Point of game?

I did read about so called Task Forces, but was unable to find player in game willing to team with me.

What does CoH offer aside of soloing some random missions and "protect the Bank" every 3 missions?

Are there any active Guilds (Supergroups)?
Are there any PvE contend worth raiding? Are there actual raids?
Or is this game just about dressing your avatar fancy, which would explain the boosterpacks I saw in the store.

Sorry, no insult meant. Just wondering what keeps people play this game.

1) yes
2) yes
3) No to most but to some yes

www.paragonwiki.com

but it sounds like your trollin anyways so im not gonna go into it to deep.

Clearly your new and perhaps your server is stinky, try freedom or virtue i think.

Maybe you should try the content on those servers to get a feel for the game and you will learn about the game that way it takes time but youll get on teams for sure on those servers and you wont get bored doing PB radio missons.

try some pvp also mix it up.

theres a lot going on now with the new game coming out so try it for a while raids are announced on certain channels which you should look up.

What makes this game the most fun IMO is the community itself. It has the greatest community of any game I have played. There are people in this game that I have known now for over five years. We have become friends. We enjoy playing together and having fun talking and sharing.

Apparently you are only doing the radio missions. There are contact that have mission that are entire storylines some of which are very interesting and very fun.

There are more active SG's than I think I could count on any given server.

PvE content raids that are worth raiding.. SURE there is the Hamidon raid and the Rikti Mothership raid. Both fun events where you can meet tons of new people.

What you get out of the game is up to you. I like getting new powers and experience and taking my characters to different levels. I try different powers combinations to see what I can come up with. I constantly look over and tweak all my characters mainly because I enjoy building and tinkering.

I suggest that you try and find the better global channels for the server you are on so that you can find out what is happening and who is doing what.

And above all HAVE FUN !!!

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Task Forces (TFs), Strike Forces (SFs) and Trials are the primary team-focused content. TFs, SFs and Trials replace raids in CoH. That's how the game's designed. Instead of doing raids, players do TFs. We do have two raids, the Hamidon and Mothership raids. Technically three, since there are two different versions of Hamidon (for Heroes and Villains). The actual Hamidon boss is the same, but the map is different.

In comparison, there are 19 Task Forces, 9 Strike Forces, 2 co-op TF/SFs, 6 Hero Trials, and 3 Villain Trials. Think about those numbers for a moment. See the comparison? The focus isn't on raid stuff. It's on TFs instead. That said, the upcoming Issue 18 will re-introduce the Cathedral of Pain Trial...which is essentially a raid-sized Trial, since it's balanced around 24 players, or three full teams.

Now, on the high-population US servers like Freedom and Virtue, it's relatively easy to find random pick-up teams to do the TF and Trial content. Given that your location is listed as Germany, though, I take it you're playing on a European server, possibly the German-language one. The population on the European servers is much lower.

This means that to do the team content, you pretty much need to have a supergroup. But this shouldn't be a surprise. I mean, if you're raiding in any other MMO, you pretty much need a guild. There are tons and tons of active supergroups on the US servers, but I really can't speak for the European ones.

Now. So far I've been talking about team content. How about the stuff you can solo? Many players run endless repeatable 'generic' missions (Newspaper or Radio). But that's because this is the FASTEST WAY TO LEVEL UP. And those players are just trying to get XP fast. So they don't care about playing the content.

The actual content of the game is in the story arcs. These feature unique dialogue, scripted events, cutscenes, and so on. Hell, the newer story arcs essentially have the same production quality as the TFs, SFs and Trials. Story arc stuff is balanced so it can be solo'd, but obviously there's nothing stopping people from teaming up for them.

Finally, there's the Mission Architect (MA). This is the player-created content system. Now, obviously since it's user-created missions, most of them suck. But there's a lot that don't, and the developers award 'dev's choice' to the really good ones that stand out.

But eh, whatever. In all seriousness, this is a casual-friendly game. It's not for everyone. If you're not having fun, then it's probably wiser to take your money and spend it elsewhere. Yeah, a lot of us like this game. But plenty of people don't. And that's cool.

