Most/Least fun powers
Fire Imps make the best entrance of any pets, with their gleeful pirouettes as they pop out of the ground. The Flytrap, however, easily gets the award for best death scene. Stumble to the left, stumble to the right, legs tremble, shake vines at the Heavens aaaaaaand you're dead. Flytrap is the Troy McClure of pets.
Bots make a pretty good entrance, too. I could watch them unpack from those crates over and over again.
Lamest pet entrance:
A tie between Thugs and Jack. What the hell was that guy doing in the sewers, anyway?
I'd put Singy on this list too, but he/she/it's got enough PR problems.
Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
I'd give it to the Mercs Spec Ops. My buddy nearly had a stroke the first time I summoned them right after CoV came out. Running around trying to attack the freaking ninjas dropping in on us.
Good times.
Most fun:
Anything with knockback. Crane Kick, Force Bolt, Propel, Lift, they never get old for me.
Gang War is fun, especially if you let it off by accident, pressing the wrong key. I've done that.
Deceive/Confuse: Even without the fancy tricks of confusing Force Field Generators or Tsoo Sorcerors, this power just rocks. Its a hold on steroids with bonuses.
Ive really enjoyed Hide and Assassin Strike on my first Stalker. Its much more fun that I thought it would be.
Powers like Soul Drain, Fulcrum Shift and Drain Psyche are fun because they steer you into playing risky minigames that revolve around how many enemies you can survive in close range to get the best buff.
Least fun:
Fortitude. Having to watch this buff for when it comes up, and remember who's next in line so you can carefully balance it out over 5 people or whatever your slotting allows. Gahh! Its a great power but a real pain to maintain if you're also trying to do other things like attack or control.
Phantom Army.
The uptime ratio, even with good slotting, means I'm somehow always worrying about this power. Is it up yet? Is it about to go down? And when it is up, its not especially fun. The pets do their own thing, no one attacks me or the team, and I'm just watching and hoping they dont fade soon. Or having fun with Deceive.
I will get an Illusionist past 26 one of these days. I keep trying...
In the old days I used to love playing hellion hockey in Perez park on my ice/em blaster with powerboost. Back when PB actually booosted knockback I could send those mobs flying halfway across the map...literally. That was fun.
Least fun I think Im going to say speed boost... nothing at all wrong with the power, in fact quite the opposite, but on a full team at a fast pace, it becomes quite tedious to recast every 2 minutes- I rarely play my kin because of this. Great power, but awful in game for the poor soul relegated to buffbotting a full team.
Wormhole has to be one of the coolest in game too, its a one of a kind power type, has a cool graphic effect, and is tons of fun solo.
Most Fun:
Lightning Rod: "Hey, Bob...hows the wifey doin? She still on that kick of you goin legi-" <BIG...FLASHY...KABOOM!!>... "Hi guys!" Best...fight entrance...EVER!
Thunderous Blast: I'm sorry...say what you will about this power...but i love it.The f/x...ok...little on the meh side...but just something about watching an entire group of baddies getting blasted with this and doing the Electric Wiggly Dance...priceless.
Decieve (coupled with superior invisiblity): Do some work in the Hollows. Work up to the Frostfire mission. Decieve Frostfire. 'Nuff said.
Rain of Arrows: When you absolutely MUST have a family sized pack of Shish-kabobs.
Full Auto: Riddle me this...with a buttload of bullets.
Crane Kick: Kick'em in the gut, watch'em land on their butt. Good ol' fashioned fun.
Eagle's Claw: BOOT TO THA HEAD!
Power Thrust/TK Thrust: WWWEEEEEEEEE!! Damn..where'd he go? (BTW...clockwork are REAL fun to do this too...pretty susceptable to KB)
Pretty much the entirety of Plant Control: CHAOS!!! Glorious CHAOS!!
Pretty much the entirety of Earth Control: Nothing says "I was here like a big freaking mess of rocks layin everywhere. And it's LLLOOOUUUDDDD! And who doesn't just love the site of one second...huge mob...next second...A BUNCH OF FREAKING ROCKS EVERWHERE! Especially when you're facing bigger stuff!
I'll think of more later!

Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
When it comes to least fun, it can't be a passive power for me. This is because I don't CLICK on it and wait for it to animate.
