Which booster pack do you like best?
Magic has the best costumes, followed by cyborg. The best powers are ninja run (convenience) and secondary mutation (power). Sci has the least of the costumes (about half of them are masks so they are mutually exclusive, and the rest don't accept patterns), and no true power, but a feature (sci needs more IMO).
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
I would have like the science pack costumes better if all the lab coats weren't huge and puffy like arctic wear.
Magic
Thats a hard call for me because I tend to use so many of the different costumes to mix and match and I get different uses out of all of them.
Cyborg Booster: I use the costume parts (arms , shoulders and legs particularly) quite often, I also like the ACCAHUD a lot. Occasionally use Self Destruct as a pseudo travel power or Get Out of Dept free power. Emotes, rarely
Science Booster: I use the Rubber boots a lot (they are quite versitle) as well as the various face masks and breathers. I like being able to change the body shape of my toons and have used it on occasion. Emotes occasionally, Cossie change emotes regularly
Magic Booster: I use the cape A LOT along with the Skull Mask and Wizard beard. I also use the baron jacket a fair bit. I use mystic fortune quite often. Emotes occasionally, Cossie change emotes a lot (lightning is one of my fav ones)
Martial Arts Booster: The costumes I use rarely, they are very good but not as versitile as the others although the helmet pieces are my fav. Ninja Run is a brilliant power however and has led me to skipping travel powers on a couple of toons. The emotes and cossie change emotes are rarely used
Mutant Booster: I love the costume pieces and made some fun cossies out of them last night but time will tell about their versitility. Have had some good use out of secondary mutation (haven't been turned into a monkey yet!). Emotes, haven't tried and Dimensional shift is my FAV cossie change emote!
Which one gave me Pocket-D teleport?
That convenience power, Sinister Boots, Ninja Run combined with the three pronged Jump Pack, and Door TP are what makes the packs for me.
Martial Arts also has that good V shaped robe. Whether the Mutant Crown stands the test of time for me has yet to be seen.
Pocket-D is where I level and do my costumes. Short of using Oro to get to Talos [for WW, SG, a train, and very handy Day Job stuff near each other], it's my most useful instant travel power.
I have yet to get the SG transporter on any of my main toons. Just those I park around.
Magic for the costumes and the power. Ninja for the gloves/boots and Ninja run which is a nice little travel power. I probably use items from the Val pack the most.
I need to refresh my memory on what comes with what, and not just the booster packs.
I think the Mission TP comes with the Mac (Valkyrie) pack, which is not technically a booster, but I find that power very useful. Someone mentioned the Pocket D TP, which is from the GvE edition, I believe... Again, not a booster.
Test Subject 42 - lvl 50 Sp/DA Scrapper
Oku No Te - lvl 50 MA/SR Scrapper
Borg Master - lvl 24 Bots/traps MM
Pinnacle
Nyghtfyre - lvl 50 DM/SR Scrapper
Champion
Ninja for me, since I use the run constantly, and the costume pieces fairly regularly.
Science probably second. The thing has more goggles than a WoW gnome, though I find less use in the other costume parts. The special tailor is great too.
Magic booster I have a love-hate relationship with. Love many of the costume parts (my top blaster wears a zoot suit from the parts), hate the tarot cards. Its not that they exist that is the problem, its that I'm expected by too many teams to take them or give them. Part of my (very limited) RP styling is that I make nearly all my characters technological origin or natural origin. Very few mutant or science and never magic. I prefer never using the cards and just pretending they're not there. Unfortunately, I seem to keep finding pugs that insist everyone exchange cards before going into a mission. I'd turn down the cards too, but that just wastes the teammate's effort and ticks them off. Would have preferred having a swappable alternative, like a technological "card" boost.
Despite being a dominantly tech-origin player, I probably use the cyborg pack the least.
I've currently no interest in the mutant booster. Its a first.
ninja run
I just wish I could have the animations w/o the ninja run power being on
Technically, I use the Magic Pack most often, because I cast Mystic Fortune every 20 minutes when I'm on a team.
Thematically, I'm not sure which pieces or emotes/cce's I use the most...almost all of my characters use more stuff from the base game costumes/emotes/cce's than anything else. I rank the Mutant Pack last, as other than Energy Morph, Dimension Shift, and Secondary Mutation, I have pretty much no interest in the pack.

I only have the Martial Arts pack. I love it but I see nothing from the other packs that are of interest to me. I'm not too enticed by the new one either. Secondary mutation sounds cool, but the risk of turning into a Rikti monkey is one I'm not willing to take.

