No mention of /Elec - What's Up?

Just that. I was thinking of rolling a KM/Elec scrapper. Don't know much about it though. Brutes seem to love /Elec all up and down the line, but there doesn't seem to be any love for it (or mention of it) over here on the Scrapper side.

What's the word on having a sparkle-scrapper?

EDIT: Lemme add that I'm looking for something that will fit a concept for a PVE toon. Going with something robotic-themed, so that's sort of what I'm trying to find a secondary powerset for. I thought about /invuln but I seem to recollect someone saying that KM/ was not going to be a great synergy for it. I'll definitely consider other suggestions.

/elec is a solid and very fun scrapper secondary. It really likes recharge, and brings some to the table.

It's just a bit overshadowed by /sd and /fire for damage, and by /wp, /regen, and /inv in sheer toughness.

It's a very nice middle-of-the-road set, and is likely getting a HUGE buff today.

TODAY?!

Buff to /elec?? What buff to /elec?

Sadly, I saw no buff in the patch notes.

I have not heard of ANY changes to /elec for GR/I18. This is blasphemy as far as I'm concerned.

I think he was referring to Shadow Meld

I have a spines/elec that is a lot of fun to play. Somewhat squishy, but not too bad. I just assumed that Brutes get a bit more mileage out of resist sets, since they have a higher resist cap. That might be why it tends to be a bit more common amongst that AT.

I like elec armor more on brutes cause a brute'll hit 90% energy resistance, while a scrapper is capped at 75%. That's without outside buffs.

I have a brute that mostly just feeds on rikti.

Brutes get way more mileage out of resist sets overall thanks to their higher resistance cap. That's one of the primary reasons why you'll see so many more */elec Brutes than Scrappers. Another big reason is that Lightning Reflexes and Power Sink are a massive boon to Brutes attempting to push their Fury as high as possible (never run out of end and get your attacks back faster). Something else to consider is that while Lightning Field can't crit, it can benefit from Fury, which means that Brutes will be getting more out of it than Scrappers will. Similarly, Brutes have higher hp so that Energize gives a bigger heal to Brutes than it does to Scrappers.

All in all, elec is a nice set for Scrappers, but it's not nearly as nice for Scrappers as it is for Brutes or Tankers.

Thanks for the comments folks, I can live with a middle-of-the-road set as long as it isn't functionally unsuited for scrappers. Since Lightning Field doesn't crit and its generally an aggro field, I presume it is one of the skippable powers of the set? Any other pitfalls I should be aware of?

No skipping LF is a bad idea because it still increases your dps by more than you think take it and it is not that much of an agro magnet it is not AAO or Invincibility

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet: Lightning Field and Power Sink combine to give you mitigation through endurance drain. If things don't kill you in the first 10 seconds of a fight, they're not going to be able to kill you thereafter, because they won't have the endurance to do so.

Also, Lightning Field adds quite a bit to your damage output especially to multiple targets, and while it doesn't crit and you have no Fury to fuel it, it is boosted by any other +damage effects you may have on. Claws/Elec or DB/Elec or Dark/Elec are all good combos to leverage this benefit - KM/Elec might be too.

In my experience, /Elec is a fine set for SO to mid-budget IO builds. I've heard of people doing amazing things with /Elec and heavy IO slotting, but at that level a lot of what I've said no longer applies as IO bonuses begin to eclipse the natural benefits of the set...

Never skip your damage aura. Ironically, I like it for it's aggro-generating assistance since my Kat/Elec is tanking for a small team of 2-4. It is endurance hungry, and before you get SOs, I used it situationally to avoid running out of end. Once you get Energize, SOs, and Stamina, you won't have issues and you'll appreciate the extra damage it puts out.

I'm considering sticking an Energy Manipulator: Chance to Stun in LF to see how much it would help out mitigation. I don't have my toggles well slotted or IO bonuses stacking yet, so it might be useful. Anyone tried that IO in a damage aura previously?

I love my elec/elec scrapper version of my main. I built for s/l defense to bolster the resists, and heal. He's perfect for anything energy-related but can more than hold his own in most other situations as well. You'll also never run out of End or have End Drain affect you. You can almost see the Malta Sappers soil themselves when they shoot you and nothing happens. That alone is worth the price of admission, as they say.

Thanks for all the info, you guys rock.

I am back after almost a four-year hiatus and have about nine issues of the game to acquaint myself with before I catch up to where I was before.

I had some acquaintance with damage auras but just remembered the horrendous END drain; after reading this thread, I'll have to pull in Lightning Field for the /elec scrapper I started rather than just skipping it.

I made a BS/Ele Scrapper a while back and so far he has been a beast. He eats Carnies and Malta for lunch and he laughs at the Rikti. And of course being TP'd in the PvP zone is a non-issue.
