City of Heroes mentioned in Popular Science!
That's the same conclusion ("No, it isn't") that has come up ... oh, pretty much any time it's asked by someone not plugging their console.

It's far more likely that console gaming will die before PC gaming, especially as the consoles become more and more like computers themselves. I'll possibly be dead by then (only because I'm old now), but I can see a time in the near future where all your electronics will be controlled by a central computer of some sort (and this can actually be done now, more or less, if you want). Things will integrate more and more as time goes on.

idk...hows out playerbase/subs going from last year?...hmmm kinda looks like it doesnt it?

Not really. As long as they're still making enough money to keep the game going, drops in subs aren't an indicator of "death", just age.
And certainly one game is indicative of nothing at all as far as the whole of PC gaming is concerned.

I remember way back in the mid 90's I tried out this thing called WebTv.
It let you surf the net, write e-mails, all kinds of stuff just no downloading or printing all from your TV.
I thought to myself that this is the start of it. Eventually we'll have a central computer, like on Star Trek, that just controls everything.
I don't see the PC dying. At least not entirely. Eventually it'll reach a point where we have a choice.
"Do I want to play COH4 on my TV or laptop?"
I can see it getting to a point when you can be sitting at your desktop, selling in WW, your friend comes over and asks you to lunch so you hit a few buttons and pass you IPad over a sensor. The game smoothly transfers and you get in your car. At which point you tell the navigation system you destination and plug you Ipad in so you can keep playing on your way to eat...
Scary isn't it.

what color is the sky in your world?

I'm sorry you feel that way, Severe. You seem to be really upset lately. I hope you feel better and find something to cheer you up.

Severe needs crowds: so you saying that half the servers arent ghost towns..teaming is at a all time low and the server tokens were just "gifts" instead of a an alternative to server merging? |

I think you're right. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that eventually, that central computer won't even be your computer. I mean, think about it. Right now, the game that we all play is controlled by central computers owned by NCsoft. I also buy movies and television shows that live on Amazon's servers. My tax information lives on Intuit's servers. The current craze is to offload everything into "the cloud." At some point, I imagine a time when the devices we own are all basically dumb terminals to the real computers, which have high availability, redundancy, can be endlessly scaled up or out as needed, etc.
If you are 80, then sorry about that, and it was really nice knowing you. Put in a good word for me with whatever rulers of the afterlife you run across. Um... I mean... Hey, chin up, you can make it to 100!
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
TonyV denies my decrepitude: Dude, unless you're like 80 or something, you have plenty of time left to see the Next Big Thing in computers. Something comes along to revolutionize them every 10 years or so, and really, that timespan is growing shorter and shorter. |

We got a nice little plug in an article in Popular Science, Is PC Gaming Dead. Their conclusion: No.
