Would Anyone Play a Longbow/PPD AT?

I'd actually be perfectly happy playing an Arachnos Soldier with the PPD Hardsuit (almost) always on... if only I could get my weapons fire to come from the gatling guns on the forearms... Don't need a new AT, just a wee bit moar Power Customization (well, and for Going Rogue to go live, heheh)

Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

Cough.

Also, bone stock, not even flash, 2.0.0.18 firefox and things are randomly not marked as read, as well as on the latest firefox and i.e.

Update: On my PSP web browser right now and I still have issues with posts that I have already read being marked as unread.

I use Google Chrome. If I if forgets who I am when I log in there will be unread thread but reading any of them will make everything say it has been read.

But the epic ATs don't have a predefined background, only a defined present. It's one thing to be called a Soldier of Arachnos of Kheldian, but quite another to say how you got to that point.

Actually, for the VEATs at least, the lore of how you get to be one is pretty set. There's only one way.

Uh, no. Not really. There's nothing in the story arcs that states how you were recruited into the ranks of Arachnos, only that you were.

I don't log out of the forums. There's nothing I hate more than having to log out and relog all the time. And it doesn't fix anything even when I do it, anyway.

That's kind of why I will always advocate for generic ATs before more Epic ones. I don't so much mind the story mandate (even though I do) as I mind the enforced theme. Every time I ask for, say, an Assault/Defence AT, people tell me to go play a Kheldian, or go play a Soldier of Arachnos. Well, no. Suppose I want to play one with Fire powers? Or how about one with Electric powers? Or cold powers? Or how about one with Electric and Cold powers?

Epic ATs don't cut it, not as a framework. And I still want to see more generic ATs before I see more Epic ones.

Since my current character is a duel pistols/devieces running around with a PPD logo, yes I would.

No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.

I can also see them with a "Call for Reinforcement" power like the VEAT's have. The PPD have some of the sweetest armor and drones in game! I can see something like this happening in future Issues. Longbow needs a costume upgrade. A power armor or kevlar vests like the SWAT team have.

Edit - and yes I would play a PPD/LB AT!

Prometheus: ... so what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.
Me: From a certain point of view?
Prometheus: You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on your point of view.
Me: You're right about that. Power Blast is very pretty from a certain point of view. But that point of view is not head-on. <Kaboom> - Arcanaville.

Actually I wonder if it has less to do with adblock and noscript, and has more to do with cookie deletion. I run both of those addons, as well as Better Privacy. I have Firefox set to delete all temps/cookies when I close the browser, and never remember any forms/passwords. Better Privacy also deletes all of the "flash cookies" which are a special kind of temp cookie that don't get deleted by Firefox. So yeah, I pretty much have no idea what's new and what isn't, but I don't spend enough time on the forums for it to bother me. (I also no longer get viruses or malicious scripts. I finally made the switch to Firefox with adblock and noscript when ConFiker ate my registry and I had to go buy a new copy of windows. Just because someone embedded some script on someone's DeviantArt page. Shame.)

I'd rather that than what it does to me: Mark's EVERYTHING read when I log in...about 30% of the time. Nothing more fun than coming in on a Monday morning and seeing "No New Posts" since I left Friday night, despite seeing right there on the front page post dates of that day.

I'm assured by our crack web team that this is caused by the highly unusual browser set up I use -- Firefox with NoScript and AdBlockPlus.
If we going to talk crazy browser bugs, how about the one that constantly logs me out in Safari? Nothing more annoying than having made a long post, click submit and being asked to log in, to have the browser entirely forget about the post I written.

Nothing in the in-game story arc text specifically, but it's established lore that all spiders and widows/fortunatas are recruited as children and raised in training facilities.

So background is a tad fixed.

Does it specify all of them are or that a lot/some of them are?

--- edit

In game text for Wolf spider (Lord Recluse recruits legions of desperate souls to fill their ranks...) suggests to me that children are not the only recruits.

No.

There's enough ATs out there... and if you get PPD cossie code then you can create your own.

There's no need for the Devs to make a special one. Roll your own instead.

Gotta agree with this. Chrome > Firefox.

Of course Opera > Chrome (IMO)

They don't exactly grow on trees though, rather difficult to get (I gave mine away as an ingame prize).

I gave away loads during Friday Night Fight Club back in the day!

Come to think of it, there are a lot of NPC Groups who I wouldn't mind seeing made into Epic ATs.

Like Freakshow. I really want to win a Freakshow Tank costume code from The Cape Radio's anniversary contest, just so I can make a Freakshow Tank toon. (I'm thinking I'd go with either SS/Elec, Dark/Elec, Dark/Dark, or Warshade Shadow Type Tank which may require some bind dancing...)

Or perhaps the long requested Rikti AT? (Rikti can canonically disguise themselves as humans. In fact, there is at least one Redside Contact who is such a Rikti. But I'll leave you to figure out who that is, if you don't know.)

Right. I obviously missed that AT that has power armour and can fire gatling guns from its arms. Oh, and that laser canon over the shoulder. Durr, ain't I daft?

To be fair, Tech, that can be reasonably fudged with a new powerset on, say, Blasters. We talked about it over on Suggestions, and I liked it as a powerset. Power Armour is harder to do, but I still say we need to get access to Epic pools sooner. That'd solve a LOT of problems. Say, put them at 30 or 32. That'd give Blasters access to their Epic shields at, what, level 35? 38? Sooner than 45, anyway.

The story arc in question mentions *Bane* Spiders and Fortunatas. It doesn't say anything about other Soldiers. Also, while that's stated as being the main method of recruitment, I don't think it's stated as being the only way.

Besides, the VEATs contradict previously established lore anyway, since all Bane Spiders were previously stated to be male, and all Widows/Fortunatas female. Player Bane Spiders in general also seem to make very little sense, at least unless you're willing to stick to an extremely constrained back-story.

Basically, there now seems to be an internal inconsistency in the game lore as far as the VEATs are concerned, which leaves us with the choice of how to deal with that.

If you want to strictly adhere to previously established lore, you're limited to female Fortunatas/Widows and non-Bane Soldiers (unless your (male) Bane happens to be one capable of projecting a false mind I suppose).

The other options involve bending the "rules" a bit, and if you're willing to do that, you could also bend them a little in other ways. Basically, you're only as constrained by game lore as you want to be.

Note also that there are VEAT options (for instance non-Bane Soldiers) that are not very constrained when it comes to background stories.

Browser choice is very subjective, depending as it is on preference and usage patterns.

For my needs/wants, Firefox currently seems to be the best option. There are however things that I think other browsers do better.
