Potential Difficulties with the New Updater

Questions to Paragon/NcSoft.
Did anyone think to even check this upgrade on EU settings?
If not why not?
If you did how the hell did you get in this state?

 Edit: For EU peoples this should work.. 1. Go into the folder where CoH is, for example c:\program files\city of heroes 2. Delete the .prv file in there as per instructed by TheOcho 3. Rename the cohupdater.EU to just cohupdater (if you're in Vista click all the appropriate YES buttons as per normal) 4. Right click and run as Admin if in Vista, or just double click cohupdater 5. When it asks where to put the files (as it's now wanting to install the US version) just say NO! and Cancel.. quit out of the Updater. 6. Go back into the program folder and rename the file back to cohupdater.EU and run it again. Hopefully that should work! |
I'm guessing this could just be to do with the volume of people trying to connect to the server too.

I think we were on the same wavelength.. Only thing I did differently was to say NO when it asked where I wanted to put the files and cancelled, then quit out of the updater. Renamed and it's working fine now

fixed mine ..in the coh folder there was a file called cohupdater.new renamed that to cohupdater.eu.exe and make sure its not set to read only. worked for me

Running Windows 7 on NA servers. Getting error message that rename failed to delete target c:\program files (x86)\city of heroes\CohUpdater_UI_Win.dll.
Noticed that my CohUpdater did not have .exe extension. When I renamed it to CohUpdater.exe I no longer got error message but instead keep getting endless attempts to connect.
Any ideas?

Can someone OFFICIAL tell the europeans what to do for the EU. Now I've followed the advice on thnis thread and it doesn't do anything. I am not pleased, if something works don't change it. Especially for the weekend!
The thing is guys, it's not ALL users.
I'm on Vista and my updater updated fine. I've not had to change anything.
If after following both "fixes" you still can't get it working, go to your CoH folder location then delete every copy of the updater (EU, US .prv etc) as well as the CityofHeroes.exe.
Then download a new Updater from Here (This is the EU version) Save it to desktop then run it. Point it to your current CoH folder and let it do it's thing.
That should then be back to normal.

Hmm, both Test and Live take a few seconds to 'Check Updater' with me, before shutting, re-opening and working fine for me. *shrug*
It's a tad wierd though.

Test nor live would load for me, they wanted to chance exe to prv.

I am on Vista too and it is still not running. I don't understand why they changed it in the first place, everything was fine this morning, now i am back from work and I cannot play. What can I do so I can play? Ive deleted the .prv file, made sure I only got cohUpdater.EU.exe in my folder. And I still cannot play because the game. The updater doesn't get further than connecting!

EU player on Win XP Home.
Shine, check what Ynni suggested.
I've just Team viewed a couple of friends as they were having problems. Renaming the updater to .exe is what causes the updater to stick at connecting.
Also noticed that Vista 64bit allows the download to desktop without issue yet 32bit didn't. Seems there's a more than one problem.