Most Fun Powers:
1) Lightning Rod/Shield Charge Combo -> Fireball. WHEEEEEEEE...burn.
2) Footstomp/Knockout Blow with the new animations
3) Fireball. I mean, seriously. It's a ball of frickin' fire.
4) Ice Patch. Don't you even DARE think about that AoE immob!
5) Sonic Repulsion Field. I've dreamed of the day where I finally decide to toggle the brute with this.
Least fun Powers:
1) Snipes. Snipes should crit if the target is unaware. Right now they're sub-par on teams for my time.
2) Blackstar. Just because something sounds cool doesn't mean it looks cool.
3) Personal Force Field. I HATE NEMESIS. Granted, if you have it, it's great. But, put it on an NPC and /em shakesfist.
4) The mastermind pet buffs. Yes, they're AoE's now, but now if I want to resummon my stupid arsonist, I have to burn through half of my end every time after the two buffs and my secondary buffs.
5) Tough. Why? Because out of all my characters, the only one that likes to go RAWR is my lizard. The rest just jump up and down.
edit: Oh and I forgot deceive. Sooo much fun.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.

Oil Slick: Well, when it lights. "Hey, you've been oil slicked and are falling all over the place! But wait... it gets worse!" *FHWOOOOMMP!*
They really need an animation for my character to casually toss a lit cigarette at my oil slicks for maximum awesome.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I'd give you that, if the bruiser used his bike as a one-time projectile. As he comes in, he hops off the bike, sending it smashing into the nearest foe, like a poor man's Propel.
|

He just gets off calmly and starts punching faces. After he passes his beer off to me to hold, of course.
Most fun:
- Assault Bot - Nothing says impending doom like this towering robot. The first time I ever summoned this thing I couldn't play for ten minutes while the shock and awe wore off.
- Full Auto - Long animation, but entirely worth it. The sound effects are usually sufficient, but I occasionaly find myself yelling "RAT-TA-TA-TA-TA..." or, "Say hello to my little friend!" Best if used with the tommy gun.
- Teleport - Does anyone else appreciate the true "ninja travel power" we have in teleport? Seriously, a ninja doesn't run. One minute he's nowhere to be seen, and the next, he's just there.
- Team teleport - You guys weren't ready to just jump in to the AV spawn? Oops. I'll bet Leroy Jenkins would have loved this.
- I was going to start listing some of my favorite warshade attacks, but this list would be too long. There's nothing like an entire powerset that demands "Feed me more bodies!"
- Shadow Maul - This animation feels longer than Full Auto, but to much much less effect.
- You know, I can't think of anything else. Mostly because if it's not fun, I don't use it.
Where to now?

Fun:
Oppressive gloom and/or cloak of fear.
Your presence is so stunning/terrifying stuff can't stay sane around you.
Boost Range.
It WAS the person on the grassy knoll. You know, the one two blocks away? And that person was me!
Incendiary missiles (Robotics)
Nothing like a swarm of missiles that sets the everything on fire, raining down happy orange numbers from the heavens as those uhappy red bars on your enemies wither away. Bonus points if you can strap foes down in the burningness.
Force bubble
Smash stuff into walls, or just stand back happily as those tough guys run at you to smack you in the face, only to bounce away harmlessly. "Why I aughta..!!!" *Boing* No, no you ought not.
Surveillance
You don't know it, but you just got weaker. AND I know what you have in your pockets. Oh THAT'S your social security number....
Knockout blow
The windup...pow! Into the air, only to settle without your senses.
Energy Transfer (Old Version)
Quick, sharp smack of the palm...of INSTANT DEATH. It does look more powerful now, but the old version came off better with just how simple the death seemed.
Levitate
Oh, you want to rune! Wheee! *smacks foe on ceiling.* Enemy gets up, runs toward you Wheee! *Smacks foe on ceiling* Seriously, dude. I can do this all day.
Fallout
You're dead? *Points, laughs, makes friend explode* See, you're useful after all! :P
Short Circuit
*ZZZAAAAPPP* Enemies stare at you threateningly, sans any energy to do anything. So, um, how ya doin'? *Enemies start recovering again and...ZZZAAAPPP*
Group flight+Necromancy
AcridPoisonPuke RAINS from ABOVE! AHAHhahahahaha!
