Who decided to put forced single player only missions in the middle of Petorian arcs?
To be fair. How on earth do you manage to not outlevel a zone in praetoria before reaching a morality mission when grouped?
The last group I was in we had so many mobs per mission we could barely finish an arc or two without shooting right past a zone unless we turned off exp on the leader. |
I agree that there shouldn't be forced solo content. Since the main draw of MMOs for many people is being able to play with friends, forcing solo play strikes me as a player-hostile design. Assuming the tech could handle it, I would simply change the morality missions to only grant the moral choice to the mission owner, and just let everyone else come along for the ride. The only mission where that would be a bit weird (that I've done) is the Cleo vs Washington mission, and it really wouldn't be that big of a deal to bring a team into that one, since it's more of a story marker and not really a challenge.
I also agree, though, that they're relatively easy to work around, so it wouldn't be my top priority. I'm just a bit baffled that they were added in the first place. Ditto for the side-exclusive SG/VG. But maybe these are all tech limitations - for instance, they may not have the ability to grant a moral choice to the mission owner exclusively. I just don't know how that mechanic works behind the scenes.

People may throw rocks at me for saying this (and I care so very much), but the entire Contact-mission game is solo material and as such there's no harm done in writing it that way. People looking for team play should be sweeping hazard-level areas or running TFs.

It's not a tech issue. As others pointed out upthread, the problem is that not everyone in the group may agree on the choice to be made. That should lead to PvP but it can't. Dissonance ensues.

Now I could be wrong about that, and it might be the case that most people care about a consistent RP experience. I'd be very surprised, though, based on the sample of people I encounter while playing. I think it's a much bigger deal to prevent a group from playing through an entire arc than it would be to force the team to play a mission according to the owner's choices.

Arc #345863 - When The Bough Breaks
"Curse you Perry the Plata...wait, is that Love Handel?" - Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Phineas and Ferb
I can understand your opinion, but I disagree - I would always prioritize a seamless social experience over a consistent RP experience. I don't have any data, but my sense is that most players do not RP, and definitely not to the extent that they would feel the urge to engage in PvP because the mission owner made a choice they disagreed with. I'm guessing most people just want to play through the content casually with their friends.

So RP matters to the powers that be.

And to what address can I send a crate of bees to them at?
EDIT: Longer explanation. So the weekly sg that I run on Victory finished the last redside run and restarted this week; all new characters leveling up together and then going blue side when we out level the new zone. Several teams, going strong, having fun, then BAM. "Sorry, this mission is SINGLE PLAYER ONLY." What the heck, man. Drop it... And the next one from the contact is SINGLE PLAYER ONLY. Arrrrrggghhhhh. Nooooooo. Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? |
I don't know about most people but the devs certainly put in roadblocks for Praetoria regarding social vs RP. One of the biggies is no Primals in Praetoria. WarWitch's own comment on the matter was this was to preserve the immersion of Praetoria.

Again, I could be wrong about the preferences of most players, but I'd be surprised if I was.

I made a post in another thread explaining that gr was going to be mostly solo and I got shouted down.
Ahem. I told you so nyah.
Until you run it on your empath/* with pitiful damage. You cant heal your way outa this one!

Now i will admit, it does occasionally shake the flow a bit, as i tend to spend part of my coh gaming time playing with friends who are not always geographically close, and splitting that up isnt entirely cool, but I can understand the justification, and the annoyance really is negligible so long as we can still chat with each other.

So your claims are full of crap.
Not only should you have been shouted down, you should have been held down and given pink bellies, atomic wedgies, and wet willies, then finished off with a chocolate swirlie.
Neener neener neener.
was rolling with a team of 5 throughout most of Praetoria, there wasn't a shortage of missions, much less out leveling them *shrug* by the time we all hit 20.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
Yeah it couldn't possibly be that different people have different taste and therefore request multiple things, or that OPTIONS are the consistent wanted factor in either request.

The funniest thing about these complaints about the solo missions is that if they really are teaming with other people they'll be blowing past those missions and never know they had the opportunity to do them. Only the soloists are going to encounter the bulk of the few solo missions, and speaking as someone that did a lot of soloing during the beta the most I saw on any one Praetorian character was 6.
12 solo only missions out of 20 levels is no way even remotely close to being mostly solo. Especially since you can skip them.

conversely, knowing that different people have different tastes should indicate that nobody should expect the game to cater 100% to them, some people love teaming, some love soloing, soloists get hung up on tfs, teamers get hung up on solo only content. live and let live, nothing is going to be perfectly to your tastes.

ON-TOPIC: You are not required to complete the solo missions. The solo missions do not lead to the next zones' missions nor do they gate you from doing any other missions in the zone you are in. All the solo missions are the "capstone" to a particular path for that zone. So at the end of the Warden arcs in Nova you get a morality mission. However, Scott or Marchand will give you the next zone's contacts when you hit the appropriate level whether you do the morality mission or not. So I wouldn't stress these missions much if you like to team.
|
The single-player morality missions are extremely short. If you're working through an arc teams, break up for a moment, clear the morality mission, and re-group.
They also tend to be very easy, so having to do them solo isn't a hardship.
