They fight... well, not exactly "crime", but they fight!
sounds like a cheesy but funny sitcom.

as for Calvin, if he wasn't such a crybaby he'd be with the ANARCHISTS and would have taken her!!!

Hubby was a bigger fan of the game than I was, but I enjoyed it (teaming the Spartans and the University = DEATH to all other factions). But my personal preference was MASTER OF ORION 2 (well, that and SHOGUN TOTAL WAR and MEDIEVAL TOTAL WAR).

Spoken like a true resistance terrorist.

Of couse you'd say that. it takes the glaring light of truth off of your hero, a rage and hate filled monster willing to scorch the world just to stop the peace loving Emperor Cole.

I think Tyrant's love of peace counts as tough love

After (finally)reading the Dune series, I'm wondering if the Praetorian Tyrant will end up being like the Tyrant in Dune, evil, but a necessary evil to prevent a greater calamity.

Calvin Scott could be Duncan Idaho...I guess :/

I'd say God Emperor Leto II failed, the calamity did happen: KJA was allowed to touch Dune.

Derailing a bit: Those two books (Hunters and Sandworms) were lame in comparison to the rest....

I was willing to give them a fair shot, free from (what I perceived as) fanboyism to Frank Herbert. But Hunters and Sandworms were just lousy vehicles for all their other Dune books....that was disappointing.

Indeed. KJA soils everything he touches.

Anyhow, back on topic...sort of. I plan to play my loyalist sort of like Moneo.

Even if you take an objective viewpoint, Calvin Scott is a raging sociopath.

Sociopathy is essentially psychopathy, except that it's caused by environmental factors (eg, losing your wife). For a professional's description of psychopathy:

This is a perfect description of Calvin Scott. While I doubt there's much sexual intercourse involved in Scott's quest to get his wife back, he is absolutely using charisma, manipulation, and/or intimidation to get people to join his Resistance, and he's using violence against the Praetorian utopia to vent his anger. And regaining his wife is absolutely a selfish goal; he doesn't care what happens to Tyrant or any of the praetors. In fact, if they gave him his wife back, he'd probably return to being a loyal citizen.

Scott doesn't care how much collateral damage he creates pursuing his wife. He doesn't care how far away from the societal standards of Praetoria he strays. He has no guilt about it. He won't shed a tear about any of it.

Calvin Scott is a textbook sociopath.

the same could be said about Emperor Cole, except the white man has the power, pushing the brother down!

Fight the oppression Calvin!

While I would agree that Emperor Cole does use similar means (charisma, manipulation, intimidation... etc.), his goal isn't selfish, and he's not violating the social norms.

How much more selfish can "only I know what is right for everyone" and on the other point, He makes the norms, hard to violate yourself

I think you're reading a bit too much into that

Praetoria shouldn't be a racist society, becuase that'd give it away far too early as being evil - Praetoria has to look perfect at first, to make the uncovering of the truth more interesting and dramatic.

Cause it's only racism if it's blatantly obvious.