I think, however, that he may be on the EU servers

If so, no idea off hand which of the 4 servers to recommend to him, although I'm vaguely aware that the two English servers are more populated than the other two.

To the OP; scroll down to the servers board, and and look in any of the sub boards labeled with an "(eu)" (Note; only if you are on the European servers, I'm assuming here. If not on the EU servers, any of the other severs will do.) And ask around about global channels and active super groups. Those are the two methods that yield the best results in finding teams for just about anything.

On a side note: Another way to find players is by joining a channel such as "Justice United" (shameful plug) which is on justice server, or asking on the forum for the names of other channels on the server you pick to go to...

The good channels like "Justice United" (another shameful plug?) are always broadcasting tf's, trials, raids and so on, plus there are really cool people on channels like Justice United (shame fest 2010) that will be happy to answer your questions about city of heroes

Of course this means you would have to switch from eu server to a na server and I'm not really sure you can do that based where you are from, not sure how that works...

As a German player, he may well be on Zukunft. If he's struggling to find teams, though, he may well find better luck on Union or Defiant, the two English language servers (I'd suggest Union, since that's widely considered to have the higher server pop), and his language skills certainly seem more than enough to remove that as a barrier.

You are right, I am on Zukunft.
Should have mentioned that, sorry.

Think you might be right with the server. I see usually between 3 and 20 chars across all levels logged on there. I am going to purchase a server transfer and try Union.

Thank you very much for the suggestion.

I'd recommend just rolling an alt on Union (at least at first), since that's completely free. Also, definitely join some Global Channels on your server (checking in the server-specific board is a good way to find them), those are an EXCELLENT way to find teams for TFs/SFs/raids/any random content, as well as just being entertaining.

CoX has a lot to offer, and is going to have a good bit more (especially end game!) come Going Rogue.

You might think about making an alt there rather than getting a character transfer. Especially if your character isn't all that high level yet - when you team up regularly you level much, much, MUCH faster.

Agreed with everyone about just rolling a new character on another server, especially if your first one is fairly low in level.

For chat channels, I'd recommend sal's badgehunters and Union Chat to start with.

If you plan on sticking around the forums much, there's something you should know.

Disregard anything that graystar_blaster says.

Also, you really should make an alt on union before transferring. You could end up transferring then deciding that it's not good or something, then you'll have wasted $10 for nothing. (Or however many Euro's it is.)

Welcome. And if you want to try TFs/SFs/raids on Union, join chat channel "sals badgehunters". Despite its name it's not just for dedicated badgers, and is pretty much Union's "Teams looking for players" channel.

I'm sorry you had a poor introduction to the game.

Types of content:

1) Missions from contacts. This is where the "content" is- and it's in the mission text. You may not care WHY you have to beat up 10 trolls, or recover the elbow-guard of Hecuba, or whatever, but the text your contact gives you will explain what you're doing and why. Story arcs usually start around level 10 and tend to explain things about the world as you go- the story of Dr. Vazhilok, for instance, or what the Tsoo are planning, or whatever.

2) TF's and such: You can't add players to a Task Force once it starts, and people generally run them in one marathon session. These sessions are not as long as they used to be, because the players have gotten faster and because there are more ways to move around the cities now. (I remember one ugly Manticore TF that took NINE HOURS. Although part of that was a power outage on our end and part of that was that Infinity went down for an hour in there. Anyway, these days it goes by in a couple of hours. )

3) Newspaper or Radio missions. Originally these were added because people were running out of contacts. Then people started doing them because they were easy and fast and your team didn't have to run through three zones to do something that only the team leader cared about. Now they're like junk food.

4) Architect Entertainment [type 1]- these are missions made up by your fellow players, for people who have done all the missions repeatedly and know the stories by heart and want something new. They can be VERY deadly and full of unexpected annoyances. They can also be full of stupid stories, typos, ugly custom NPCs and "how my player got started" pointless crud.

5) Architect Entertainment [type 2]- Farms. Missions custom-designed to be as easy as possible, with as little going on as possible, and give much reward as possible. Human nature being what it is, 90%+ of the people in AE are running farms. People also run farms by repeating various missions in the "real world" but it's not quite as common.

