There are so many costume pieces on the Beta that will never see live that are just.... absolutely beautiful! This set came out wonderfully, as did that body suit set and Cyber Tech stuff! I appreciate everything these devs did, costume wise! I love you guys!

Yes, I too want to know when the servers will shut down. November 29th 11:59PM/November 30th 12:01 Am
or is it November 30th 11:59PM/November 31st 12:01 AM
That makes a difference. -
Thank you so much for all you've done for the community, Zwill! words can't express how appreciative I and others are! Good luck with your family and your future endeavors!

Probably already asked in the long thread above me but here're mine...
* The tentacles seen in the Ouroboros future - Is that Praetorian Hamidon? If so.. What's the story with that? Why is he associated with the destruction of Ouroboros?
*Did you ever have plans to have Primal Percy Winkley have a 'day in the sun' much as you did with Penny Yin?
* (along the same lines as the question above) What will become of Master Midnight after Night Ward? (NAH, I don't have a major fondness for Percy on both sides of the portal, nosiree!)
*We know that the Batallion feeds on Kheldians.. Did you have any plans to reflect that when the "Coming Storm" arrived? Would we have gotten upgrades to the Kheldains, somehow?
* Boomtown? Did it ever cross the consideration block to rebuild it?
*Dream Doctor - Now that he has returned, could we get more of a story on what he was up to when he disappeared. Where he went? (I know it was delvings into the Shadow Shard/Rularuu dimension but MORE details? Please?)
*Mender Silos - Is he REALLY redeemed or is he scheming as always? Also.... Nemesis ponies? Were they ever going to have a return? Pets? Fun mobs?
*What WERE your future plans with Nemesis?
*Dr. Aeon -The story of how he wound up with Wyvern and became Professor Echo. -
As someone who held a bitter hatred of SoE for many years due to the NGE, I would have cringed at this, a while ago.
That said, I still believe that SoE was not the sole decider on putting that game on the NGE path. Also, the head of SOE is square with me. He apologized, he acknowledged that he recognized it was an abysmal mistake. They did a lot of things to try to revive it and when it did finally go dark, I am still convinced that decision was LucasArts, for fear of competing with ToR.
Nevertheless, outside of MXO and SWG, they keep their titles. They continue to work and improve them and they know how to do MMOs effectively. So I would rather they get it than the game go dark.
Thing is? It doesn't make sense, to me, that they would buy it given it would put the game in direct competition with DCUO. DCUO does tend to run more populated on Consoles however, the PC version does have a player base, too. Not a HEAVY one but it's there and still chugging along. When I play it, there's always people around! So with that knowledge, I'm taking it with a major grain of salt, a hopeful one, but a grain nevertheless.
All we can do is keep our spirits up and our hopes high but keep a realistic sense that these ARE just rumors. I feel that it may well still go dark in December so I am not holding my breath and I am going to go along as usual with my hopes and goals and story resolutions for my characters but I am still going to keep my idealistic hopes out there in possibilities like this. -
I have been both numb and tearful for the last 18 hours on and off. I spent the last part of my evening screencapping my primary muse-like characters (the ones that nudge me to create, the most). It was hard, but it was needed. It's because of you guys that I have this much attachment to my creations. You made that possible with this wonderful game!
And for that? I can not even begin to express how grateful I am for the hard work that you and the crew of Paragon Studios have done. My prayers go out to all of you and my wishes of good luck wherever your paths take you from here and my *HUGS* go to each and every one of you for creating a world in which I felt truly heroic each evening!
Thank you, Paragon Studios. Truly.

Awwww yours is nice! A pity we can't vote for you.
-
My votes for this month...
1. Tartyrsauce - because it's just amusing.
2. Liz - I still think he looks like one of those fruity, umbrella-toting drinks! Full of deliscious!
3. Leaf-Nin - nice details. -
My wishes are mecha stave options on the order of a beam-naginata, perhaps or a twin-beams (ala Darth Maul-ish)
and please, please release that jackal head you have on the dark hounds as a beast head? It's gorgeous and I need an actual jackal head for my jackal characters! -
1. SyrusB - Because I have a real fondness for retro and minimalistic work and the St. Martial poster just really blows me away! Also, they remind me of the Disneyland posters in the entrance to the park.