Not fun:
Thunderous Blast
Wait, did I just do a nuke, or did I fire a ball lightning? They don't seem happy, but there was just some little zappiness, that's all.
Black Hole
Prepare to die...! Oh, wait. Um...*Waits around* So, uh, how 'bout the weather lately, huh? *Taps foot, looks at watch*
Kick
I don't know, this doesn't look like a solid kick. There's like a pause, where the character seems to deliberate then say "Meh. I guess I'll kick you. -Oh, and I need to put my sword/bow/weapon away, to."
Poison Trap (from Poison)
*Fiddlefiddlefiddle* Gee, setting this blob on the ground is hard! >Waits for foes to step on it- pets run at foes.< Darn it. Next fight: sets trap, pulls foes. Enemy runs in, bypassing trap. "Killkillkilll!" Darn it!
"People love to talk, but hate to listen." Alice Duer Miller, American Author (1874-1942)
Most Fun:
Wide Area Web Grenade - While not too fantastic on its own, when combined with the rest of my attack chain (Venom Grenade, Frag Grenade, and Heavy Burst) it's brutally effective.
Propel - While my Gravity troller no longer exists, I want to try him again just so I can use this power. Nothing beat smacking a Hellion in the face with a car.
Lift/Levitate - I could mess around all day just launching unsuspecting dudes into the air. It's just fun to see how they land.
Gang War - Nothing says "Mastermind" like calling in a bunch of expendable thugs.
Assassin's [insert attack here] - Some of the animations aren't that good but all the Assassin's Strikes are great attacks and fit the concept of the Stalker very well. It's fun imagining the looks on a mobs faces as you suddenly appear and strike one if them down.
Least Fun:
Jump Kick - One of the lamest animations ever.
Black Hole - Took it once. Used it once. Respeced out of it immediately afterward.
Any Buff/Heal set that isn't on a Mastermind- I hate playing support. At least with a MM I can effectively solo and don't have to put up with people begging for buffs/heals.
On the bandwagon with the high knockback powers, at least while solo. Force Bubble is like a low-level minion railgun. In less than a second, they're flung off your graphical display horizon. I just wish the NPCs had high-velocity dialog options:
"I regret nothiiiiiinnggg..."
"Tell Mom I love heeeerrrrr..."
etc.
Non-solo? Big fan of Gang War. Especially great on mayhem missions when the hero's been triggered, and pops out of the elevator to a vestibule full of allies and henchmen. Great for recreating those moments of aggroing two or more spawns... except you're the spawns.
Confuse:
"Oh, hello Embalmed Abomination." [waves hand] BOOM! "Oh, you blew up your friends, how silly."
"Oh, hello Rikti Guardian." [waves hand] "Thank you for the bubble. Now to boot your friends upside the head." Boot! "And now your reward for helping me." Boot!
"Oh, hello Tsoo Sorcerer." [waves hand] "Now for your friends." Boot! "Oh, I'm taking damage. Ah, thank you for the heal, Sorcerer!" [Sorcerer's Hurricane knocks down other Tsoo] Boot!
"Oh, hello Sky Raider Engineer." [waves hand] "You just go right ahead and summon that Force Field Generator now."
Also Propel. I know the animation time is so long that most people don't recommend using it, but it's just too good not to use. How can you not hit people with a CAR! I'll settle for a long animation and reduced DPS for that, oh yeah...
Are you crazy?? You know how much a Harley costs nowdays?
![]() He just gets off calmly and starts punching faces. After he passes his beer off to me to hold, of course. |
Dude, bike's stolen. He'll just steal another one!
Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
1. Fulcrum Shift (Kinetics). Giving it makes you feel powerful. Receiving it makes you powerful. It's aptly named, because no other single power in the game, IMO, so quickly shifts a battle to your favor than Fulcrum Shift.
2. Fearsome Stare (Dark Miasma). Make just about anything in the game stop and cower before you with a glance. Incredibly wide cone, it's also a great To-Hit Debuff.
3. Knockout Blow (Super Strength). Up until I got this power I had been disappointed with Super Strength, but this one power makes it all good. First there's the wind-up... I'm sure DPS fiends hate the wind-up, but it's some awesome in it's Popeye-cheesiness that I can't imagine something faster. Then there's the knock-up... knock-up, knock-down, and yes even knock-back are all great at making a power feel, well, powerful. Then there's the Extreme damage.
