Super Booster V - Mutant Theme Costume Sets: Feedback
Hey, nice.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Hmmm... Maybe I'm just not too familiar with most mutant characters in fiction. Most I think of have mutations like metal claws, laser eyes, metal skin. Generally the less 'human' looking mutants tend to have different colored skin or something exotic not in the way of animal heads.

In the lead-up to live, we'll definitely be talking more about the creation of the Mutant Pack. But basically, mutation's all about biological change, and we wanted to give players two distinct flavors of that and to make the parts as broadly usable as possible.
Bioluminescent represents the change-from-within concept of posthumanity: with these parts, your hero or villain is clearly changing at a genetic level and doing so in style--with tintable glows that really pop in dark environments. Organic Armor represents change-from-without. With these parts, you can acheive a carapace/exoskeleton look, as if your character is growing a new skin or shell or perhaps being taken over by a symbiotic entity. And for added visual punch, you get the tintable glows here too. As a set, the Mutant pack gives you the abilty to make new heroes or villains to fit a fairly wide range of aestheic types: alien-corrupted, hell-spawn, genetic freak--all of that's doable with this set. And with 2 tails, wings, and sword, there's a cherry on top. A monster-themed pack is something we can look into after Going Rogue, but that's a different set. Until then, enjoy all the new toys! |
Always great to get info from the Devs , Thanks
Also these don't have the Jlove "feel" to them did he work on these?
Please!!!! Fix the seams!!! It's really bad enough that we have pieces already that don't marry-up correctly, but to see more sets that suffer the same problem is really nerve-racking.

Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

COMING SOON: A new Epic that will change the way you see Arachnos...
Brought to you by @Equation
CO has bird feather tails and fish fins and all kinds of things we don't have. It's one area where they have us soundly beat. And a lot of people were expecting this to be it. But from the way David talks, they haven't even started thinking about doing it yet.

Neat sword, I like.
Too bad about that seam between the boot and the leg though. Makes it look like just a costume and not a mutation.
David: Thank you again for your input on this set. Disappointed with the lack of monster/bestial stuff after Positron's teaser but if you say it's in dev then I guess we'll just have to wait.
Dispari: That's a signature character, you know how that goes.
I'll almost certainly be getting this pack and using it to great effect.

Wait, SWORD? How did I miss that? Let's see...
The Mutant theme costume sets unlock all-new heads, armor, sleeves, shoulders, gloves, tails, wings, pants and boots.

Thanks for the pic and the clarification, David. This really does elevate the pack in my eyes

Yikes, bass! Good work!
Hello, my name is @Caligdoiel and I'm an altoholic.
By the way, the more I look at those swords as depicted, the more it feels like someone sneezed green on them Still pretty good, though. I can't wait to try them out.
One BIG fear, however, is that they'll scale down so hard on the female model that they'll end up looking tiny. This is pretty much my biggest concern with any weapon, to be honest.

David, would you consider adding (now or later, tied to the Mutant Pack or not, whichever) an alternate version of the Bioluminescent face with the big glowing eyes but an otherwise mostly-normal-human face? My wife and I have a couple of characters that could really benefit from those eyes... but the rest of the head, especially the mouth, doesn't work for them at all. Such a piece would, I think, notably increase the "mix and match" potential of the set.

Now that I've gotten over my initial euphoria...

All I know is I'd be a bit disappointed if the mutant pack -was- an animal booster pack. |
Hmm... Thank you David for throwing in some of your feedback. I am still a bit disappointed and perhaps I got my hopes up on Positron's little tease at one of the cons a bit back because I had hoped for canine tails, perhaps upgraded heads, more fur patterns, etc etc, along with all the rest of us.
That said, I do hope that you are sincere about your statement in considering the beast content for another pack. I DO like these pieces and I think I could use them for all sorts of things, but as others said, it is a bit more of what we already have and deeply disappointing.
I was actually really reluctant to purchase this based on my disappointment in the fact it wasn't really what I was expecting for this pack. I had also been waiting and waiting on it, like many others. I have many canine characters that have suffered with cat tails for ages. Also, We have enough Demonic horns and things and I feel a lot of this is more of the same.
I had hopes that you'd get past this hate-on of animal characters. I DO understand the aggravation with the furry community and the reluctance to encourage character creations with them but let's be honest, here. A. There have been werewolves, furries, bestial transformation characters, etc etc, in game, since launch. and B. As said before, not all bestial characters are furries. That said, they are still a subset of mutations. They are also very heavily represented in many heroic/villainous genres.
Let's just hope that you can follow through and offer a really wonderful pack in the wings that will fill a very large gap that even Champions Online rose to the challenge, met and beat.

Bass... I love that last character! And "boulder mode" looks terrific!
I think those tails and sword may very well be difference makers in people buying this one.
Out of all the things I've seen from the pack, those seem to be the most widely usable ones for different concepts/looks.
May not scream "mutant" to a lot of people, but all of the booster packs were just small subsets of possibilities within the origin's genre.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
Of course, you know what that means... where's the organic bludgeoning weapons, the organic ranged weapons, the organic claws, the organic bow...