2. Tartyrsauce - Oh come on! I laughed for quite a bit.. also, Ponies!
3. Leaf-nin - because I also want the frisbee... er.. Flying disk. -
-
Okay, I had heard we're supposed to get the chain mail stuff from the Knights which is marvelous! It looks great on the mobs I've seen so far. I have a wish, though... first one is obvious, someone please tell me we're going to get those Night Hound jackal heads as beast heads? I would greatly appreciate that!
The second wish? Epoch's robe? That is absolutely lovely and I think the men can use more ellaborate, detailed pieces like this! Any ideas on whether these things are going to be implemented? Is it something safe to toss into the costume wish list since they're in Beta?
Any other things we've seen in the new content anyone else would like? -
My votes for the month!
1. Liz - because seriously! that's just epic awesome villainy right there! Mood, evil Darrin and all!
2. Tartyrsauce - I'd say that little pixie's daring the true evil even Recluse and Darrin wouldn't do! Seriously!
3. MasterElemental -it's just dark and moody and very cool! -
A very nice patch indeed. I was surprised to see Beast Mastery out before Staves but I'll be buying both so that's okay!
Thank you, thank you! Thank you! For the changes in the Pocket D clothing items. I couldn't sort out why that tank top wasn't available under jackets!
Also, thank you for fixing the Alice in Wonderland fall to 'Oh great! NOW what do I do?' mess. That tripped me up so many times, last week!
Great work, guys! Keep it up! -
Quote:I can't speak for Samual_Tow but I should at least clarify, yes, I do agree, they are fantastically written. I don't take that away from them. I appreciate the hard work the devs have put into the storylines and do enjoy them. It's funny you think of it this way.
I would compare a "traditional" novel to a choose your own adventure book same way I would a traditional city of heroes mission to one where you have lots of options and stuff and the outcome changes.
Yet there are still books to be written that people read over and over.
Biggest book series of all time? Harry Potter.
Biggest movie series of all time? Harry Potter.
And that's just a retelling of someone else's story from a specific person's point of view.
(My personal favorite? book 2 and movie 2. "Master has given Dobby a sock!" gets me every time.)
A single story, told from a specific point of view, told very well, beats the interactive story every time.
Doesn't matter if it's a videogame that railroads you along...
Or a movie where a lot of characters do things you wouldn't agree with "NO ***** NO DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR HE GON KILL YOU"...
Or a book where there are things that just don't jive with you...
Or a story told by your creepy uncle that never seems to go anywhere until it's finally dinnertime and he falls asleep mid-sentence...
If you let yourself get into the story, it's nice to give your brain a little bit of a rest and just go along for the ride.
So few games built right now actually make you feel like you're in control of the entire destiny of the story - maybe that's just me being aware of game mechanics enough that I can't be surprised by cheap tricks. Maybe it's because I'm just so much better at it than others. Oh well, I'll have my fun making stuff and unleashing it on the world in my own time and I'll see how people like it or not.
Honestly I think the newer storylines are FAR better than the blander stories that have come before. I find the interaction between my character and Dean MacArthur more interesting than that of (gasp) The Radio or (gasper) Television. Yes, the dialogue doesn't work very well if your character is supposed to be mute. Or a pirate. Or a Rikti. Or an awakened Vacuum cleaner that only speaks in VRRRRRRRMMMMMM. But whatever. a stretch of the imagination to make it work? Sold. Every time. If that's slightly more challenging, bring it. I got no problem making these stories work with all my characters. (including the one that will be remotely detonated if it communicates with anyone or anything in any language other than simple hand signals)
My observation is more from the point of view of someone that does enjoy being able to immerse into the story self-insertion wise and see the story change from character to character based on our reactions and such. The new stories, however, as you are more or less saying, reading along a novel and it does feel a touch like I'm following someone else's story that only says it's directed at me.
The evolution of 'self-insertion' as the stories are progressing from old school stories where they're just a bland summary to a more 'we give you your dialogue and script' days is just occasionally frustrating from mine and my friends' standpoints.