4. Rain Of Arrows (Archery). Just a beautiful power. I love the delay between the end of the animation and the falling of the arrows onto the target area... just long enough for you to fire off another attack to have them both hit simultaneously.
5. Tar Patch (Dark Miasma). It's a -Res, -Def, -Speed patch. It looks spooky, it looks... er, tarry. If Dark Miasma just had this and Fearsome Stare, it would be a great set. Dark/* Defenders are some of the best controllers in the game.
6. Speed Boost (Kinetics). It's not news for anyone, but SB is a Stone Tanker's best friend, my fun factor playing a Stone Tank tripled when she started regularly teaming with a Kin. Necessary? No, but if you love steamrolling maps (and I do, I do), then Speed Boost has to be one of the Best. Powers. Ever.
7. Venom Grenade (Arachnos Soldier). Sweet, sweet -Res. Arachnos Soldier gets one of the best power combos in the game... Venom Grenade --> Heavy Burst --> Frag Grenade = dead spawn.
9. Shield Charge (Shield Defense). OK, I admit, I don't have a character with this power (yet). But I love watching it in action.
9. Spectrol Terror (Illusion Control). What makes this power is the howling sound effect that comes up when you spawn it. When I first got this power on my Illusion Controller back in the old days, I popped into the mob and freaked my teammates out.
10. Disruption Field (Sonic Resonance). Very simple... target a melee ally. Turn this on. Watch them (and any ally near them) pwn.
Honerable mention: Seismic Smash (Stone Melee), Phantom Army (Illusion Control), Lightning Storm (Storm Summoning), Propel (Gravity Control), Shockwave (Claws), Crowd Control (War Mace), Chilling Embrace (Ice Armor), Parry (Broadsword), Rise To the Challenge (Willpower), Shadow Maul (Dark Melee), Force Bubble (Force Fields), Fire Ball (Fire Blast), Fortitude (Empathy), Full Auto/Heavy Burst (Assault Rifle/Arachnos Soldier), Mind Link (Widow Teamwork), Fire Imps (Fire Control), Rage (Super Strength).
Least Fun:
Stamina (Fitness Pool), Barrage (Energy Melee), any of the heal auras.
Global name: @k26dp
Most fun:
Propel. I know it's not a great move, but would never drop it. Hitting people with random objects is just too fun.
Hurl. Again, not a great move. But having my Brute use his anti-air pavement slab to take down pesky Longbow Eagles rarely gets old.
Midnight Grasp (on a DM Stalker). Also Slash on a Night Widow. One-shotting things on command never stops being fun.
Power Thrust. Talk to the hand!
Shield Charge. I wasn't having fun with my Shield Scrapper, and then I hit level 35. Shield Charge completely turned my experience with her around... it's loaded with win.
Fire Imps. Sure, they only have one attack. Sure, they lack utility. Sure, they express their love for you by training spawns onto you... there are three of them, and they're rabid.
Waterspout. Seriously, this power makes it hard for me to pick any patron other than Mako for characters where it's available. Especially if there's Hibernate there, too.
Least Fun:
Short Circuit. Highly underwhelming.
Flash Arrow and Entangling Arrow. Both are underwhelming, and you have to choose one.
Dimension Shift.
Jump Kick.
The Ballad of Iron Percy
Most Fun:
Siphon Speed -- I like going fast. I hate when this misses, but I love going fast.
Shield Charge -- Teleport in and do cool damage and knock everyone about. Nice
Power Thrust -- It makes you feel strong. I like to make it the last thing I hit an enemy with so I feel like I sent him flying with the last blow. If only this had damage too.
Rain of Arrows -- The nice nuke that doesn't drain your endurance or take an hour to recharge. Fun for the whole family. Still slightly challenging to use. I like.
Smoke Flash/Blinding Powder -- Be loves the ninja powers. I like the concept of active defense and placating. I wish it worked better and did more than just for stalkers.
Exploding Arrow -- Feeling like a duke boy. Just a little more fun than the law will allow. But I love the way it explodes. The knockback can sometimes be a problem but the visuall show is worth it. It feels powerful.
Oil Slick -- I'm actually ok with Slick being hard to light. Simply makes it that more great when it does go up! Oh its nice. So nice.
Lightning Rod -- Nice Lightning called down from the heavens to hurt everything. Thor and Sasuke would be proud.
