Power Questions

Ok, I have two questions:

1. How many powers have been as a result of player feedback? Kinda curious on that one.

2. Do the Devs do any planning as far as powers go. I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, but usually we are good for 2-3 new ones per year. Is that accurate?

One more question:

3. How many people like the temporary powers, and would like to see more?

1. Here's a list (along with other, non-power suggestions), though I don't believe it's entirely up-to-date
2. I wouldn't say so. This year we're getting 4 new sets by July, and I believe we've gone a full year without getting a single one. It varies.

Never saw that list before. A few of the things that surprised me:

Enhancement diversivication was a player suggestion/request?

Travel suppression was a player suggestion/request?

You didn't used to have to type the character's name to delete the character? Yikes!

And to answer question #3: I do, and yes, I'd like to see more even though I haven't checked out all the ones they just added. Still hoping for a craftable jet pack.

Whoever suggested TS needs to be kicked in the spleen.

That's actually a craftable temporary power available since I17

Eh, TS was the option chosen, rather. It was either TS or a nasty to-hit penalty.

ED was seen nescessary by several players with a good sense of game design, as well as the developers.

Enhancment Diversification wouldn't have caused such a furvor if the Invention system was implemented at the same time or at least announced as coming soon.

The alternative was a ridiculous -tohit while using the travel power. See Group Fly for an example.

I guess what I want is a craftable costume piece like Rocket Boots then - something that animates when you fly.

Well the jetpack engine do glow like the rockets boots..... but yeah it's not a costume piece so it does run out.

But you can buy it again when it runs out. It costs 10,000 inf in either Firebase Zulu (hero) or Grandville (villain).

And as an added benefit, you don't have to use up a costume slot just to have the pack showing.

I would like the recipe to be a different pack though. They have:

Raptor Pack
GoldBricker Pack
Jingle Jet
Pay-Card Pack

that all have different graphics. But all temp powers, stores, and now the recipe only give the one raptor pack? And the one time I did the redside mission to get a skyraider pack, it looks just like the raptor pack too. Total let down.

I believe the "skills system" was talked about (and the universities "built") around then - then dropped as not being workable/fun, the idea being folded into inventions.

The one that surprises me is removing ice from brutes. Why would players request that?

Because the slows drastically reduced the amount of incoming attacks, which is a very large part of a Brute's Fury generation.

Re: ED--I miss Pilcrow.
Since the full suppression story hasn't been told I am going to elaborate.

Only Fly had a combat penalty before suppression. I think we had -50% to our to-hit so we who loved flying had cooked up lots of ways to switch between fly and hover using keybinds.

Then PvP was added and people discovered they didn't like getting jousted by superspeeders. The NPCs had been quiet about the unfairness of it for the first 4 issues but players in the arenas were not (understandably so).

So the devs handed superspeeders and superjumpers the same to-hit or accuracy penalty (I can never remember which is which). They did not like that penalty. So suppression was allocated to them. And to all the fliers who were quite used to the to-hit/acc penalty even though many of us didn't want suppression and hate it to this day.

Then another change not caused by PvP but rather by unfair ability to get badges came to Phase Shift (we used to be able to go AFK phased as long as we managed our endurance consumption). But that is a topic for another day.

<--- Hates suppression still to this day.

total kick to the gut

In the early parts of CoV Beta, Fury was generated by being hit. Ice being a defense set, rather than a resist set, combined with the slows from the auras and ice melee, meant that Ice / Ice Brutes generated almost no Fury. Fury also degenerated a lot faster then, so the Fury that Ice did build was almost impossible to maintain.

Late in CoV Beta, months after Ice had been removed, they changed the Fury mechanic so that it built when the Brute was attacked (not hit) and when the Brute attacked.

Ice should be acceptable for Brutes under the current conditions, it is just a matter of Castle and crew having the time to tweak the numbers the next time they do a round of Proliferation.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

See, I can understand players not choosing ice for that reason, or else asking for it to be changed, but I'm not sure why they would demand it be removed. Unless they assumed doing so would cause something else to be added in its place?

That's because the 'Raptor pack' IS a Skyraider pack.

Energy Aura was added in its place when Ice was taken away.

Well, a "Are you really sure you want to delete this character?" dialogue box did pop up when you clicked the delete button, so it's not like it instantly wiped them. Not much consolation if you weren't paying close attention of course.

i've been asking for back pieces like that since craftable costume pieces were added. Still hoping too.

Yeah, that wasn't really an even trade. Energy Aura was pretty crap when it first came out.

Yep. i remember a friend getting the Sky Raider pack from the story arc back around late 2004/early 2005. Even back then players were asking for backpacks and jet packs as costume pieces. Wings were supposedly going to be unique to the Avilan EAT and factor heavily into their playstyle. Avilans were eventually dropped and all characters ended up being able to get wings, which was for the best in my opinion. Still waiting for costume piece backpacks and jet packs.
