What is your "panic button" power?
Phase and Hibernate.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Hmm, my panic buttons.
Well on my fire blaster... I have none. I just do as much damage that I can then well, press my Rise of the Phoenix. I don't mind using it as part of an attack chain.
But if I manage to hit any button outside an attack button, I guess Eye of the Magus. It may delay me using Rise of the Phoenix.
On my emp/sonic defender, well I guess its Dreadful wail. Just got to get into the habit of using it or any of the temp powers like Eye og the Magus aswell.

About the best I've got on my main is Strength of Will, and if I'm expecting a tough fight at the outset, that'll be on cooldown by the time I need a panic button.
Willpower does have that delightul feature of a power which massively increases your regen if you're being mobbed (Rise to the Challenge), so it sort of has an auto-panic mode.

I would have to go with "Assemble the Team".
Nothing mitigates self damage quite like providing the enemies a bunch of new things to kill instead of me.
Self-Destruct.
We've all been there... The battle is going poorly. Perhaps you underestimated your opponents or had a run of bad luck. Either way, your health bar is leaking like a sieve and you'll probably be dead in 15 seconds. What do you do?
For example, my energy/devices blaster has two "panic button" powers. When he's getting pounded, he may use Power Push to get the enemy bruiser away from him. If there are multiple foes, he may cast Caltrops on his own position to "persuade" the baddies to leave the area. What about your characters(s)? |
All of my toons have 4 universal panic buttons. F1, F2, F3, and F4. Column 5 of my inspirations starts with an Awaken and Break Free at the bottom, so is no use in combat. Pop F3 once or twice to grab 25-66% more defence, depending on what I'm carrying in the slots, F2 if I need endurance, and F1 to refill health. F4's either more purples or a purple/orange mixture. Once the situation stabilises (and yes, face down counts as stabilised) then carry on as required.
As a little experiment, try this - Designate two slots at the top of Column 5 in your insp tray as 'insta-burn'. Any insps that appear there get activated immediately. Not saved for a rainy day, not hoarded because they 'look so pretty' just burn them (unless they'd upgrade your 'stock' of insps to a higher tier, i.e. you just got a Phenomenal Luck dropped off a boss, swap it with a Good Luck in your 'stock' and pop the Good Luck). Right Click and hit 'D' on any awakens you get. It's sometimes astounding how much easier this can make things in the general flow of combat. Can add a little variety to combat, too

The above post may contain Cynicism, sarcasm and/or pessimism. If you object to the quantities contained, then tough.
Self Destruction is my default.
If i have a more relevant power available, such as a phase, i'll use that, but otherwise it's Self Destruction time.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
I eat as many reds and yellows as possible then Self-Destruct baby!
● Hibernate
● Ethereal Shift
● Eye of the Magus
● Wedding Band
● Elusive Mind + Vanguard Psionic Shield (if they're psi baddies)
● Freakshow Disguise (and cross my fingers)
● Rest (in my panic, I've used this by accident a few times)

If they deny my most likely smoldering half-corpse, then at least I'll be a zombie. A flying, ghostly zombie.
On my main, it's Granite. The only time I regularly toggle-on Granite is when I'm actually tanking the Hamidon; in almost any other situation, PSLAnimal's regular shields make him more than tough enough.
Granite is the "oh, s**t" fallback mode.
Inferno, pop a blue, Self Destruct, Rise of the Phoenix.
If I'm going down I'm taking you with me! And then getting back up to laugh at you!
I use my Panic Button of course*
/macro Panic "powexec_name Fly$$++autorun$$++UP"
Most frequently Self-Destruct. Depending on specific characters there may be other powers involved as well or instead, such as PFF or other similar stuff.
For my Blasters, if I decided to take it, the Nuke. Baddies are everywhere, players are losing health at phenomenal rates, and we're getting struck by a fully powered ambush... BOOM! Baddies are dead, and the Tanks and Scrappers get to work mopping up what few survivors are there.
For my Tankers, Scrappers and Brutes, it's the Tier 9 (where applicable). I usually try NOT to pop it, because those crashes are nasty (even if it's not like Unstoppable, I'm still dropping all my toggles, and if there are enemies nearby, I'm going to lose CHUNKS of health). I still haven't had a chance to use MoG yet (which I don't like the "fifteen seconds of fun"), but I'm hoping it measures up.
Now, for unusual Panic Buttons, one of my /Invuln Scrappers has the Rikti Psychic Defense, which I've found is actually very useful against heavily psychic enemies like the Carnies.
I also set up Inspiration "cocktails," a stack of Defense, Resistance, Damage and Accuracy, Tier 2 or Tier 3 (Tier 3 preferred), one of each. When in a troublesome or challenging battle, I repeatedly strike the stack's button (usually F1 or F2) until all the Inspirations are activated. Bam, one minute of boosted capability.
My Stories
Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.
Fifteen seconds and the green bar's no longer green?
Four Lucks[1]. Failing that (and never being a Tanker it may), the Go To Hospital button, and another taste of that sinking realisation that, being a Whappen, I'll never figure out what my mistake was to learn from it. Possibly with strong language. (Aside from trying to use Rain of Arrows while the three minions are aggro'd. That only work sometimes.)
Panic button powers? Pffft. Not a chance! I move the HP bar to the bottom middle of the screen just to notice when I'm damaged. Something like Unstoppable with a multi-minute recharge? I'll forget it's there! (Except for one of my Brutes, who seemingly lives and dies on teams by Demonic.) And I hoard temp powers out of habit.
If I did not know bit after the colon, I'd never be able to use the power on time to help me:
- Caltrops: On every spawn. (Like Tar Patch and Build Up, it tends to be ready.)
- Dull Pain: At half HP. (If your set has Dull Pain, your life is tied to its existence! You WILL take Hasten. You WILL [REDACTED] With SOs, you'll probably live through the downtime period.)
- Power Surge: When teamed, presuming there's a firefight, whenever it's up. The Cimerorans can chop you to bits inside Power Surge, never mind outside.

Often it's Self Destruct, for the obvious reasons. I tend to use it more during the lower levels.
On some toons it's Ninja Run to see if I can get lucky and outrun them; works about 50% of he time as I'm usually too stubborn to try and leave before it's too late.
On my Bots/Dark MM it's usually Dark Servant. I've slotted my Fluffy for a good set bonus rather than recharge so I tend to not use him at all until I hit the final (often Boss) objective, just to make sure I have him at the ready when that time comes. But if things are going poorly for me, say I've lost a few bots, I feel justified in bringing him out early.
Dull Pain. Although it's usually less of a 'panic button' and more of an 'oh no I'm almost dead... *Dull Pain*... nah, just kidding I guess I'll start attacking now' sadistic button.

The beauty of this solution is that it's not limited to any AT or powerset. If I play a toon a lot and think it's worth the effort, I can get it. On most characters, getting killed isn't a big deal. However, my main (a scrapper) has it, plus all of my tanks, plus my first defender.

I play squishies who don't have much defense to speak of, so my "oh crap" buttons are Eye of the Magus + Elusive Mind. I slot for recharge, so they are usually up in about 7-8 minutes.