Fearsom Stare -- Love it. Awesome animation and useful as active defense.
Increase Density -- This is just a mean power. It actually has a practical use, but I use it to punish those that make me unhappy. You unhappy I speed boosted you... Ok, next time or too I'll just Increase your density. Take your pick really fast or really slow. Now everyone can feel like a granite tank.
Seeker Drones -- I like the concept. It mechanically works well. Yeah congrats its a great power.
__________________________________________________ __________
Least Fun
Speed Boost -- I've cast this so many times and it wears off so quickly.
Stanima -- I have to get 2 powers I don't really want to get one that does nothing visual, is it worth it, unfortunately yes.
Rock Armor -- Why does my controller have to have wierd poop coming out of her shoulders?
Ice Armor -- I love these sets, but they are visually limiting on what they are supposed to do.
Dual Wield -- Awesome look. I want me two guns. Oh wait the power blows. They put an awesome animation on a terrible power. I might as well skip all the attacks? But I want my guns. But I need other powers. What's a guy to do?
Whirlwind -- Why can't this do something? It used to stop rooting, but I didn't play then.
Propel -- So so so cool animation, but I wait so long to use it. The rest of the set is so
Wormhole -- So cool in concept. So very hard to use. Lots of pain and suffering is usually not worth the pain. Gravity was almost a good set.
Rise of the Phoenix -- Awesome animation, but I have to die to use it. I don't like debt. I don't like dying. I think dying is the opposite of good.
Artic Air -- Love the power. Now I need a couple generators, maybe my own Nuclear Power plant to use it. I also have never been able to make the melee centered toon to use it either. Oh well.
More:
Propel: "Gargoyle! Couch! Car! ...Uuuummm...WTF is THAT?? Modern Art??"
Oil Slick Arrow: "Is the sight of bad guys doing the Flopping Fish on the Pier Dance just not enough to make you smile now days? Then try lighting the instrument of their slippery plight into a massive pyre of FIERY DOOOOMMMMM! Not all oil slicks will light, subject to the whim of the game. All rights reserved)"
Wormhole: When a power can turn an average door mission into a pvp zone by teleporting a Warhulk mere moments before explosion into the middle of your group and nearly killing all of them...instant win.
Fearsome Stare: RAH! BOO-GAH!
Seeds of Confusion/Mass Confusion: MORE CHAOS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Power Sink/Energy Drain/Consume (sorta): "wow...you guys are kinda tough...i'm getting winded here (SSSUUUUCCCCKKKKK)...that's better!" Consume gets an honorable mention cuz of the acc check and longer recharge. I've even drained the Cap GM dry with this power...what's his name...Deathsurge or somethin? Didn't think it was actually me doing that till i stepped back to take a knee after Power Surge crashed me and i saw his end bar going back up. Healed and hopped back into the fight...his end started crashing again. OH YEAH! I'M BAD!
Energize: ELECTRIC ARMOR FINALLY GOT A HEAL! And it comes with a 30 seconds end discount...BONUS!
Disruption Arrow: "Wah wah wah wah wah wah...that is the sound...of your doom. I'd say get used to it but...you won't be hearing it for long."
Entangle Arrow: Yes...even this arrow. For my TA/Archery Defender that was perma-fly/hover...it kept people out of his airspace. And on my Thugs/TA...those pesky kite fliers in PVP (what little i've done) BAH! One of those and a glue arrow later...MUAHAHAAAAA!
Fearsome Stare: RAH! BOO-GAH, I SAY!!!!
Dark Extraction: Because seeing even one team member headed over to whomp the "rezzer" is worth the price of admission!
Psychic Wail: "RRRAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" <everyone just crumbles and falls down> Instant Cast and massive damage, No earth-shattering KABOOM, no baddies sent flying to the four winds (as fun as that can be)...just a bunch of people with a sudden serious migraine falling down where they stand...win all around. Great effects too. And Even with my 5 years in game...seems not many have seen the glory of this power. "What was THAT?" is a query i'd gotten on several occasions. Made me smile everytime.

Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
Keeping on the skull theme, I get a kick out of Gloom. I often find myself wishing Throw Shark (yeah yeah, Spirit Shark) had used this animation instead.
Omega Maneuver amuses me too, even if it's only so-so in effectiveness terms.
