Funny that could happen with those annoying prompts that tell you when you're about to bid a significant amount of inf. I guess there just isn't a way to make a system fool proof.
But it doesn't actually warn you when bidding does it? Only when you're posting items I think.

You might feel an amused sense of triumph when you win an accidental overbid, but there is a person on the other end of that anonymous transaction thta is probably very unhappy right now, and there is zero recourse for these errors. You can't reason with the seller, and CS won't help either. It's an easy mistake to make - I've done it myself in the past.
Not everyone is swimming in inf, BTW. Farming might be "easy" and rather commonplace, but it isn't something everyone wants to spend their play time doing. Just another perspective to keep in mind.

I don't know of anything. So I just celebrate.
I don't have time to be sad for someone else's loss of play money.

Is 800 million a lot now or does everyone have that much? I haven't been keeping up with inflation I guess...
Where does one start with a post like this? The assumption that farming is the way to wealth? The assumption that "you" (presumably us, the ebil marketers) are glorying over People Like Eloora? The assumption, for that matter, that "you" have never made that mistake? I've been on both ends of the misbid. It's not that big a deal.

If you are trying to imply that the person in this case who accidentally bid 800 million instead of (presumably) 80 million was not swimming in inf... well I'm not sure I agree with you there. 800 million is a lot to me and this person had it available on that single toon when that bid was placed...

800 million just might suddenly seem like a lot more if you just lost 799,200,000 of it to an input error. |

Alas, it is a little difficult for an insomniac. My deepest apologies. Internet snark seems easy enough, though.
It's still a head hanger for the guy that mis-bid.
It is unfortunate that this would happen to you of all people.

I consider 80 million to be a lot, in that I've never had that much Influence on one character all at once. I was looking at IOs today and coming to the conclusion that planning to IO Set out a character isn't currently feasible for me since most, if not all of the sets I'd want to use either lack in the availability department or else cost more influence than all of my characters combined currently have.

I'm making well over 10 mil a night just selling salvage and crafting IO recipe drops that look promising. I sell the recipes for generic IO and crappy sets at the vendor.
If this pointless thread wasn't created with the intention of bragging about the acquisition of a small fortune the OP didn't really earn, then perhaps I missed some loftier message. And yeah, I'm sure a lot of us have been on the wrong end of a misbid, but to say "it's not that big a deal" is a pretty bold, hm, what's the word I'm looking for? Oh, right, assumption.
I would consider 800 mil to be "a lot", personally. I'm sure some do not. But I can't really say whether it is or isn't a lot to the person that has just lost it. Maybe they have a few 2 bil emails sitting around. Maybe 800 mil was literally all they had. All I'm saying is there's another side to every story, and 800 million just might suddenly seem like a lot more if you just lost 799,200,000 of it to an input error. |
I've done misbids, but not of this scale. That's because I like to spend 5 seconds checking I have the right number of zeroes in my bid. Don't do that and mess up? Not my problem.

You can do a build that will blow SO's out of the water for under 10 million. You can do a noticeably better build than that for 20-30 million.
You can get over 30% recovery bonus cheap (in that 20-30 million range). You can get 200% regen in the same range. Global accuracy isn't too pricey either.
Global recharge or defense bonuses would be far more expensive.

The Recovery is something I achieved (or nearly so) by necessity on my Toggle Man inspired build, but on most other characters I have isn't something that I would find particularly useful. I did that about a year ago, I believe, and the availability of recipes in general seems to have gone down a great deal since then.
Regen might be something to aim for on some characters. Perhaps my Defense-based characters who I'll likely not be able to softcap.

I could try going for merits, but in my experience merit rewards are far too meager for the time and effort involved.

And I find the crafting system to be dull, so I would only be crafting recipes that I'd be personally using. |
I'd be startled if Frankenslotting wasn't worth the tedium for you... but maybe it isn't.
Edited to clarify: I'm willing to put in 5 minutes of work to make 5 million inf. That's a decision you seem to be making the other way. I find that ... surprising, but as long as you're consistent in your beliefs I don't have a problem with that. You seem to be consistent in your beliefs- that is, you've accepted that you aren't going to get the shinies since you don't want to do the irritating things, and you're OK with that. Go you.

and it looks like someone added an extra zero to their bid!
Edit: The extra zero's keep coming as I just claimed another BoTZ sale for 250 million from a couple days ago!