Let me rank them in order
1) Mutant -- The organic armor looks great. It has a self-buff like the magic cards. At the moment its at the top because of that alone. But honestly 1-3 here are all good.
2) Natural -- I use alot of the ninja robes to complement other stuff and make fancy dresses and stuff. Ninja Run rocks and allows most of my toons to skip a travel power until well along in their development which helps me see what new sets I like or dislike by like 20th level.
3) Magic -- I use alot of the costume stuff from this. In fact almost every toon has something from it. Don't think I don't love this pack....there is a huge gap from it to #4 in my liking. The magic cards are kind of a pain with the need to accept and all, plus its a buff other thing so less good than the mutant one.
4) Tech -- I don't make many tech-oriented toons, though its been useful from time to time. The self-destuct isn't terribly useful but is a good get-out-of-dodge type power which might actually kill something.
5) Science -- its nice but no power and I'm not dying to have mad scientist hair or whatever on most toons. The changing scales is cool though for having a huge hero-scaled toon and a normal human-sized civilian form.
If Valkryie pack was in there it'd be between 3 and 4 because of the door TPer and costume usage. If the Pocket D TPer was in there it'd be between Valk pack and Tech.
Best powers for me in order:
Ninja Run (ninja)- a 'natural' travel power...even though the hunched pose is odd, just running fast/jumping high is great for character that couldn't leap over sky scrapers, aford jetboots or have the power to fly, possess spells/tech to teleport, and cannot run superfast.
Mission transporter (mac)
This is excellent. On a team, but I want to switch characters? They don't have to wait up at all. one minute to switch, and one short load later, I'm right there in the mission. Have to go two zones over to a locale a mile out in the biggest zone? TP! Want to make it to rome in one load? Call the general, set his mission, and one teleport later I'm in Cimerora!
Pocket D (GvE)
THE easiest tailor to get to. Trina may have zero style, but when she's one click away, I have no problems with her. Also handy for getting to odd zones.
Mystic Fortune (magic)
A good buff for a team member: you won't live or die on it, but a handy thing nonetheless.
Science gender/model change:
Handy on a few 'transforming' characters, or when a concept needs drastic rethinking, but only used rarely.
Self destruct: (cyborg)
Handy for getting a death teleport without any hassle. Good for logging of there for the day job. Not worth it as an attack.
Unknown placement:secondary mutation (Mutant)
I haven't had this long enough to see how it sizes up to the other powers.
For costumes, my best to worst:
Magic
capes at level 1? Yes, please. (especially ones that look like cloaks.) That and the jackets are great. Not a fan of the witch parts, though.
Wedding
The bridal/formal looks are handy for fancy characters. Combines very well with the magic pack.
Cyborg
Excellent tech/armor abilities
Mac (Valkyrie)
The armor is good, combines well with roman/cyborg parts.
Mutant
Good for plant/mutant/crystal looks. I love how plant parts look with organic more than I expected. The organic headpiece is excellent, the shoulders as well. Not a huge fan of the overall body textures/boots, though.
Science
The masks/goggles are good, combine well for full face covers and custom 'masks.' The coats are hard to use, but do work well in the times they get used. (Though their coloration has a wierd too bring/too dark interaction with other sets. They can be made to work, but it's tricky.)
Good vs. Evil
The heroic gloves/boots are great, with their arm guards and kneepads. Same with the heroic shoulder pieces. The body textures and sinister options are a bit hard to use well.
Ninja
The gloves/shoulders are nice, as are the masks/hats. Not crazy about the robes, but to each their own.
Re: What is and is not a booster
If I can buy it for $10 in the shop, it's a booster for me, as I only had the bootleg edition and upgraded it ages ago. When I reinstall, I just download the client from NC.
Nitra asks two different questions: Out of all 5 which do you believe is a must have? |
The one I liked the best was Science, but only because I had a handful of characters I'd been desperately wanting to change the heights on for a couple of years. Plus I was itching to make a Girl Genius homage, but when push came to shove, I ended up using more parts from the Magic Pack than the Science one.

Interesting answers... I would have thought the new one, which gives a self buff would be more popular... I guess time will tell
side note: I would love to be able to have Ninja Run work without the animation
while it is cool, it's very sisnter looking great look for villains!
It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...
I think Ninja Run is the best power. However, I am glad I play with the sound down because the "woosh" sound it makes every time you move is VERY annoying...

"My inner mind has become a reality-cracking overgod. He torments me! Help!"
Out of all 5 which do you believe is a must have?
For me this was hard, because they all have something good, but I'd have to go with
the Ninja Booster pack, because of Ninja Run and the costumes are pretty good as well...
What do you guys think?
