Post you "Real Life" remindings of CoH

Case #1:
Last night I decide to watch some late night TV. I'm not much of a TV watcher but the Conan/NBC War has me hooked. After Conan, I switched to some local channel and left it there (because I like to have some other audio in the background when I'm playing CoH.)

As I am playing villainside, suddenly my head goes numb as I'm trying to figure out what the heck is happening. I'm in Port Oakes, heading toward Marconeville, when I hear the music for Blyde Square (heroside) popup. Immediately I think that there is some sort of invasion. Then I realize it's heroside music, so I start to think that there was some error in the game files. Then I realize my ingame music volume is off.

I look at the TV and I hear, "Call now for Rhode Island's hottest singles line..."

I knew that some music was licensed from a production company, but the Blyde Square theme threw me for a loop.

Case #2:
A couple of hours later, I'm still playing, but half asleep. A commercial for a "male enhancement" plays. The woman asks, "Do you need help enhancing your stamina?"

I immediately respond with, while half asleep, "Nope. I've got a full set of Performance Shifter's slotted. I'm set."

When I heard myself say that, I knew it was time to call it a night.

I used to work at a cemetary, and I realized that the tops of urns (markers for those who have been cremated) look exactly like badge markers.

I found myself on several occasions adjusting my mowing path to pass by as many of them as possible.

That's pretty funny!

Mine is pretty simple, there was once a cartoon about it in the player-made paper... thingy... about the game... I can't recall the title right now.

Anyways, I walk right past the local courthouse going to work and they have a plaque set out in front of the building's grounds next to the sidewalk. It looks just like one of the history ones around the game. I think about six months into playing this game one day I happened to walk by it again and suddenly my gamer's sense was tingling, "must...click..."

I run across these things all the time. I've thought about starting a thread like this.

I work in downtown Washington, DC. Every morning when I get on the elevator to the Metro (subway), I press a button that says "Mezz" (for mezzanine level).

My work involves lots of documents that mention Tanks (storage) which are usually on farms (tank farms) and radiation, almost always abbreviated as Rad., and sometimes shields (radiation shielding).

I will look around next time I'm at work and try to find some more.

Similarly, I once walked up to a plaque to touch it, then realized I could read it without doing so.

When I worked in Washington, D.C., I'd see a lot of protestors on the streets and feel I was overlooking something. After a while, I realized that I was looking for the giant, ghostly miner in their midst.

a while ago a music video by the singer alicia keys reminded me of coh, due to a superhero them to it(they did seem to be going for hancock more though) where she seems to use healing superpowers, a motorcycle with a superspeed-like trail, and a flashy version of superjump. I got a giggle when she heals a dog with a purple aura power, my first thought was that she was using empathy powers with a purple customization job.

Is it a coincidence that Paragon is located in Rhode Island?
You should have called the number and asked for Ms. Liberty.

My job includes airing tv commercials. We had a series of travel ads for Croatia. Every time I looked at the screen, I swore it said "Croatoa."

This is actually something I've been doing in my whole history of MMORPGing, and really started to notice back when I was heavily into FFXI.

I keep track of "Zone Boundaries" where I live. For example, I live on the southern slope of a pretty big hill. Near the top of the hill, my city officially ends and the next city north of it begins. That's a Zone Boundary. There's a Carl's Jr. right at the top of the hill that's about half a mile from me, and another south into my "Current Zone" that's about three miles away, and I instinctively go to the one farther away rather than cross that boundary.

Further south, there's a bridge crossing some railroad tracks, beyond which is a mall, a Costco, a movie theater and a Wal Mart. The bridge constitutes the southern Zone Boundary. To the west, within the same Zone as my apartment, there's a similar cluster of mall, movie theater, etc. It's about a mile and a half further away, but since it's still in the same Zone as my Home Base, it gets preferential treatment.

Looking at the small map of my local universe, I'm starting to realise how much of my Zone Boundaries are actually influenced by local bus routes (I'm a terrible driver, and keep my car in the garage as a service to my fellow human beings unless there's a really pressing need)... but some of the boundaries are wholly irrational. For example, there's a strip downtown with a lot of fast food, the juncture of several major roads, and the main local freeway exit. Traffic is always horrible there, but as I'm more frequently on foot, that doesn't actually slow me down any. The pedestrian crosswalks will operate on the same timer whether or not the streets are full of vehicles. Even so, I habitually avoid the area as unacceptably "Laggy", much like the crossroads overlapping the Cap Au Diable Black Market.

And finally, there are only a few local shops that I recognize as "real". The Carls Jr. is "real", because I eat there all the time. The McDonalds across the street from it? For all I know, if I clicked on the door it would tell me I can't enter... or the interior would actually turn out to be a bank or a cave or something. I just have a hard time accepting the fact that it's got an interior, with people working there or going in to obtain food, even when I can see them right through the windows. That's just an illusion, like how a city street full of NPCs doesn't mean there's that many players on. If they're willingly eating at the McDonalds, they can't be real people, can they?

When I go into a bank the music from CoV's heist missions usually starts running through my head.

While daydreaming at work I have worked out which members of my team would be the tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 MM pets.

There is a Malta Rd. near my house. Every time I walk by I keep expecting to see a robot shooting missiles at me from down the street.

My daughter has a ball that looks like a Hamidon Goo. She doesn't like us calling it that, she's not at the point yet in her gaming career where she understands the invention system.

I know I'm not the only one that has touched plaques and expected to get a badge.

But my worst experience was one time when I was really tires and I was walking around... when I noticed I was "typing" the "WASD" keys in the air to move around. I fit my fingers in the air just like I do on the keyboard. It was kind of freaky.

And also, because of CoH my permanent typing position for my fingers is to have my left hand ALWAYS on the "WASD" keys, with my thumb on the space bar, and my right hand on the mouse. Every. Single. Time. I can't help it any more. So this game has LITERALLY altered the way I do things in my day-to-day life.

Yep. My city has streets called King's Row and Skyway. The worst "reminding" I've had was reflexively letting off the gas and leaning back while driving into a tunnel. I later realized I did it because I was waiting for the loading screen to come up while I switched zones.

I think it's time to get some sleep.

Every time I hear "Video Killed the Radio Star" I think of the Television in Grandville.

I once reffered to M&M's as Inspirations.
