Good duo AT combination
A Stone Armor tank paired with a Kinetics defender or controller is pretty nice. The only thing the stoney really lacks is speed and the kin can just keep it speed boosted, not to mention all the other lovely buffs associated with kinetics. There's a zillion great pairs out there, though, but this is what sprung to my mind immediately.

Obligatory 2 x Empathy/Sonic recommendation.
FM/SD scrapper paired with a Sonic/Sonic defender.
Pretty much any pairing of a damage dealer (scrapper, blaster) with a protector (tank, controller, defender) will work. Scrapper/blaster and scrapper/scrapper pairings can work, but require both parties to coordinate well. Tank/tank, controller/controller, and defender/defender pairings will be highly survivable, but won't be too fast at taking down enemies. Blaster/blaster pairings have problems with survivability, but will tear through enemies incredibly fast.
Rad/Sonic defender and Anything/Willpower scrapper. Fire or Dark Melee would be good choices here.
They synergize beautifully. The Rad's debuff toggles increase an already tough powerset's survivability, and the scrapper's Rise to the Challenge is just enough of a taunt aura to keep the enemy looking at them.
Once you get to about level 35 or so this pair will be damn near unkillable, and as a bonus you'll be able to duo AVs (and some GMs)

A Dark/Rad Defender with a Rad/Dark Defender.

currently reading: A Mighty Fortress (David Weber)
2 Cold Defenders/Corruptors or 2 Therm Controllers/Corruptors/Masterminds (or a combination of both)
A fire/therm controller and a fire/wp scrapper. Good tough characters that can do a lot of damage. Should be pretty early bloomers as well.
Duoing and just want to have fun together?
Assuming you want to survive pretty well, and not want one of you to be a buff bot...
Assuming you both plan to play hero side...
2 Scrappers, and go to town. My suggestion, duo /Shielders, so you can stack defense buffs on each other.
If you both want to play red side...
2 /Shield Brutes OR if you have the 50's, 2 VEATS OR 2 Stalkers (always fun to duo).
I don't mind playing the buffer/debuffer, but for strictly duoing, to sturdy damage dealers is what I find fun (your version of fun may vary).

For Blueside:
Claws/Invul Scrapper (Yeah, Invul) and Sonic/Sonic Defender
-Why? Claws does Lethal damage, and is a commonly resisted damage type late-game. With the /Sonic Blasts, enemies will have -Resistance, which to a Scrapper is essentially +Damage. And /Invul has very high resists to Smashing and Lethal, which is often used by...well, everyone. But Invul's resists to everything else is sub-par compared to S/L. Sonic's shields will help fill that gap while bringing the S/L resists to the cap (75%). And, you wont even need to pick up Tough and/or Weave to bring your resists up, opening power slots for APPs, Power Pools, etc.
For Redside:
I would suggest two Stalkers. IMO, DM/Nin and DM/Regen or even /SR if you want to have fun.
-Why? Because they look fun. The double stacked -Acc/-WhateverItsCalled from Dark Melee will boost your Defenses, letting you get hit less and Scrap more. IMO, that's how Stalkers should be played. Open up with AS on the strongest enemy and proceed to slaughter. Like a somewhat less-protected Scrapper.
Keep in mind I'm MUCH less educated in the ways of the (Red) Dark Side, so I could be completely and utterly wrong. YMMV.
Whatever build you and your girlfriend play, hopefully it's a fun one =)

My last duo with my wife that went really well was a rad/sonic defender and a MA/SR scrapper (could be any scrapper, though.)

@Boltcutter in game.
Currently playing a duo with a friend, Elec/SD scrapper + Emp/Sonic defender. It's a blast.

Mastermind duos haven't been mentioned. I have had fabulous success, with a necro/dark and bots/poison pairing, and astounding success with a Bots/storm and a Necro/storm pairing.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
I am currently duoing with a fire/SD scrapper and a kin/sonic defender. I tried with a sonic/* defender and at low levels the resistance just does not slow down the incoming damage enough whereas the heal in kinetics made a huge difference - that plus speed boost makes your fire/SD scrapper a killing machine.
I will admit that my kin/sonic defender was already L25 when I started my 'duo' - I didn't really do it as a duo as much as I did it so semi-PL my scrapper because I wanted to finally try an SD scrapper and I find them WAY to squishy at lower levels. Even at L24, fully SO'ed and with a steadfast prot +3% def IO I find her to squishy to play solo. So things where a little easier for me as I always had speed boost available. Prior to L7-8 I just had the kin follow my scrapper around and speed boost her without grouping - one speed boost just before entering a paper mission lasts for almost the entire mission if you go fast enough. When the scrapper hit L7 then i could group and still have SB, thanks to the new SSK system.
The nice thing about this combo is that you don't have to do much with the kin/sonic defender. Take transfusion, siphon power, and speed boost at a minimum. I also took increase density (for the smashing & energy resists), manuevers and tactics. Turn on your leadership toggles, hotkey/macro speed boost, siphon power, siphon speed and transfusion, then set the kin to autofollow the scrapper, healing and buffing as needed. On big targets make sure you use siphon speed - most people think of it more as a travel buff for the defender but it is also a kin's best debuff. Prior to L16 you might have to work to keep aggro off the defender but after your scrapper gets against all odds you turn into a damage machine who keeps aggro almost as well as a tank.
You could do the same thing with a */kinetics corruptor and a brute but you wouldn't be able to get speed boost until L20. On the other hand, brutes are a bit easier to level pre-20 as they can slot for end reduction and recharge and rely on fury for extra damage where a scrapper doesn't have that luxury. You could also do this with any Shield defense brute or scrapper - I chose fire melee because I had a cool concept and I like the attacks but I understand electric/SD makes for an awesome AE damage machine and DM/SD dishes out huge amounts of single target damage when you combine AOO with Soul Drain. A DM/SD might also allow you to go the sonic/sonic route as the heal in siphon life and the -to hit in all the attacks will fill in for the defenders lack of heal.

I'm not looking for min maxing necessarily, so much as a duo that's fairly relaxed and pretty fun to play. It doesn't need to be a tank/healer combo or anything like that, but if it is and it's a fun one let me know.
(In general just list AT's and the power sets you would recommend for duoing) |
I would suggest going with a fire/shield scrapper and a cold/sonic defendder. The cold buffs will softcap the scrappers defenses, with no IOs and the shield taunt aura is easily strong enough to keep the bad guys off of you. The debuffs from cold and sonic paired with the highest DPS chain will enable you to take out AVs wuiith ease
EDIT: The same would work for a brute/corr duo as well
I suggest Brute + Corruptor. Brutes alone can pack a punch and can take damage. I have a few Brutes that can solo +2/x8. Add a Corruptor and your possibilities open up a lot, the Brute can take a bunch of damage, and benefits from buffs/debuffs. The Corruptor will also do pretty decent damage and benefit from the Brute handling aggro. So you get great damage, buff/debuff, tanking, and aggro management handled with just two people.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Hey everyone. I've played on and off since launch and for the winter season I thought I might poke my head back in.
I've played every AT and done a great deal of power set combos, but i'm looking for a good duo team to play with my girlfriend.
