Meh. I generally don't care how people perceive me, or if they somehow take offense to things I never intended to be offensive.

Thats like wearing a Nazi uniform because your a military uniform enthusiast, then claiming to be puzzled when you walk into a Holocaust survivors re-union and everyones offended.

Odd analogy, I admit, but its the clearest one I could thing of in my current state.

...

I so didn't see that one coming.

If you'd do something like that on purpose, then you're an ***.
If I'd just happen to pass by the re-union in that uniform and people would take offense to it, I'd just shrug and keep walking.

What you said doesn't offend me. It pisses me off. I was pretty pissed off when I saw what I was getting and what I was NOT getting in that pack, so believe me when I say that the last thing I need is someone gloating about it. You may not have intended it like that, but you walked into a thread where you should have known angry people would congregate and proceeded to smile at their misfortune. Can you not see how that would have made us even more angry, and specifically at you? Really?

I'm sorry. Tolerance, understanding and equality is one thing. Anger is a completely different thing.

*edit*
While I suddenly don't condone or excuse football violence, imagine the following: A team just lost, and you walk into a pub full of fans of the team fuming at the defeat, then loudly proclaim "Gorhs, I sure am glad those guys lost!" Just picture this and tell me what you'd expect to transpire.

The difference being that you'd be an idiot to walk into a supporters pub from an opposing team and start riling things up intentionally. If it was just a regular pub visited by supporters from various clubs than you should be able to freely voice your opinion and be happy that your team won at the expense of the opposition without getten beaten up. That's how things work around here anyway.
Here we are in a discussions forum where everyone can voice their opinion. I just saw everyone and their mother complaining about no animal heads, and I'd just thought to let it be known that there are also people who don't give a crap about animal heads and are infact very happy with the things in this pack.

This is the comment that started all this.

Being happy with things in the pack = Being happy others didn't get what they wanted.

You might not experience it that way, but it's the same thing, you can't have one without the other.

Ideally, so it should be, but human nature being what it is, that's not always how it plays out. I can't speak for other people, but as for myself, I was pissed off. Big time. I tried not to make a big deal out of it because I realise it was my own fault for building up false expectations, but I was still pissed off. And much as I try to keep a level head and stick to the moral high ground, I was still pissed off. I'm not sure if other people were as angry as I was, though I imagine at least a couple were.

Point is, what you did was a provocation. In an ideal world, we'd be able to laugh it off and all live happily ever after, but the world of angry people is often rather a very imperfect one. We get angry at things that, logically, we should be tolerant towards, but that's just how it goes.

You also have to be aware of the other side of the matter. There are several people around here, and I've started taking names, who've made it a point to act like intolerant bigots, and have gone out of their ways to insult and belittle people for so much as mentioning animal parts. I would like to punch these people. I make no qualms about that.

So please understand that when I met the (self-inflicted) disappointment from the Mutant pack AND had to suffer the fool of belligerent jackasses adding insult to injury, that your comment, benign as it is upon reflection, really did rub me the wrong way. I don't want to be ugly here and pester you with this, and I do apologise for making a big deal out of it, but try to understand why I and several other people might be "pretty upset."

I would have liked to use some animal heads for some AE characters. But Cest la vie or whatever.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, by CoH's origin definitions, wouldn't be mutants. They were four normal, non-ninja, unmutated baby turtles that got flushed down a toilet and then doused in a strange glowing chemical that a big bad evil corporation flushed down the toilet as well. Science origin, not mutant, by CoH's very loose definitions.

For that matter, most of the "animal-human hybrids" you see in media wouldn't really fit in a 'mutant' pack either. They are also largely science experiments, science experiments gone awry, magical mishaps, etc.

For example:
Beast: Mutant
The Lizard: Science
Wolfsbane: Natural (not a mutant anymore, she, Wolverine, and Sabretooth got retconned into genuine wolf/human hybrid people. Yeah, I think it's dumb too.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Science
Monkey Fist & Gill (from Kim Possible): Science
Hybrids from the Isle of Dr. Moreau: Science
Street Sharks: Science
Thundercats: Natural (they're aliens)
Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew: Natural
Battletoads: Science (or Alien Space Magic, I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was sceince)

So, it would be far more appropriate to see animal/human hybrid items in a "gene splicing" pack or a "science experiment gone wrong" pack or an "I Escaped from a Crey Genetics Lab!" (just like Mynx, the game's first iconic animal/human hybrid) pack.

