If you want the most free transfers, use all six by this Saturday (Jan 31 is a Sunday) and six every week thereafter for 36 free transfers.

Use or lose is the only way to plan. I would hate to lose a precious token before all my moves are in place.

It may be even tighter than we are thinking.
The rules say "up to 6 transfers a week (7-day period) per account."
I see two ways for the mechanics of this to work:
- On day 1 of each week (days 1,8,15, etc), All six slots are replenished, whether empty or not.
- OR, When each slot is used, a countdown starts and that slot will only refill 7 days from the moment that slot is used.
But IF it is method 2, then each day you delay in using a transfer, then it will be further into the next week, before you will have the transfers reset, ready to use.
For example, with method 2, if you wait till day 5, and make all 6 transfers that day, then you would have no transfers available on day 8.
You would not have the ability to perform another transfer until day 12, when all the 7-day countdowns would refill all the slots.
If you then delay a few days to use the next set of transfers, it would push the next availability further back again.
(If you do not use each transfer as early as possible each time, Transfer availability creep could cheat you out of the maximum transfers if the replenishment algorithm is method 2)
I wish we knew which method it will be.

Okay, I transferred a character from Champion over to virtue. She disappeared off of Champion right away, but I don't see her on Virtue. Is this like the character copy tool, where it sometimes takes some time to work?

(may lose toons that haven't been transferred over... but hey, that's okay)

The patch screen says, "character transfers within one server list will be free until the end of January!". Is that just another way of saying you can't move characters between North American and European servers? Or does it mean you can only move characters from the list on one server?

I can park a few inactive characters on other servers, do the 'server tour' with my main, and open up a few slots on Virtue for GR characters.

There is no list of servers by population, but you do get a list of servers by load every time you log in, which is close enough. The server at the top of the list is the one you last logged in to. The rest of the list is sorted by load, lightest at the top and heaviest at the bottom.

Well, I just logged into the game for a look-see, and my character that I transferred over from Champion to Virtue is STILL NOT THERE. Nor is she back on Champion. If transferring to virtue was not allowed, wouldn't virtue have been greyed out or something when I did the transfer?
Where the h-e-double hockey sticks is my character? I've had her for awhile, run her up to level 30, and not just AE playing. I really hope she's not lost in limbo, or just gone. I'll be pretty PO'ed if that's the case. She's got a full load or AE tickets, and 10 complete sets of salvage from soloing the halloween trick-or-treat event, plus a few random extras. This was a character I cared about, which is why I wanted to transfer her from a server which is dead on nights when I can get on, over to somewhere more populated.
It seemed that on Champion, unless you were a member of a mega-SG, forget about finding teams if your schedule had you working funny hours, or your only nights off were monday and tuesday.