But yes, the old stories are definitely needing SOMETHING to bring them to life, I agree. The dialogues with Dean and Roy Cooling are just fantastic and make you feel like they're talking to you. This is why I say there's a happy medium between giving us a 'general, bland summary' like the old days versus 'it's now giving you all your dialogue for you'. -
Quote:Yes, I would have to agree, here. Everything you laid out is pretty much what I've been trying to grasp. Even if I'm not running with my team, the old stories gave us just enough to 'fill in the blanks with our own characters' viewpoints, decisions, reactions.'
I don't exactly roleplay as such, just because I find the game's tools for it a bit too limiting, but I also always have a core story about the character I'm playing in my head. Whenever something at least reasonably meaningful happens to my character, I try to find a reason for it, I try to explain my character's actions and reaction in regard to it, and generally I try to explain it. Ye olde missions more or less required me to do this, because they never really bothered to give me a reason. They simply told me what to do, but never explained WHY I wanted to do it. I found that quite liberating.
Newer City of Heroes missions are a lot harder to "roleplay" in because they really give you all the details in such completeness that there's no real way for you to deviate from the story that you're given. This might be good for a first-impressions experience, but it's murder for replayability. Why WOULD I replay the same story over and over again if it'll always be the exact same story? You can't "fill in the blanks" and craft your own experience because there are no blanks to fill. Everything has been filled in for you, and only ONE single experience is on offer. Where before you could craft different interpretations for different characters, now you go with whatever interpretation the story spells out for you.
It's a lot like a particular game which started me off as a dead person coming back to life with no memories of my past, then asked me to choose my own destiny. I figured... OK, cool. Maybe I can be creative here and invent a wild and wonderful story about my past, of how I'm not even human and came from another plain of existence to... No. By the end, it turns out I'm one member of one order with one goal and that's that. So that's my story, eh? So much for having no past. Turns out I do have a very much solidly-written past, I just didn't know about it until right at the end of the game. Well, now I REALLY have no reason to replay it, because I just don't like that story.
You can only ever roleplay in an environment that gives you room to do so. The reason I say our writers of today are trying way too hard is because they go so far out of their way to leave us no room for interpretation.
When teamed, we'd play out the stories, react to them, the characters would fuss, rage, be motivated by the details in whatever way suited them. To a certain extent they still are, but now their reactions are more dictated and this bothers me a bit.
This is a large reason why I had so much issue with the current popular MMO feeding me my dialogue and all of that. It just felt... TOO much out of my hands. And on the other hand, I think it forced people who could give a damn about reading all that dialogue and just want to smash things, move on, to deal with it, too.
I think the happy medium I'd personally love to see is something between First Ward and the old stories. I DO like the contacts with personality. I just have a tougher time letting my characters write their own stories when the dialogues and details do that for them. -
1. Liz -c'mon! it's just too fun and cute the faces on the twins and on Synapse! Also the whole pinkish coloration with the hearts background is just fun.
2. Master Elemental - I like the concept of it even if it's a bit rough, drawing wise. The mood's very sentimental.
3. Leaf-nin - It's just overall very pretty and simple. I love the flowers. -
This is actually an interesting topic, although I have had a different spin on something that has subtley bothered me a bit with the new dialogue. Don't get me wrong, the writing is fantastic, but as someone who Roleplays to the story arcs with my friends, I found myself discussing with my friends 'why does it seem that we aren't RPing like we used to, with this new stuff?"
The conversation came up that while the stories are engaging a great deal, they do something that makes it a touch harder to personalize it to the entire team. They direct the conversations AT YOU. (Individually) and also expect and dictate responses FROM YOU. (individually)
Further. The long strings of your friend clicking through 'next page' 'next page' does leave the team mates with very little to respond to adding to that, being ambushed in the midst of reading through the dialogue (or reading the NPCs' dialogue like what goes on in SSA 4 with Alexis' standoff with the Arachnos Operative) makes it very difficult for those of us who might actually want to read this stuff.
To be honest, no, I don't think the solution here is 'radial menus with dialogue choices we all vote on' or such because I feel that starts hindering those players who just don't give a darn about the story. Perhaps a happy medium between the 'here's the mission summary' and the long dialogues pages of pages. I think that would be the conversational tone of the NPCs like we see in the Isles with Dean and the Nance and Cooling arcs on blueside without taking too much of our freedom of RPing and our own characters' particular way of talking away from them as opposed to the long texts of 'next page' choosing our characters' dialogues for us. -
Incidentally.... These pieces are looking faboo!!! Thank you for your hard work!
