the healing power of boobies ...
hes probably gonna grab himself in bed and do that "thunder..THUNDER.. THUNDER CATS!!.. OHHH!!" thing.. or start singing the "I love you.. you love me" Barny song, halfway through sex..
and also... err... wait..
...
..
.
what the hell was this thread topic about again?...
Alan Davis, anyone?
Ed Benes scares me because I think he's going to slide into WTFville and end up with lopsided faces and weird art crutches like Michael Turner, or (to the nth degree) Rob Liefield.
He hasn't yet, but the style is very similar. |
How can you mention Liefield in the same sentence as Benes and Turner. That's like saying John Byrne, Jim Lee and the animators of Ren & Stimpy belong in the same category...
Legendary artist without a doubt, but not really known for drawing hot babes. On the other hand, he draws the smoothest, most free-flowing action scenes I've ever seen and has a real knack for posing figures in a natural, effortless manner.
Don't get me wrong--his women are certainly attractive, but I think we're trying to identify the artists whose renditions of women make you drool and howl at the moon, so to speak. Not just pretty but va-va-voom sexy.
I forgot one on my previous list: Milo Manara is a European artist who definitely belongs in the top 5.

I like adum hughes, michael turner and ed benes. Jim lee is great at drawing everything, but I dont think he hits the same stride as the afformentioned three.
I think hughes in the comicbook world is the title holder.
Milo Minara, hottest lips drawer eva... he should be rated X... for X-cellente!
Love that guy's work.

Edit: Left out the two links that were mod-smacked but put back the text to complete the sentence.

Unlike Liefeld they at least have some sense of anatomy, but Adam Hughes, for example, is miles ahead of both of them.

Hmmm, trying to decide if it's the Redname's post that is drawing all these people who I never remember posting in these parts before... or the word boobies in the title.
|
I'd say it was boobies... probably what attracted the Red name here in the first place

Adam Hughes, to me, is the greatest pinup artist of the modern era, and second only to Gil Elvgren in the all-time rankings of artistic portrayals of beautiful fantasy women. He's certainly one of my biggest influences, and when I had the chance to do the cover for Issue 18, that's definitely the sort of material I had in mind--equal parts sexy and fun.
(And yeah, that's Pocket D btw--if you look closely, you can pick out DJ Zero in the crowd) Frank Cho and Dave Stevens are right up there as well, along with newer guys like Stanley Lau, Chester Ocampo, and Warren Louw. Obviously, it's quite difficult to draw beautiful women and a very specialized skill at that, so there just aren't a lot of artists operating at that top tier level. This is pretty subjective, eye-of-the-beholder stuff of course, but 2 million+ pageviews each on DeviantArt seem to confirm a certain level of popularity. |

No, I know Turner draws severely AND Benes draws similar... just like hmmm, Byrne and Lee draw similar women, men, etc... and I love Byrne and Lee. But all of that is part of their style. Are you telling me Huges doesn't draw similarly? He uses the same model all the time... it's part of his style in my opinion, much in the way Alex Ross photographs the same male model for Superman.
Liefield ignores any sense of consistency except being more and more inconsistent, that you can rely on.
..well how about Frank Cho.. gotta give him some cred as well
..and Chris Sanders..
..theres also an artist that drew for Heavy Metal or some adult mag.. whos art style was somewhat squarish and slightly cartoonish.. yet managed ta make some awsome women..
one of his storys was about a women and a magic mirror in the dessert.. and a whole lot of men where carrying the mirror for her.. and then a sandstorm comes in and the cursed mirror dose funky stuff.. like magical spanish flyish stuff.. and in the morning all thats left is the mirror laying in the sand.. but you KNEW everyone involved had a good time at least..
bah.. Ive searched for hours and I cant find a name or image ta show..
but BELIEVE ME .. hes a totaly aswome artist *nods knowingly*
I'd say it was boobies... probably what attracted the Red name here in the first place

im also putting down Jim Balent as well ...

In order of overall talent and skill, I'd say it's Benes > Turner > Liefeld, but Benes' left eyes have a tendency to drift noseward like Liefeld's, and Turner's drawn some waists that make me cry. It's just a matter of time before one of them slips up and accidentally draws boobs on Cap.
Okay, probably not, since Turner's dead.
I've always liked Jim Lee's work. Then again , who hasn't... I also like Dale Keown and Erik Larsen.

yer saying the left eye curves on a frontal shot? cause on a 3/4 it makes sense as you would not see the whites... or is he drawing some people cross eyed, which i have not seen. And I agree with your placement of who's better, but in my opinion, the space between Benes and Turner is much shorter than the planet between Turner and Liefield.
Let's agree to disagree. I'm rubber you're Foo, whatever you says bounces off of me and foo's back at you.
That's when the in-house comic went from being horribly drawn to whoribly drawn.
...err.. or ANY of the coh or cox women for that matter.. (* trys to think what ghost widow would look like in a foam covered bathtub shoot *)...
(*then imagines mako in the tub, singing the song from jaws and inching closer to her *) ..heehee