6) Ouroboros- you can "go back in time" to do missions and contacts you missed. You get put down to a lower level and get to run story arcs all over again, do badge missions, etc.

7) Street Sweeping, Giant Monsters, Zone Events, Etc: Sometimes you just want to walk down the street hitting people. That's street sweeping. Sometimes you want to get together with a bunch of people and stop a mad robot or rampaging monster. We have Giant Monsters for your amusement. And sometimes aliens invade, or the dead rise, and you're not just going to let them stomp your planet. Are you?

I'm undoubtedly leaving things out. . . but the game is more than dress-up. (my wife has a character named Cuisinart Barbie. Even the dual blades are pink!)

Edited to mention: Smash Zone is right. You can add people to your ignore list on the forums by going to the "User CP" button at the top (I don't know if the forums autotranslate to German, it may say something else to you.)

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

There are two big raids:

Hamidon, which can take between 10-40 people to complete and gives a Hamidon multi-purpose enhancement, kinda split Single Origin, which are still used despite IOs being very popular. This is a 45-50 event in The Hive heroside or the Abyss redside.

The Mothership Raids in the Rikti War Zone allow you to accumulate Vanguard Merits, influence/prestige and debt in that order. You're probably better off doing these at level cap or at least in your mid-40s since you'll be attacked by level 54 Rikti during the saucer assault.

A lot of the team grouping comes from task forces and channels and supergroup teams. Not sure which of the EU servers is most populated, but that might be a place to start and look for a team.

While most of the content of the game is point, shoot, repeat...it's the variety of ways you can fry enemies that keeps people coming back, the mostly casual nature of the game and the many shiny costumes.

Hope you stick around to enjoy the game.

It's also possible that the game...just isn't for you. I've been playing for more than six years straight--no breaks. To each their own. Hopefully, some of the good advice in this thread will help you enjoy your stay.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. Edited to add this about TFs - You can get on many by standing next to the contact, at least on a busy server. That's how i do Posi so much. And man, if you can just say, "They'll come to us." at certain times during a TF, you can prevent a team wipe. Oh, and the badguys in the lobby of city hall, they'll come to you outside.

All answers are yes though I have to say:

3) Hell yes. But the best stuff to strut is the ITF Roman gear [best armord chest detail in the game. Makes Samauri [18 month vet reward] look like the sack it is.] And the Vanguard Face Stuff = teh badassness.

My favorite toon which recently hit 50 is collecting everything in the game. While many badges are kinda lame in my opinion, having them lets other high level vets know that I'm a person who tries.

But, to reprase answers to your questions.

1) Some active SGs but I prefer global channels.
2) Most PvE that rocks is not a raid. Run ITF. And I'm one of the people fond of the new Posi [at least part 1, I hate that damn dam.]
3) Everyone likes playing with their dolls. That's all The Sims is.

I'm still playing this game after 3 years for various reasons.

The community is great first off. I picked Justice at random and I'm glad I did. Some of the people are odd but thats ok. Helps me to fit it.

I enjoy at the end of the day getting home, logging in, saying hi and checking my marketeers.

I'll wonder into my base build a kitchen and run off to a costume contest. I have a losing streak of a lot now.

Occasionally I will stop a mugging in ATlas on my 50 then whine to whomever might listen that I should get 1 prestige for this no matter what level I am.

Chasing badges seems to take up a certain amount of my time now. Find that tough to believe considering for the first year and a half I saw absolutely no point in doing it.

I have a couple of arcs I'm playing with and a pair of published ones I am tweaking.

Sometimes I like to sly around in the SHard and look at how beautiful it really is. Too bad it is so empty. The Ritki War Zone I discovered quite recently has some nice scenery as well. Kind of hidden but it is there.

I'm also scouting out some spots for my next Costume Contest. Think I will have it in Perez but not quite sure. Maybe the AE in Galaxy. I would imagine thats pretty empty and lag free.

Did I miss stuff?

Oh for sure I did.

I guess I still play this game because I love it.

Bashful Banshee...

Enjoy your day please.
