Server Transfers: Where are you going?

I decided to consolidate my toons on a few choice servers, rather than have a few tunes everywhere. As a result, I've got toons on Virtue, Freedom, Infinity, Guardian, and Liberty rather than all but one of the servers.

I keep thinking this is a nice opportunity to get a higher population on Virtue and Freedom (or some of the other servers) so that more people are available to team and in general have fun with. Some servers (like Liberty and Infinity) seem all but deserted.

(I stayed on Liberty and Infinity because they are my first two servers, and after filling up Virtue, Freedom, and Guardian, I didn't want to move what I had left there just to join another potentially low population server.)

So, where are people going? Are you staying there or going back? Any speculation on why they decided to give free server transfers? I think it's a great idea, naturally.

My conspiracy theory on why they are allowing the free server transfers is they are going to be following the path of WoW and that "Other Superhero MMO" by implementing a system where you can have "Cross server" play. This was used to stress test the servers to see if they could shake any bugs loose in the process.

Cross server play would be great, no more worrying about being on a low population server. They even heavily implied at Hero Con that they had a system to allow multiple characters of the same name on servers [This idea was admittedly boo'ed down at Hero Con, but those people are probably all 72 month vets, have all their names already secured and are heavily biased, I think having whatever name you want available would be great for new players]

My answer is "nowhere"

I moved my Villains to Virtue and my Heroes to Justice, so that they could all benefit from from the SG and VG that we (my RL friends) have established on those servers.

I'm not goin' anywhere -- I've played on Victory since March of 2005 and I love it. Yes, I'm sure it'd be an experience to be on a server like Freedom or Virtue, but I have friends who play on Victory, a large SG/VG there, and it just "feels like home" to me within CoX.

(Oh, I am probably going to transfer a mid-level toon over to Freedom simply to participate in Fulmens' "Midlevel Crisis" SG efforts there, but only as a casual thing.)

So far, I've only moved one character - from Justice to Liberty, where I have built up a 2-player SG.

I may move a couple more lesser-played characrers off Infinity (to free up slots) in preparation of Going Rogue, since I have a couple of inherited SGs on Pinnacle & Victory.

Moved a couple of toons from Freedom to Pinnacle.

Moved the only character I had any desire to play OFF of Freedom and back to Guardian. Other than that I moved a few lowbies around, and moved some unplayed higher level characters from Guardian to other servers.

A few characters have moved to/from Pinnacle & Guardian, and a few redsiders from Infinity came to Guardian.

Didn't move.

All my characters are on Justice. I have one ancient level 1 Tanker on Triumph that's never been out of the tutorial zone.

I didn't even use the moves to do the rename shuffle, though I might yet. I'm pretty happy with most of my character names.

I think some people took the opportunity to move off the higher-population servers because they like things quieter. I doubt as many of them exist as those who moved to those servers though. I moved a few PvP characters off of Justice to Freedom, but as far as PvE goes I kept what I had on Justice and Infinity.

I moved a couple characters from Champion to Justice. A couple from Justice to Champion. One from Virtue to Protector, and from Guardian to Liberty.

In almost all cases, the characters were moved in order to get a free name change.

One moved to stay with his "brother", who moved to force a name change; and one moved because I had too many Soldiers of Arachnos on Guardian, and Final Arbiter and Dame Morte are a matched pair, so Webmistress Daeia was the one who got moved.

I think so far I've only used them for day trips.

You know, RO ITF on freedom, grab my virtue blaster to join in and level him up, etc :P

im not moving any toons off of victory, always played there and playing on other servers feels wierd to me. all my friends an my good vg is on victory so no reason to transfer anything.

I've been thinking about moving a few of my lesser-played characters on Virtue over to an east-coast server to make room for a few new characters when Going Rogue comes out. So far, I'm leaning toward Infinity, but I haven't made a final decision yet.

I'm not moving any of my characters... instead I am starting NEW characters on almost every server. Why would I want to perpetuate the ever-constant "growth" and sheeple-ness of Freedumb and UnVirtuous?

Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. Go serverless yourself and play everywhere.

I'm wondering how many people will end up needing to buy transfers because their character got stuck on a server they were only planning to visit.

I have characters on those servers too, yes. And any bias would be a correctional bias.

I have tons of alts, play on all servers and love to PUG, so I have been moving approximately 20 toons, primarly to and from Virtue & Freedom. Basically I have been moving toons I want to play more on to the more populated servers and moved away toons that I haven't played much

I've noticed that unlike some MMOs there's no real need to have all or most toons on one server so I've been considering moving some of mine for the times that Virtue goes down.

Quick question on this though, can someone refresh my memory on how much longer we have the free server transfers? I'm thinking it was through the end of January but I don't remember.

All my toons went to Freedom and Virtue for one main reason...significantly better chance of teaming.

For very casual, PuG friendly, non-soloing type of players like me, this was the smartest thing I've done since joining CoH in July 2004.
