Eh.
Eventually you recognize names, versus post counts. Of course, in some of those instances, the fact they *are* the go-to people leads to more posts from them, so that can be a bit of a circular situation. ![]() |
The thing that always makes me go "Hmmmmm" is the folks that are in the 15,000 to 20,000 posts category. Think about it. How many times a day would someone have to be on to achieve such an event? I am not really sure when the actual forums started if it was from the inception of CoH 2004'ish or later? If it was later then that's "really" amazing.
I know that if someone really gets involved in a post by commenting back and forth, that the total number of that persons posts will grow exponentially. So, unless someone doesn't do this for a living or just sits in front of their computer all day, how is it possible? Look at it like this: Lets say the forums did start-up in 2004. We'll say five years or 365 days x 5yrs. = 1825 days. If someone has over 20,000 posts, that's roughly an average of 11 posts per day! 11 x 365 = 4015 per yr. 4015 x 5 yrs. = 20,075 posts! |
Keep in mind that the mods have publicly stated that reputation is "a game" on these forums, which is why I have mine disabled... because it doesn't really mean anything.

I am sure that there are a few posters like me here as well. There was a time that I only posted to ask questions. As my search skills increased I found that many of my answers were already here and I had no need to post the question.
Anymore I post to chat with friends or give an opinion. I don't even look at post count anymore as I can tell by the name posting if the information is good or not. I have respect for posters like Arcana, Cat, and Memphis based on the game knowledge I have gained just from reading their posts.
As it happens, they also have a high post count.

I didn't make the list? I thought we were friends! *cries!.. lol j/k man. I spend my time here trying to help people too, but I haven't been here nearly as long as they have.
PS - tell KK I said hi. :P |
I used to post a fair amount to call out stupidity, but a while back, I realized that the developers (thank goodness) don't listen to those people anyway, so I stopped bothering.
Now, I usually only post when I have something to say about the Paragon Wiki/Titan Network.
If I had to pick people I put a lot of faith in, I'd rank Memphis_Bill and Aett_Thorn up there. I like Fleeting Whisper's posts, he's a smart and helpful guy. I like Catwhoorg a lot because he has helped out a ton with the Paragon Wiki. (And he's one of the few people here I've met in person. ) I'm also a fan of Aggelakis, too, she's helped out a ton with the wiki also.
If I ever reach the level of "Forum Cartel," I think I'm going to ask to have it changed to "Wiki Wonk" or something. I hate that title, because it implies that they're part of a clique or something. (Which, to be fair, some of them are, but it's not as bad as it used to be, thank goodness.)
As for Cuppa Incarnate... Ugh. For those of you who have come here in the past, gosh, over three years now, CuppaJo was the original community rep. She had a bunch of leechy followers that would post what I call "nom nom" replies--nonsensical fawning messages--to all of her posts. I liked her okay and thought she did a good job, but jeez, people. Anyway, for a long while while she was here and after she left, this "Cuppa" theme was pushed, which is where that title came from. If I recall correctly, the first person who actually reached 20,000 posts got to pick it, and that's what they picked. I don't know who it was, and I'd just as soon leave it that way in case they're still around.
If they've gotten rid of that title, then thank god. I think that if it were still around, if I ever got there, I'd just stop posting forever when I got one shy.

The unique title did not survive the forums transfer, which is sad. I miss GA's Postmaster General title and it was easy enough to locate people like the PERC Reps and such.
Some have already been mentioned and some have not, but my list of people who's post carry more weight than others are Memphis_Bill, Aett_Thorn, FatherXmas, Arcanaville, Zombie_Man, BillZBubba, and Fleeting Whisper just to name a few.
Bill pretty much said it the best.
Eventually you recognize names, versus post counts. There are some names that, if they say something on a subject, it's the fact it's *them* saying it versus "They have X many posts" that make me give it any more (or less, in the case of some, like power_na) consideration. Otherwise - it's by what I'm seeing in the body of the post, not that column to the left.

Really? I made a similar Villain:
Baconmonkey');DROP TABLE Heroes;-- What are the odds? |
To be fair, due to that last little bit of "they also happen to have a high post count" you don't fit in that grouping, MB>

Oh yeah? I just created another hero, who's name is:
Son of Foomonkey');INSERT INTO Villains ('global_name', 'character_name') VALUES ('Kheldarn', 'Barney Dino Fan');-- |
Even if I don't particularly *like* someone, if I know they've got the experience, I'll take their word. (Snowglobe and I don't get along, particularly, for instance - on the other hand, I've got a friendly rivalry with EvilGeko.) By the way, even if a moderator deletes your posts... they still count. Your post count will never be REDUCED. Hell, I don't think the mods can even manually reset people's post counts.

Yeah, I'll agree with this. I have some strong opinions, but I'm more open to ideas than some would give me credit for.
