Forum Rep?
I think that the higher the rep of the person handing it out, the more it's worth to the person recieving it. I just gave you a +Rep, and you jumped to Green. You can see how much rep I have (though I have no idea how I got it... o.0)

Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Well....
It seems to have fixed itself, two greenes for me.
Thanks everyone!
Forum rep means almost nothing. Don't worry about it.
+Rep can be obtained by posting insightful, polite and well-crafted posts, by having a few friends or by simply farming it.
-Rep can be obtained by trolling, by being hostile towards your fellow posters, or simply posting something that folks disagree with, although the first two methods are more common.
It's like Post Count in a way. A high Post Count means only that someone is very chatty. They like to discuss this game and post here. No more, no less.

You can also get -rep for passing on accurate info from the devs themselves, because people are dumb.

As I understand it, the amount of rep granted is based (somewhat) on the difference between the rep of the two people. If you've got lots of rep and give someone with no rep a positive, their rep jumps up really quick. If you've got very little rep and try to give someone a positive, it will barely do anything, if anything at all.

According to VBulletin:
Register Date Factor The number of reputation points that a user is able to give or take is dependant on several factors, with the length they have been registered as one of them. A user's power is first initialized at 1 and then this factor and the factors that follow are used to increase it. For example if you set this to 365, every 365 days that the user has been a member of your forum, they would gain one point. So if they have been a member for five years, they would gain 5 points of power for a total of 6. Post Count Factor The amount of posts that a user has can also affect their reputation power. Set this to number of posts that you want to award one point for. For example, set this to 50 and for a user with 500 posts, they would gain 10 points of power. Reputation Point Factor The users current reputation score can also affect their reputation power. Set this to 100 and a user with a reputation of 1000 would gain 10 points of reputation power. If you set any of the power factors to 0, that will effectively remove that factor from having an effect on the user's reputation power. Minimum Post Count If the reputation system is enabled, anyone will be able to rate a post but only users with a post count above the level you set here will be able to actually give points or take points from another user. Minimum Reputation Count As with the post count above, a user must have a reputation above this level to be able to give or take points from another user's score. |
The OP's friend most likely did not meet the "Minimum Post Count" requirement, and therefore kept his rep at 0.
Hey All,
So a friend of mine just made herself a forum name and posted on a few threads, so since I agreed with what she said I tossed her a rep point and her icon went from grey to green with one +rep.
Mine however, regardless of the one she gave back is still grey? do I need a certain ratio of Rep/posts or something?
