The joke that got me kicked from VU2010

I got booted for that. Glad to know this is the year 1950.

Edit: There are a couple of things I need to clarify about this.

There was a porn site linked in a response to my joke. I didn't link it, someone else did.

I have never been warned or silenced in VU2010 for anything. If I had been told to cut it out, or even silenced, this post wouldn't have happened. First offense: boot.
**** is not funny, and its not appropriate to joke about, but... forgive me, im not sure I see the punchline in your line above, just a slightly distressing observation. IF you think about it, the logical conclusion of ERPvP really IS ****. I can't say that seems like a good thing to me, but it IS true. I suppose if you were really obviously playing it for laughs, and being insensitive... well, that would be different. But simply as you've given it above, no, that doesn't seem, to me, like a banable offense. But then, I don't moderate channels, or run guilds, either. *le shrug*

(And would the VU mods have banned me for this little joke? I'm rather curious to know).
My first question would be do you know who the Mods are? Im going to guess no because you havent noticed any of the perfectly reasonable responces they have given.

To answer your question. The mods dont ban people. They ask to stop, they silence and they kick. It being a public channel even a boot is reversable. If they would take action over it. I doubt it.

Well, no, of course I don't know the mods. Hence why I chose to stay on the fringes of the issue, rather than in the midst of it. Having gone through a not-insignificant amount of hassle and headache due to arbitrary, easily-offended, moderators, my natural sympathy lies with the OP though his joke style is very much not in my taste. As a channel mod, I tend to take kicking someone as a rather extreme action, but, as a channel mod also, I am aware of the difficulties of cat-herding a group of people.

However, this response demonstrates at least one thing about the VU crowd to me: they have very little sense of humour.

Well, if they asked to stop or silence or anything, it might have been more reasonable. I was there for this and it was odd. Somebody made a joke about "lfg level 69" and then it went into pvp, and somebody mentioned erpvp, then came the kickable line, and then there were a few more quips along those lines (which were arguably worse than his), and then not much else. Conversation died, went elsewhere. And then after the fact, suddenly and without warning, the guy gets kicked. After he's kicked, we get a nice mod message of "**** jokes are not okay". (I'm rather annoyed that the character I was on didn't have Log Chat on, I usually always have that on)

It was a hamfisted response to what was a light statement that wasn't even joking about ****, but about "erpvp" (heck, I can't even say that the sentence of "wouldn't that be ****" is a joke at all). Talking to the person, making a point about "this is not okay", and so forth are reasonable reactions. Kicking the guy awhile after the fact without so much as a word to the person isn't.

Are jokes about prison **** okay? Because I found that in the VU2010 channel while I was looking for this one. Same day, even.

I can honestly see someone seeing a link between ERPvP and simulating Non-Consentual Sexual Activity. I might not crack jokes about it, but I certainly don't participate in ERP, with or without the "vP", as the E doesn't stand for "Rated E for Everyone" and you never know how old the other player *really* is.
Just seems potentially skeezy to me.

But hey, to each his own, right?
I'll be out there with the RP that takes place outside of the "bathing suit areas".

Now have fun, play nice with each other and um....don't let the Rularu get ya!

Fixed that for ya!

Oh, I know what this game is rated at. But I keep my own chatter rated at "Mild".

I'm not easily offended, but with the possibility of underage kids on the other side, I'd rather not be labelled with those folks who have to notify the sheriff every time they move.

I didn't see Zombie Man's statement as calling out the difference between a person's words verses their actions. I'm not sure what context you used to establish that he was.

The OP made a claim - People should be able to laugh at a "****" joke - it isn't the 50's.

I believe Zombie Man was pointing out that this was ironic - as the general feeling is that **** was far more tolerated in the 50's than it is today. (Or at least - bad behavior by men was far more socially acceptable then compared to now.)

Thus - the expectation, that using the 50's as the paragon of a period of high moral fuddy-duddiness was different that the result in this case. At least - that is the case I believe is being made. I mean - do folks really think women had better standing in the 50's than they do now?

We must be zealous in our defense of the word irony - but not be zealots.

I think we need to learn what irony means first...
