War Witch the New Lead, Content is King for 2010
Jump for joy?
Gratz to WW and GF on the promotions, but one thing worries me: it sounds like Posi's End Game project will come out after GR is released. I thought GR was suposed to have some end game elements...

I wouldn't call it weird. For one, this could be like a little getaway for Posi, where he can have fun messing around and designing new content - away from all the big decision kind of stuff. Maybe when he is done, they will switch around again. Or he could move on to another game entirely and he is hanging around to help WW transition. All kinds of thoughts.
MG - I would think there would never be a true "end game" for an MMO game. The devs got to keep making something to keep us coming back. GR could be the first parts of the end game to build on.
Just rambling now until my coffee kicks in - mmmmm, coffee...
I'm not one to usually jump on timelimes, and this is the first time in ~6 years I've said this for this game, but this is ridiculous that this isn't out now. Or at least well into beta.
I've still not seen or read anything that has gotten my actual interest

Okay. To repeat what I've said in couple posts: YOU ARE MOVING THE DEVELOPMENT OF GOING ROGUE UP BY WEEKS, IF NOT MONTHS.
We, that's us, the player base, the people typing on these forums, were not supposed to know about Going Rogue until Fourth Quarter 2009, with the big reveal probably having been planned for HeroCon 2009.
The only reason we know about Going Rogue is that somebody working in a third party marketing screwed up. A mass email was sent out long before Paragon Studios or NCSoft were ready to talk about the game. Rather than simply trying to hide the topic, Paragon Studios and NCSoft simply bit a bullet, and put up the information about what they knew they'd be doing in the expansion.
That DOES NOT MEAN that the Going Rogue feature list or content list was by any means complete. Rather, giving the timing of development, it's not likely that the content of the game was going to be finalized until Forth Quarter 2009. Again, that was placing the determinations about what Going Rogue would have, and what it would not have around the time of HeroCon.
That also doesn't mean that the content, maps, textures, artwork, polygon build, sprites, NPC AI routines and everything else was done by HeroCon. Rather, lets look at City of Villains. The game was announced in April of 2007, and shipped in October 2007, so about 6 to 7 months.
If we assume a 6 to 7 month lead in from the intended Q4 announcement, the expansion is right on schedule for where it should be.
So your little two cents isn't two cents. It's not even a half pence of NOT PAYING ATTENTION. Get your timeline and your expectations straight. Now, if we hit 6 months from October, and there's still no open or closed beta, then you can bring up your two cents about no beta being ridiculous.
Thank you for your input. Your 2 cents.
Now go back, reread, get some history of my past stance on a bunch of stuff (I've been here a long time), and maybe, just maybe, gleam into the notion that GR is the ONLY THING GOING TO BE ADDED TO THE GAME since I16. How long has that been now? How much longer is it going to be?
Not supposed to know about it? You go ahead and believe that all you want. I won't even go into the business ramifications of not having something solid in time for quarterly reports.
And the corollary point is that, regardless of the time table and regardless of the information that IS known, none of it STILL doesn't really have me interested.
So now, we have something coming at some point I'm not really interested in, and NOTHING ELSE being added to the game until then. Maybe I need to highlight that what I stated is AN OPINION OF MY OWN though I don't think even big, flashing text would have sunk that in for you.
So yes, my 2 cents are exactly that. If you care to "pay attention", I quoted the word "thoughts", and gave my 2 cents based on that word in regard to the subject at hand.
Back to lurking for you!

I find post #22 in this thread interesting. The conjecture is they are gearing up for a whole new game, which I find the timing of the post and Posi's "promotion" to be eerily coincidental.

I dunno about the graphics update. I know that the game hasn't changed looks much in the last few years, blah blah blah, but when it comes time for me to select my graphics settings, I keep finding that I'd rather run with highest possible fps no matter how bad the graphics are, so long as I have plenty of space to see around my hud, and particle count is high enough to see what I need to, like fire cages.
IMHO, it is far more useful to me to quad log than it is to run in high detail.

That is crazy. Eerily crazy.

Eh, the merits and demerits of a new game have been argued to death. From background actions on the devs, and those other merits/demerits, I think there is a lot more traction to just updating the game they have. They've already upgraded the game in a lot of ways, and the new graphical update is more proof that they're going that route.
They can, of course, tell us tomorrow (ha, yeah right) that they have a new expansion in the works, and prove me wrong. I really do doubt it, though.
From the little of Going Rogue we've seen, what they said at Herocon, and War Witch's interview, they're solidly stoked to keep revamping this game. Which is what I like to hear- that's the approach I prefer.
And I guess Posi wanted to focus on creating stuff, from the posts he's put out since this announcement. Which makes sense.
Still can't believe they didn't give us more Going Rogue info, though. This info doesn't help that impatience at all. I don't want to hear that "we have fun things planned," I want to hear specifics about what we'll see next: not in the "next couple weeks," but this week. I do want it to be quality, of course, but we need more new stuff... ASAP. And the news even sooner.
*added*
Well, it's not huge, but War Witch did post a picture of a resistance member from Going Rogue. New map tileset and costume stuff, so that's nice.

how many lead disesigners has WOW gone threw?
I'm counting at least 3...Rob Pardo, Jeff Kaplan, and Tom Chilton.
Voo is right... GR is going to blow. GG has me convinced.
Side-switching, new lvl 1 - 20 content, some nebulous end-game content, and the two new sets. Issue 17 should be free.

Wow... so... we're going to assume 100% that's it only what they've commented on so far, even though they have said they can't discuss everything and they've been working on this for a long time (and all signals point to them being very busy right now)? That's stretching my engrained Nordic pessimism too far.
At worst, I don't know what else they're going to have. To say that's it (side-switching, two ATs, 1-20 in Praetoria) seems to be stretching it too far. That speaks completely against the evidence we have from their comments on GR, and from their past behavior.
Heck, in that screenshot of War Witch's, we have evidence more is being done than was shown at Herocon already. Goodness, I'm all for skepticism, pessimism, and thinking things through, but this is taking it too far. Cheer up a bit.

Of course, this isn't to say that they can't add more GR content as time goes on, but I was hoping for something a little more from the expansion.

a) I didn't say that.

Yeah, I'm not sure what strange powers Golden Girl used to convince MG so strongly. As I said in that other thread, MG, Golden is talking like things are 100%, when much of it is guesswork. Guesswork is fun and all at one level, but getting too worked up over it is never a good idea.
As if the devs didn't know that enough already, it's another strong reason they need to start putting GR info out. That way people can waste their energy talking about what will be, rather than what their wildest dreams or nightmares call for.

In a slightly weird move, Positron has moved to working on CoX's new endgame system and other ultra secret projects, and War Witch is now the new lead designer. Weird, as that seems like a demotion for Posi... but good that he's still around, I guess. And War Witch has done good work, so that's pretty good too.
Anyway, I like the interview over on mmorpg.com, apparently content is going to be king for Going Rogue and the update after it (which they're already working on). Music to my ears, that. Thoughts?
