Market Merge Announcement

As you all know, Going Rogue is just around the corner and with it the upcoming Market Merge.

We here at Steelcla... er... Paragon Studios are always interested in making your City of Heroes experience more immersive and, following this desire, we will be instituting a new "reality initiative" in upcoming Issue releases.

As most of you know, the fictional Paragon City is located in the real-world state of Rhode Island. It has come to the attention of one of our Development team during a six hour lay-over in one of the lovely Rhode Island airports that the state has a 7% sales tax.

With the market merge all Paragon City Wentworth establishments will be charging an additional 7% to all transactions to meet this sales tax requirement. We understand that this may seem unfair to you, but please rest assured that these funds shall be allocated to the restoration of Faultline, Boomtown and other disaster areas within the Paragon borders.

As the Rogue Isles are NOT within the Rhode Island borders, and seeing that they incorporate the Black Market anyway, they shall not be affected by this change.

We assure you this is simply the first step in our Reality Initiative and NOT some hare-brained scheme to keep some people red-side once side-switching becomes available.

Thank you for your time and your continued patronage of City of Heroes.

Is this for real?

This is the stupidest thing ever. Paragon Studios, you are hurting the vast majority of your players with this slap in the face.

If you go ahead with this idea you are not getting my $15/month anymore.

(Hm... I wonder if the fact the poster 1) doesn't have a redname and 2) is Steelclaw has any bearing on the news... nah, probably not. It looks totes legit. Slap in the face!)

You think the sales tax is bad, wait until you see the new contest rules coming with i18.

In keeping with RI law any contest with a prize greater than 100 inf will be required to register in City Hall*. Don't worry though, it's a simple form to fill out. In triplicate.

Failure to follow the correct procedure means will result in fines of up to three times the prize money being imposed on the host of the contest, so remember to fill out your forms before holding that next Costume Contest!

*City Hall is not responsible for any forms lost by Azuria. If you haven't noticed that she loses everything by now it's your own fault.

I heard that in preparation for i18, all players will be required to report to Paragon Studios in person to have their faces slapped.* Having teeth kicked will be optional.

This face-slapping is a slap in the face.

* (Note for the humor-impaired: No, not really. Think of this footnote as a slap in the face.)

Options:

1. You are now paying more for the item. This makes its purchase a greater burden on your finances and thus more valuable to you. Hence, value added.

2. Purchasing this item adds more trackable, saleable things (as opposed to that "money" stuff) to you and your household, opening up doors for new fees and taxes, thus making *you* more valuable to the government's tax collectors. The value is added to you. (And my advice to those who die, declare the pennies on your eyes...)

Awesome!

No, seriously. It means I can now steal stuff and recouperate any losses during theft nearly instantly, rather than having to sell in bulk.
It's all good!

I'm not sure of the numbers, but it's pretty high.. But then you all get free University. Those taxes have to go somewhere.

IN Ontario Canada, it's 13%.

The tax doesn't add value, it's a tax that's assessed on the value added by the business process.

Just like income tax doesn't create income for you.

Duh.
