Snow ice cream!

That's my plan for the day.

My area is buried. All of the interstates in this part of PA at least are closed.

I live in Ken-tuck-ay (that is the correct pronunciation ) and I got about a foot of snow. Maybe an inch or two less. And more on the way.

And to bring up a conversation that was mentioned on the first page. "Ya'll" is commonly used down here in the South as a contraction of "ya" (meaning you) and "all." It is only correctly used when referring to a group of people. Calling a single person "ya'll" is a very clear indicator that the speaker has no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Anyway, that clears up all that.

Due to the weather, I got two days off from my college teaching gig just as dual pistols went beta. Life is sweet.

I'm in Indiana, so I have to listen to many of my fellow Hoosiers exercising their natural bordering-state-antipathy towards folks in Kentucky by mocking a Southern accent. I love to point out that most folks in our state south of Indianapolis speak the same way (so does my family, most of whom originally came up from Kentucky and Tennessee).

Heck, I myself say "ya'll" to my classes all the time.

Schools in Philadelphia were closed yesterday and they're closed today. Work was open yesterday, but the hotline they have set up to see if it's open told us to "use your best judgement" to decide whether or not to go in. So I stayed home yesterday.

Work was open as usual today, but I couldn't make it even though they expect us to, because while most buses here are running today, the one I take to get to work isn't. Unfortunately, I didn't find that out until I'd spent almost 40 minutes waiting for it. So I'm staying home again today, posting here with a cup of hot cocoa at my side to help me recover from spending so much time outside for nothing.

The government reopened today in downtown Washington, DC. People were allowed to take personal leave if they chose. I decided that the failure of my county bus system and the closure of aboveground Metro stations meant that the commute wasn't really ready after all, and stayed home.

Sure enough, a Metro train derailed and bollixed up the commute for everyone. No serious injuries reported, and not the line I would have been on, but it no doubt cascaded backups through the system. Saved by my own cynicism!

Greetings from Baltimore where we got 4 1/2 feet of snow in the last week. I've spent a LOT of time shoveling. The roads range from okay to absolutely horrible. It's going to be 2 weeks, according to officials, before things return to normal. Blech. At least we didn't lose power like some.
