Purple Drop Fiction/Facts
As far as I know, it's mobs that are 50+
I've never had a Purple drop to date. It still annoys me. It also means I dont know.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

-Enemies must be level 50 or > for purples - FALSE
-Enemies must be level 47 or > for purples - TRUE (if they drop level 50 commons, they can drop purples)
-Enemies with higher difficulty are more likely to drop rares/purples - Generally FALSE, but it could be they bump into the 47+ zone
-Difficulty has no effect on rare/purple drops as long as the groups are 50+ (true if you swap to 47+
The only thing that chnages drop rates is critter type. Minion, Lt, Boss

Purples will drop from enemies, and only enemies. The enemy in question must be capable of dropping a level 50 recipe, which means it must be level 47 or higher. Nothing changes the rate of drops that are purple, but enemy rank changes the total rate of drops.
In other words: Lieutenants are more likely to drop recipes than minions, and bosses are more likely to drop recipes than lieutenants; every recipe that any of them drops has an equal chance of being purple, provided they are capable of dropping level 50 recipes in the first place.
This may be a slight oversimplification of the process, but it's basically how it works.

Ok, I REALLLLY need to share this information with you all. No BS. literally, i have done 3 runs in set for 8 in the past few days have have gotten 4/3 yes 4/3 meanings 4 purples 3 runs...Wow. But yes the information is extremely useful guys. Thanks. Would still love more input only because i have heard all of this before some from veterans that you guys say is false.
Cat is absolutely correct. All of this information can be independently verified on the wiki, by other players, or by rednames if needed.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I'll support the "Cat is correct" trend. If you look through the market forum there have been several threads that attempted to quantify drop rates and such based on people's log data.
K good! Knew you guys could help! Really appreciate! And to celebrate im gonna sell my purp recipes on the market for a discounted price of trillion inf a piece!

i get about 2 purples per hour.
>.> I am set to 5 people at +1's...
I just think the purple gods like me more than they like you.
When I work toward purples, I generally run at -1/x8, and on average I've been getting 1 purple per play session (during play seesions when I'm trying for purples); my play sessions are usually 4-5 hours long, though they're occasionally longer.

The information given above is all correct.

Hmm, I guess somebody is siphoning off all of my purple luck.
I've gotten a total of 2 (count 'em 2) purples EVER.
(Well, I guess 3 if you count the one contagious confusion proc that I BOUGHT from WW).
6000+ levels gained and 8 level 50's
Hello, my name is Soulwind and I have Alt-Itis.
To clarify part of what I've read here. So a lvl 47 and lvl 50 mob have the exact same chances to drop a recipe and same chances of that recipe being purple and the ONLY thing that effects it is the mobs rank?
So in theory the quickest way to farm recipes is to set difficulty to -1/+8 and go on a killing spree?
Edit: the above is assuming a lvl 50 toon.
Global @radubadu
Usually playing one of the following toons blueside on Virtue:
Cadler 50 WP/SS tanker
Radubadu 46 Fire/Fire blaster
Hell Runner 35 Fire/Fire brute
Since I started counting, and counting for both heroside/redside: 27 purples. I started counting about a year ago.
Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!

On the one hand, a boss has about an 8% chance to drop a recipe and each time one drops there is a 1:500-5000 (according to wiki) chance that recipe will be purple.
On the other hand, NOT fighting bosses should mean you mow through mobs faster. So if you can kill 3 minions (each with a 2.7% chance to drop a recipe) faster than 1 boss, do you come out ahead on the chances for a purple?
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!

I got four purples in one night.
Out of the six or so I've ever gotten.
Random is random.

I've only gotten 2 ever. Then again, I spend almost no time at level 50... keep playing at the lower levels when I do play... so yeah.

This isn't 100% about purples but recipes in general. Here is the main question. What affects purple/rare drops.
Here are some of the contradictory answers I have gotten.
-Nothing
-Enemies must be level 50 or > for purples
-Enemies must be level 47 or > for purples
-Enemies with higher difficulty are more likely to drop rares/purples.
-Difficulty has no effect on rare/purple drops as long as the groups are 50+
What is true?! I have no official word on the matter so I am depending on you guys.
