Ambushed!

So I'm just minding my own business as I was in the Mutant Store in Talos buying some enhancements when "BAM" all of a sudden, two Tuatha de Dannan snuck up behind me and dropped me dead. Needless to say, this completely caught me off guard as I was all relaxed and had my enhancement screen up so I never saw them coming.

I did have a mish up that was in Croatoa to defeat 10 Tuatha de Dannan's. I know that normally when you get a "Defeat 10 or more So and So" type mish, you might get some immediate spawned ambushes regardless of what zone you are in. But, ahemm,..this is the first time I was ever ambushed "inside" a store...hehee. I was able to get a snap shot before this last one fell to the ground, thanks to the other hero standing next to me as my dead carcass lay strewn across the floor..lol. Anyone else ever have this happen to them? I'm thinking it was some kind of glitch on the spawn but who knows, I've never had a foe spawn inside a store before.

I think that there must be some small random % of this happening, my Bro's WS had a Void Hunter attack us in the Steel Canyon branch of the Midnighter's Club.

It was a bit of a shock, but it does add an element of surprise to the game.

You'd of thought someone noticed the Tautha taking the train t where ever you were. I can just hear the NPC chatter already.

"Hmm, well you don't see that every day."

Yep. Ambushes can follow you up/down elevators, and also into stores. (provided there aren't drones outside the store or somewhere on the path from their spawnpoint to the door)

I've met that Void hunter I think. It was the same place but, it may not have been the same one. I couldn't ask his name while his lvl 47 self pummeled my lvl 15 carcass

not entirly true, once I was in a rikti raid with a blaster like lvl 20ish in talos well I was about to die so I made a run for it inside the train and thought I was safe and a rikti TPed right past the drone inside the train after me and killed me.

Apparently rikti can tp threw walls lol.

I've also had Nemesis ambushers attack me inside Wentworths. I think they got in by jumping over the back wall, the same way I often do. It does make things more interesting.

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

Technically, all NPCs that can teleport could do this; you're just less likely to see guys like the Sky Raiders attack Talos than the Rikti. It's a function of how the NPC AI interprets their surroundings; their "line of sight" basically includes the game map of their general surroundings to try and cut down on some pathing stupidities that would otherwise result. I obviously don't have the full details of how their AI works, and their pathing is hardly flawless as-is, but there you go. As a side effect, their teleport targeting isn't as restricted as ours; not a specifically intended buff to them, but not oppressively unfair enough to be worth trying to change.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

So can players, assuming they can get their camera to an angle to see the ground on the other side of the wall.

Those Tuatha de Dannans should be banned for using an exploit.

Apparently ambushs can follow you places where enemies normally can't go. I recall hearing about an ambush following someone into a store once before, but in that instance the player reported that the enemies immediately exited as if they realized they weren't supposed to be there. This is the first I've heard of a player actually killed in a store by an ambush.

The ambushes I hate are the ones where it's someone else's mobs.

There I am, minding my own business in the south end of Skyway City on my mid-teens Defender, when a couple level 40 (or so) Malta Group decide to say hi.

And they said hi to me a few levels later in Talos Island.

That was caused by a bug. Drones or not, they should have dropped dead as soon as they got close to Wentworth's due to the kill zone around the place.

I have been attacked inside WWs by an ambush before - but it wasn't by the enemies (Nemesis) coming into the building...

It is also the only time I can recall a SNIPER being part of an ambush.

Now that I think of it, was that a bug, or does that happen on occasion?

Oh WOW I have never seem that before and the screen shot leaves no doubt in anyone's mind. I've been attacked at outdoor stores before like the ones in KR or redside the ones in Port Oakes but having them follow you into the store? I have even used stores to escape from attacks before so this is NOT good news. I'm sure it a very rare bug and hopefully you'll go years before ever seeing that happen again.

Yeah I hate those too. Latest one I saw was during a Synapse TF in Steel Canyon. I rounded a corner and found myself stairing at level three level 48 Nemesis minions. Sad part is these days with everyone using Ouro portals the "owner" of said ambush probabloy doesn't even realize what they have left behind. Their contact sends them to Steel or even Atlas for one mission, they complete and when they emerge get the next mission which spawns the ambush. They toss down a portal and are gone by the time the ambush arrives and then it stands around waiting for them.

Of course I have also been attacked on the Train platform in brickstown where I saw someone streak past me and jump on a train and i was left to deal with the ambush that was chasing them ..which of course had managed to avoid the police Drones!

It used to be that when you sent out a broadcast like "Who left their L48 Malta by the train?" generally either the original owners would fix the problem, or some high level Samaritan would take care of 'em. Sometimes I was the Samaritan.

I don't know if that still happens, and it probably varies from server to server.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

On Guardian I respond if I'm on a character of the appropriate level, but usually someone has beaten me to the punch. It's not often one gets a chance to be the hero for real live players.

I think it actually happens a lot, but since Snipers don't usually move, they get left behind and you don't notice it as much. It's more noticeable inside missions when you have to "defeat all", and you go back and see one or two in the hallway, similar to how the Cimeroran Surgeons in ambushes usually don't move until the rest of the mob is defeated also. During the ITF, you'd kill an ambush mob, and then a lone surgeon makes his way down the hill at you, lol.

Red side some ambushers love to wait until you step off the ferry to other zones. I have seen a few cases of high level ambushers in Mercy.

You can count on a lvl 30ish ambush in Mercy during the Renault SF.

It'd make Kheldians a lot more fun if you always had a (very low) percentage chance of having Void Hunters spawn and hunt you down while you're patrolling.

I remember reading somewhere on the boards that the Void in the Midnighters Club was a bug related to that the map is also used in a redside mission so has spawn points.

Not had an ambush track me down while I was shopping but I once saw someone elses Soldiers of Rularuu floating outside a store in Talos. I was "OMG what are those" as I was still relatively new and didn't have a clue. Interesting though that they are able to escape the Shadow Shard now, I think someone should let Portal Corps know!

I hate getting beaten up by somebody else's ambush. I've been hit by DE in King's Row and Family in Mercy. And way back when I was fairly new, a Kheld zoned into KR via the Yellow Line and a group of Nictus spawned inside the train station with her. Luckily, she actually stayed and fought them instead of leaving all the low-level heroes to their fates.

Ran into a bizarre ambush myself this weekend - tagging along with a sewer team on my lvl 50 illusion/kin.

Hadn't been in or on a mission with her in weeks. Was bouncing around Atlas for like an hour before going into the sewers behind the PuG.

About 10 mins in, this level 50 Council ambush comes rushing up one of the ramps at us!

I guess it coulda been my ambush, tho I don't see how - anyway I'm glad I was there to take care of them or that lowbie sewer PuG woulda been in big trouble!

What would be hilarious would be to see something like that happen to a fresh big group of new recruits to that Iron Eagles SG (the one where if you die you either delete or drop from the group).

Just picture the Eagles having a big recruiting drive and a bunch of new recruits sign up together...

Exit Outbreak, and the entire pack immediately gets mowed down by some level 50's forgotten ambush in Galaxy or Atlas. It could happen yaknow.