Still, I'm sorry y'all didn't get what you want. I can't play the game at all right now (since Hughes.net is the worst ISP), so I can totally understand your frustration for not getting what you want. That said, all you can do right now is come up with a plan to convince David that animal/human hybrid parts are in more demand than he realizes, because it's fairly clear that it will take some amount of convincing in order to show that there is a demand for such a thing. Likely, he's basing 'demand' on how often the current "manbearpig" animal heads actually get used and, since they're ugly as sin, coming to the wrong conclusions.

It may be worth the art department's time to put up a list of a half-dozen or so possible "super booster ideas", complete with a rationale and general explaination (in advance) of approximately what each booster would contain, and then let people vote on which interest them from "most interested" to "least interested" (and then linky the quiz right on the game's loader, so people who care can have a say and people who don't can be surprised/whine on the forums about it).

That's kind of what bugs me. I know David is playing devil's advocate (because he said so ), but the general feeling I'm getting from there is... Disconcerting. It's a state of "This is a bad idea, but try and convince me otherwise." which is actually a step down from "Give me a good idea and I'll see about it." In the other art threads, it was usually a case of just suggesting what you wanted and all ideas were considered. Here, we seem to have to prove not just that the idea is good, but that it's POPULAR, which is a pretty... Bad thing to ask from a playerbase with no tools for statistics.

And, yeah, looking at how many people are making animal costumes now would be a pretty bad idea. It'd be akin to trying to judge the merit of heavier-than-air flight by looking at how many people were building airplanes in the middle ages. I don't think David is falling for that, however, as that's a pretty obvious fallacy, but what he DOES seem to be falling for is the idea that "it's not represented in comic books."

Not only is that a bad criteria, given all the stuff we've been given that isn't very popular in comic books, but we've been repeatedly told over the years that "because it is/isn't like that in comic books" will never trump good game design or player request as an argument, and that's exactly what feels like it's happening here.

David did say something about a poll, though he said it within the context of the City of Heroes Facebook page, so I worry as to where that poll will be posted. If anyone spots an official-looking pole NOT on the official-looking forums, let me know!

You know, saying "I didn't *mean* to insult you, so stop being offended" is kind of like saying "I didn't *mean* to elbow you in the solar plexus, so stop being in pain".

In this case, I think it's more like "I didn't mean to brush elbows with you, stop being so offended."

I still think it's kind of funny that my comment got blown so far out of proportion.

Edit: Just because it's fitting:

I have to go to Tow here. He took pleasure in the irritation and disappointment of others. That is rather damming any way you look at it.

Yano... If you're suggesting that I'm a martyr because I get pissed off, I think you're missing the point of what a martyr actually is. A martyr would be a person who suffers pain and indignity for the sake of other people without complaint. I'm kind of the opposite, really. I get pissed off, complain and rant a lot, and any pain I suffer I suffer for myself and because of myself.

But thank you for the compliment, just the same.

You take great pleasure in tormenting and griefing people on the forum, I notice*.

* Noticed because you haven't expressed a clear, specific denial, obviously.

If it makes people feel any better none of my characters really need a Fish Head, and I don't have a concept in mind to use it.

My point is More Choice Is Better and I'd like to see us keep parity with Champions Online as far as non-human heads go.

I have not gone out of my way to make fun of people. I just rather not fight with you, as I feel you are trying to egg me on into one.

Seconded. Heck, I keep finding uses for stuff I don't think I'll need, maybe a fish head could be useful!

You could have said that in the first place, but you didn't.

Making people run around to make your self feel superior and seem right isn't all the impressive, especially if I can spot this mind game (yeah I honestly don't think I can spot many, but meh, at least I know that).

I am willing to accept that it MIGHT have been unintentional, but it defiantly didn't seem that way to me.
