Would have been nice if they put UM up on Test today >.> Then while we are all snowed in, we could be testing the heck out of it.

I'm in NoVA, and loving the snow. Looks like we have about 4 inches now, on our way to 2 feet.

I've been taking a break from CoH, but the fact that I can't do anything will keep me in-game more than I planned. I have a few other things planned that don't require going outside, but they are all in preparation from a business presentation on Tuesday morning, and that may not happen if we can't dig out fast enough!

This has been driving me nuts. Denver this year was off to a nice cold and snowy start but then about Jan 10th or so it all stopped. Our last snow fell just before Christmas and the time of year (Jan 10th) when we normally experience our coldest temperatures, we were in the 50s and dry as a bone. And this effectivly has yet to change as well.

So I cast a bolded bah humbug! on this thread as I love winter weather! GIVE IT BAAAAAACK!!!

I am In the same area(and am restraining myself from inserting the Pennsylvania regionalism/verbal nightmare that is yins, it is like the Lovecraftian version of y'all) but made an early pass at the walkways earlier, but i suspect tomorrow morning is going to be badly snowed in. this was a case where working only 4 10 hour days a week worked to my favor, driving in this nonsense at 3 am would be...unpleasant.

got a good bit of mass effect 2 done today, however.

I had the unfortunate experience of having to drive through a blizzard in DC once. My sister was due to give a presentation at some industry conference at a hotel. I almost had to ditch my car in the middle of the street. I saw no evidence of plowing on even the main streets. Luckily, I had a little folding military surplus shovel in the trunk. I practically dug my way to the hotel.

While watching the news at the hotel, I saw the Governor of Maryland saying they had all of their 1500 snow plows out trying to clear the roads. For comparison, on a different channel, the Mayor of New York City was saying he had 1800 snow plows out with another several hundred trucks that they could attach plows to if necessary. A couple of days after the blizzard ended, we left the hotel. The side streets still hadn't been plowed, but the main streets were. Not a great job though. I didn't see a clean road until we hit the highway.

Snow, big deal. Every year we get that stuff.

"All y'all" is a fine old Southern usage that is merely more expansive than a simple "y'all". "Y'all might referto the two or three people there in front of you, but "all y'all" means "including your friends and family".
So in short, "all y'all" is the plural of "y'all".

side note: I think one of the most charmingly humorous points to living in the South is to see transplanted Yankees, er, Northerners, and even foreigners start unconsciously using "y'all" after about 3 months here.

Now if all y'all will excuse me, I gotta go git a moonpie and an RC, or maybe one of them orange coke colers.

I wonder....what is this 'snow' you speak of? All I see out my window are blue skies and feel the soft warm summer breeze....

*runs like heck*

No need to run. It's cold outside, and I'm not going out there to chase you down, which probably would involve a very, very long swim.

SO JEALOUS.

I am also in Canada (but on the opposite side of the country). We've had enough show this year that I had to sweep (not shovel) the sidewalk at work twice since October. Even though I'm smack in the middle of the Rockies, I haven't even seen snow on the mountaintops for a few weeks.

Interesting. I'm getting snow over here in Eastern Europe, too. It started some time last night and it's gotten to be about... A couple of centimetres, I think. I'm kind of in the low lands, but even the mountain passes are mostly clear and some are even dry. It's snowing right now, but I doubt it'll stack up. I haven't seen more than 10 centimetres of snow here in 20 years.

As far as "all-a y'all," maybe I have an odd-man-out perspective on this, being a foreign speaker of English coming from a language that not only do we have plurals for all personal pronouns, but we actually have gender on our nouns. I know I've never really had trouble picking out whether "you" referred to a single person or multiple people, as context pretty much always explains, and even when it does, it rarely actually matters. Even here on the forums, I've rarely seen it mistaken.

About the only thing that has managed to confuse me is that English (and American) last names don't have gender suffixes, so a Dr. Dimitrov (a male last name, by the way) could just as easily end up being a man as a woman, which tends to be played with in movies.

NE Ohio here have at least 18" of snow,I'm not going out to measure it.Warm and snug in my condo, gonna be a CoX day for sure.

Now if the snowplow guys get their butts here to clean the roads, wife took the Husky out to play in it,and then took the 2 Corgi's out to play in it.

All I could see of the Corgi's were their ears....

Now just wondering how my ******* daughter is gonna make it home today because her social life is apparently more important then the common sense rule of "don't go driving in a snow storm"....kids these days.

Try central PA, where we say youns.

Also, it seems everyone south of the Mason-Dixon line is addressed as friend until you know them. As in, "Hello, friend. How are you?"

Well, "Y'all" is one of the distinctives of English as spoken in the southern United States, so it triggers a bit of fun in both directions with the northern folks in the US.

Perhaps there is probably some equivalent expression in South Wales? (The only reason I would mention such an area is the designation of the 24th Regiment of Foot as the "South Wales Borderers" in the past.)

My wife, raised mostly in North Carolina, introduced me to another facet of "y'all" -- its use as an adjective, as in, "Y'all boys come in to eat!"

I know someone from Dallas who is currently in New Zealand, and he reports that the Kiwis think "y'all" is great. They were also utterly bemused by "We'll get you all fixed up" and "I am fixing to go." Likewise, he enjoys "I've got to get this sorted out" which would be "figured out" in the States, and "Go Mum's way" which would roughly be "Behave and/or be careful" (like your mother would want). He also introduced us to the All Blacks' haka, which really resonated here in the States. I think international vernacular and customs are just dang cool (which the Kiwis also thought was a wonderful expression.)

Here in the States, I also enjoy the various regional differences. I have to call to Wisconsin regularly, and I enjoy getting them to give me a negative response using those great mid-western long O's: "Ooooo nooooooo, we don't have that."

Everyone keep warm and go Mum's way!

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
