You're proposing that the AT worst equipped for melee get sets that force it to be there? The only thing squishier than a defender in melee is a petless MM.

Eh, depends a lot on the primary. I have Defenders (note the plural) that can safely jump into melee range against spawns that are more dangerous than anything some of my Scrappers can handle.


Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Well that's not true. Corrupters logically would be squishier as their debuffs are weaker.


So for Defenders I'd like to see Earth Assault, Fire Assault and Thorn Assault proliferated to them from the Domi sets. All of the others have Blasty alternatives so I'd leave off proliferating them for a bit.

I'd like to see Energy Aura for scrappers, but since I think it's unlikely to be given to them unless they get Energy Melee, too, and I think it's unlikely that scrappers will get Energy Melee, I'm not expecting Energy Aura any time soon.

Because then they wouldn't be Defenders, which are a Debuff/Buff Primary and a RANGED Secondary.

Not necessarily. Is there really any point to making a new AT just for melee? While I support such a suggestion, ATs might be more streamlined if such an expansion was simply done through existing ATs. It's essentially the same role. Defenders and corrs are similar enough. Do we need 6 different versions of them?

Would you rather have a billion ATs, or just more options with existing ATs? Add dominator assault sets and the combinations get extreme.


A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

I would say blaster would be squishier then defenders, after all they don't have near as many buffs/debuffs to keep themselves alive. So I can see defenders getting melee after blasters get melee.

There are also several defender powers that are effective closer to the people in the middle of combat, maybe not FF, but traps and some other sets do play well up close.

Blasters do get Melee powers in their secondary. In fact Energy Manipulation has a full Attack Chain. This is one of the reasons I mentioned that Defender melee DMG mod would need to be increased. Currently it is 0.55 (not 100% positive) which is VERY LOW. It would need to be somewhere between this and Tanker numbers (.65 to .75 IMO).

Also, I have yet to play a defender that cannot function in melee range. It takes a particular mind-set and tactics, but can be done. Also, lets not confuse surviving in melee range for dominating in melee range. I really like the Idea of the Assault sets being proliferated to Defenders/Corruptors, but for Defenders to get straight-up melee sets, It would make alot more sense to add a new AT with an inherent that lets them survive melee range better.

While it would probably never happen, some of the Control sets might not be a bad idea for Masterminds. They seem to handle the Buff/Debuff sets well enough.

There are plenty of Defender powers already that force you into Melee range.

Most of Kinetics does.
Electrical Blast and Rad Blast have PBAoE's.
Traps works best when you get in there to lay Poison Gas Traps and Acid Mortars close up.
Hurricane requires melee range.

I would really love to see some Assault sets ported to Defenders and Corrupters.

Fire blast for defenders?
I'm a bit leery of giving fire blast to defenders on the basis that the higher debuff values don't offer anything for fire blast, since the secondary effect is simply more damage.

Having said that, fire blast is simply one step further on from assault rifle, since that is more damage-focused than any other set that defenders had until assault rifle was proliferated to them.

*shrug*

I can see a defender with fire blast. If my brain serves me correctly, rain of fire will deal the same damage as it does for blasters and corruptors since it's a summoned pet.

Ice melee for scrappers?
I'm not so sure that ice melee would be a good fit for scrappers since scrappers mainly flip out and kill stuff and ice melee has more of a careful, controllery feel to it.
I know, it's not the most technical of reasons but it's the main one I have.

On the other hand, they both have the same number of powers that don't deal damage. (Touch of Fear, Ice Patch and Confront/Taunt) Ice Melee has fairly reasonable damage and a solid aoe power in Frozen Aura. I don't actually see any reason why scrappers couldn't get Ice Melee after it's been ran through a balancing process to ensure it's not too weak/endurance expensive/strong/etc.

Now for the best part...

Ice melee for stalkers?
Yes, please.
The 'careful, controllery feel' that ice melee has that made me uncomfortable with it on a scrapper is perfect for a stalker.

After balancing the damages/endurance costs/recharge/etc for stalkers, they'd simply swap Ice Patch and Freezing Touch around in the order of powers and then replace Taunt and Freezing Touch with Assassin's Chill and Placate and there you have it!
(It'd be too much to hope for that they'd let us have Frozen Aura, Freezing Touch AND Ice Patch for our stalkers.)

That smiley was to point out the sarcasm. As far as new AT I always wanted a hero MM, where they get a combo defense/support pet primary and a melee/debuff secondary.

Thermal for Defenders

Most all the prior suggestions I'd welcome too, but these are the two I REALLY want to see happen.

Why would this be an issue?

Castle and team have tweaked the numbers of all the other proliferated sets and in some cases replaced whole powers to make it work in relation to the ATs that were getting them.

This may be the reason that Regen being proliferated to Tanks and Brutes are at the end of the to do list. I see no reason why this would preclude those ATs from getting Regen.


My personal preferences for the next round of proliferation are

Blaster - Dark Blast
Controller - Dark Miasma
Defender - Thermal/Fire Blast
Tank - Broad Sword/EA
Scrapper - Super Strength/Ninjitsu

Dominator - Illusion
Corruptor - Psy Blast/FF
Brute - Broad Sword/Ninjitsu

Lets see... proliferation I would like to see...

Blasters: Dark Blast and a Dark Manipulation set
Controllers: Traps
Defenders: Thermal Radiation & Fire Blast
Scrappers: Battle Axe & War Mace, Energy Aura
Tankers: Broad Sword, & Energy Aura

Brutes: Ice Melee & Ice Armor
Corruptors: Psychic Blast (Defender version!) and maybe... Poison?
Dominators: As I don't think Illusions will work for the Dominator AT... a Dark Assault set?
Masterminds: I guess either Sonic Resonance or Cold Domination.
Stalkers: Ice Melee & Ice Armor

I admit, though, that the main reason I want Energy Aura proliferated... is so the Devs will be forced to fix it. ^^;
