How many people believe this?

Agreed. The likelihood of this suddenly allowing players to acquire all the purples and PvP IO's they want without serious investment of time & effort, is about as likely as the devs adding a magic flying pony that craps out rare recipes and gumdrops as it cavorts about the various zones.

I don't think you do.

Price. Caps. Always. Cause. Shortages. Period.

If a particular commodity is made available for less than the price that the Law of Supply and Demand says should be the price, then shortages will occur.

Why?

Because if I get a purple drop and I know I can sell it to another player off the market for 200 million but - thanks to you - I can only sell it on the market for 100 million, then I am NOT gonna put it on the market.

I mean, seriously, why would I throw away 100 mill?

Since most players feel the same way, then - boom - instant purple shortage.

It might cause a reduction of purples sold on the market if it causes enough of a shift in how people play. From the sound of things, you can probably still get purples while working towards Alignment Merits, so unless it drains away farmers it isn't clear to me how it would reduce production.

That is, of course, unless it comes bundled with either a drop rate change in purples or some other indirect game-mechanical impact to the aggregate rate of supply we have to day.

Reward Merits outright replaced the mechanism that preceded them of a drop after every TF or trial, no matter how short. That was definitely a direct reduction in the production rate of recipes. It's not clear that this new purple store is really an analog for that change. We don't know all the details, so it might be, but it doesn't particularly look like one so far.

that's a good point. Pool C's are only generated by merits, presumably 50's working on NCotB* will still be getting purple drops in the normal course of play.

There is a single exception:

If the price cap is far above the market price, it simply has no effect.

Otherwise it causes a shortage.

Is this correct? I thought they still dropped from bosses et cetera.

Whoops you're right- they did add that slight chance to drop off bosses.

But as that isn't efficiently farm-able I don't think it adds appreciably to the overall supply.

Fair enough, the reason I wasn't certain was because I am pretty sure I have never gotten one from a boss I can't imagine it making that much difference to the supply at all, like you say.

A couple of people have posted screens of the blessed event so I know it actually happens. =D

Very, very qualitatively, I would put the odds of getting a pool C off a boss at around the odds of getting a purple off of a boss, except you can only get a pool C off of a boss. I've gotten a boss pool C maybe two times since they added it, but even including other people's reports of it probably heard of it happening less than 20 times since they added it. It's pretty rare, so I too am betting regular merit production is swamping it.

I actually had a LotG+ and another decent pool C recipe - forget what, drop from, I guess bosses, in missions in the space of 2 weeks. They were both so close to the end of the mission, I thought they were very rare chances to drop from end of mission. Apparently I need to include bosses in my solo settings.

I think I've had... four or five pool C drops off bosses. One was a Freebird stealth, one was a TP stealth, two were Sting of the Manticore, and one was an Executioner's Contract proc (one of the Mantis and one of the EC pieces dropped on the same ITF, to add insult to injury).