-
I haven't seen it, and maybe I missed it (if I did, I apologize) Will the rings on the boots/gloves be available for the guys, too? Please please please say yes!

Quote:Hello, ladies. Look at your question, now back to me, now back at your question, now back to me. Sadly, it doesn't make sense, but if you looked at the poster you quoted and applied past examples and a smidgen of logic it could make sense.
Look down, back up, where are you? You're on a blimp, with the man who could make it all make sense. What's in your hand, back at me. I have it, it's a note saying "It's Golden Girl, what do you think?" Look again, the note is now a facepalm image. Anything is possible on the internet where smilies run wild. I'm on a Nemesis Steam-horse.
You win, just for being Old Nemesis Spice guy! -
Quote:I also would like the head dresses, halos for the men, too. They'd pair up nicely with all the Ascension pieces.I can only speak for myself, but my interest is in the beautiful, unique halos and head-dresses that the Carnival of Light have. Those seem like they could fit a man as well as a woman - and it's just as gaudy as the Ascension Radiance set.
Just another thing to add on the "To-Do Someday" list.
*laughs* I suppose I shouldn't have mentioned that face - It is a little Derpy, isn't it? -
Quote:Ah! I thought they did have a plain blindfold. I swore I saw it. I admit I don't play women as much and my memory is a little dodgey sometimes. Then yes, they both need it.Females get just a cloth? Last I recall they were stuck with a chain or barbed wire as well.
As for the Carnie masks, I agree, give them to the males. However, they explained it what they did, they just ported over the pieces from the female NPC avatars to the female PC avatars.
Porting them to males would have been even more work.
What can be hoped for though is that something like this happens for the Carnie Masks and Sash.
Wouldn't mind a plain white mask you could put face decals on either. Personally, I don't see the hype over the face masks as they are, limits concepts alot imo. -
To begin with, I do want to thank the devs for listening to us and creating these pieces for the women. I think it's high time they have options that are more badass, less badgirl. Thank you Dink for doing a lot of hard work to unisex these pieces! I appreciate do the work.
However, I tend to play primarily guys. That's just my thing. Someone has to give them love so why not us girls? The guys are playing all the women characters! So some of the posters telling those of us who do play males to not speak up for the male lack and just make females or turn our boys into girls just makes me ruffle a a little. Heehee. Anyways, I digress.
So yes, I am in agreement with the others on things that could unisex the other ways. I have a lot of sadness that the women models get their cake and eat it too while the guys get... what everyone gets. Why not unisex the other way, too?
The women have so many exclusive pieces that people think can't port over because they're applying gender roles to them, like the Carnies masks. Fair enough, I won't go into the whole Kabuki or that there may be more effeminate males who MIGHT wear them, whatever. However, there's many pieces in the women's side that SHOULD be ported, and aren't or at the very least should have some equivilant for the men.
*Blindfolds without chains/barbed wire (seriously? Why? I have a character that should wear a blindfold and all he gets is bondage-chains when the women get a nice piece of cloth)(Strike this one My memory is apparently off!)
*long, non-anime hair (like a heavy metal guy!)
*Long pony tails of some sort that don't look like they were slicked down with motor oil?
*Thigh high boots. C'mon! Pirates wear em! Other MMORPGs of heroic nature have em! Why not OUR men? A male equivilant to the Carnie boots would fit this bill. (Same upper, different, more masculine feet, perhaps?)
*Carnival sashes (please? Once again Pirate looks? Kheldians?)
As for the Carnival of Shadows. Okay yes, male Carnies get helmets/buckets. However, what about the Carnival of Light. The men have the Legacy chain pieces. Why not give the men more masculine equivilant masks. Just because the NPCS don't have them doesn't mean WE don't want them. My male Carnie of Light WOULD wear a mask but currently just uses the Jester mask.
At any rate, in closing. Thank you for the hard work, all that blabbing aside. I do appreciate it. But I will say there's a reason many of us do hope for a little love the other way, too.
