How bout the marketing dept do some actual marketing?

Was in Game this weekend. There were two stacks of CO on the shelves in the PC section, a whole shelf just for WoW (as is normal, at any rate) and....not a whiff of CoX.
We need some advertisement, big time!
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I have to agree. I was in a Game store last week looking for some bargains, when I noticed a guy looking at CO, while standing next to 2 shelves staked with copies of it. I asked him if his has ever tried a MMORPG before and he said he had gave WoW a try a while back. I told him to give City Of Heroes a go first, as CO plays a lot like WoW. I told him a bit about this and he seemed interested. Especially after I told him this had been around for a lot longer with more content etc.

They're too busy wrangling the devs to make sure loyal players don't get information except when the Marketing Dept. says so. Obviously, the dev wrangling is a hard job and requires most of their waking hours
I'd imagine that with the release of GR, we'll be getting a decent amount of advertising. But probably not before then.

Oh, and hire Dark_Respite. Have her slave away making videos for a 'nominal fee' and put 'em up as commercials, along with critics' ratings of the game.
Seriously, if I hear one more 'Night Elf Mohawk' commercial I'm gonna cutabitch.
Are you going to donate some scratch towards the TV commercial then? There's a big difference between general advertising and a full-blown TV commercial, and that difference is measured in money.
One TV ad versus a whole bevy of print/online ads.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing some more exposure for the game, but then, as was said, Going Rogue will do that.

But considering I haven't seen much advertisement on any print media, web site, or television show I normally watch, I would say that anything would be better than what we currently have, which is only the occasional blurb or cameo on a random TV show, AFAICT.
I saw it everywhere when the Architect box came out. You'll see it again when GR comes out. It's all about spending you money wisely. WoW has so many players that they can afford TV ads. Most other games don't. They have to chose the times when new content comes out.

I dont see why G4 can have exclusives on CO and WoW and nothing on CoX? I think that marketing and advertising are in the same space...
I wouldnt mind seeing 1 TV commercial or some print FB ads or anything that will bring in new players? WoW does have a lot more money to make TV commercials but let me ask you this: Wizard101 doesnt have a lot of players and they get 3-4 commercials a night, what are we doing wrong?
When games such as Wizard101 and Maplestory get primetime ads and Maplestory and Wizard101 are free2play I don't understand what marketing/advertising is doing other than telling devs not to say a word about anything unless the people from marketing say its time...

There are so many advertising possibilities for this game, it makes me sad that I am still explaining it to COMIC BOOK FANS! People who read superhero comic books have never heard of this game after six friggin years! I have this image in my head of a scene in down town city (New York???). People going about their daily affairs when suddenly there's an explosion off in the distance and all of a sudden the business man getting his morning paper bursts into flames and flies off; the taxi driver eating a beagle turns into a giant stone golem and lumbers off into the distance; a young family walking in the park stops, the wife kisses her husband as her eyes begin to glow with electrical energy. The scene fades and you see the City of... logo and under it, it says "Where Anyone Can Be a Hero!"
I can only dream
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."

Still, some mainstream advertising would be pretty nice.

Sartre once said, "Hell is other people." What does that make an MMO?
Well, the fact is that the game is easily in the "maturity" stage of the lifecycle of a product, so they're more concerned right now about keeping the loyal customers than developing new ones. Now, when GR is released, that is essentially a new product with a new life cycle, so they'll likely start a new advertising campaign to draw people in who haven't played before, as well as releasing new stuff that appeals to the older players as well.
Of course, they have to decide an appropriate price for the market that's available, and if there's going to be some kind of discount or premium given when we first purchase the game.
Finally, when that is all determined, then they can figure out what kind of advertising they're going to throw out there.
Don't mind me. I'm a marketing major. >.>

The lack of mainstream marketing and advertising for this game has always left me scratching my head.

Well, since the cab driver is eating a Beagle before the transformation, it should read "Where Anyone Can Be Super!"

So... Paper ads are dead? So this means anyne who spends their money on Comics ads are doing it wrong? Come on! I don´t think neither Marvel nor any other comic group would be against selling some pages to CoX (maybe DC won´t because of their own MMORPG). Some internet advertisement also can´t be that expensive...
I sure think marketing guys should be doing some more work than telling the Devs not to tell us about the news too early...

What I find really sad are the folks who have left this game saying "everyone that would play this game already is." how is that possible when there are so many that don't KNOW about this game?

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
I highly doubt Marvel will allow a CoX ad with their interesting history...but nonetheless, there needs to be some sort of advertising/marketing campaign. They can hire the fat guy from The Bare Naked Ladies but they cant do real ads that will be placed in mass media? I am sort of irritated by this?!
I mean there has to be some glitzy-named actor or dork that plays CoX and why cant we get a stupid "Night Elf Mohawk" like commercial/promo ( and yes I really want to take a sniper rifle to Mr. T for that commercial...it is irritating it runs ever 2 seconds)
The prime medium that they could use is MMORPG.com or even on G4 , I say they start doing something before it's too late.

I keep applying, my dear. They keep saying no. *shrugs* But if they change their minds, I'll be U-Hauling my stuff to Mountain View ASAP.

this is why and where the people behind this game should be listening to the fans and well to be honest..talk with us more.
this game can be sooo much more then it is, if the communcation between the fans/players and the behind the game people becomes much more.
for one, the videos u make plus more proactive advertisment would make people more adware of the game.
Maybe it's just me or does the CoX marketing dept suck? Can we get some TV comercials or at least some sort of advertising?
