Most Populated Servers?
LOL...population???
There is no population on ANY of the servers compaired to how they use to be... The game was killed in issue 5 and 6, its been on life support since, they turned that down to with this MA/AE stuff, which lost even more ppl (I know because both my sons stopped playing their accounts) Only time will tell if the pops will ever come back, maybe they will start server merging soon? |
If you look at the literally hundreds of options people have for MMOs COX is still doing better than most and being original in it's setting (not fantasy i.e. FFXI, WoW, Aion) is probably going to help it continue to maintain.
Ultimately look at it like this... the last thread I read concerning population showed it at just under 130K... let's say it's wrong... let's say it's only 100K...
100,000 subs * $15/month = (insert Dr. Evil voice here) $1.5 MILLION... a month... $18 MILLION a year for the past four years (since issue 6) = SEVENTY TWO MILLION DOLLARS. Your life support analogy is a bit thin. Not to mention that if it wasn't profitable they wouldn't be working on an expansion.
I'm sorry to say but if you're logic consists of "my two sons and I play but they quit therefore: COX lost 66% of their player base and is set for failure" it's slightly flawed. Not to mention that you have people like me that are fairly new to the game so don't assume that just because someone quits (even if it's your sons) that other people won't start.
Sorry for the semi-rant, I'm sure that the veterans that disagree with this view are slightly annoyed by posts like this but it's even more disheartening for people just starting out and if you really want to keep playing this is counter-productive as it may scare new people away... "why do I want to start playing a game that's dying?"

I'm concerned that since CoH keeps getting better and better, with more features, powersets, options, and difficulty settings, that it will eventually swallow the universe. How can we keep CoH merely awesome, as opposed to it consuming all existence?
I'm concerned that when I'm playing CoH 30 years from now, in my retirement home, that I will require a special keyboard with large print letters. Will one be available?
www.paragonwiki.com is a great source of information for this game.

no evidence... are you blind? dont even stand there and say that the server numbers are the same as issue 4... if you do you need committing!

So again, I'll ask that you find some hard data to back you up, please.

Still, I'll bite. Okay, the numbers aren't the same as at the time of Issue 4.
Your point?
P.S. Someone posted a thread in this section asking about the Nemesis Staff power. You could go post about the game dying in there, too!

Justice is not, nor has it at any time been, "the unofficial PvP server." That distinction went to Freedom before I13, and continues to do so. Infinity was the unofficial arena PvP server, but in the wake of I13 most of Infinity's players either left or transferred to Freedom.
|
But what he said is true. Justice and infinity have never been unofficial PvP servers that title has gone to freedom. if PvP, Farming, Grinding missions is your thing...Freedom is definitely the way to go.
For a more casual gaming experience with a little bit of everything (including furries..sorry, cat-girls came with the bundle.) head on over to Virtue.
Virtue has a very large and active community and tends to be less antagonistic than freedoms in my experience.
I was just reading an article on MMPORG.com about Champions Online and there seemed to be quite a few folks with issues concerning that game (mostly lack of Content and microtransaction cost complaints) so I wonder how many folks left CoH/CoV for CO and if (in fact) those complaints are valid I wonder how many folks might be headed back to this game thus adding to the overall poplulation here. Hopefully a few do. To actually respond to the question asked I guess from my perspective it always "feels like" Freedom is the most populated. My favorite server in the "old days" was the unofficial drunk server i.e. Pinnacle. There were some great folks over there but alas now they are few and far between.
Since the game's dead, anyone want to sell me their Nemesis staff? I can't wait 6 more months to get it.
I have played a lot on Freedom, Justice, Virtue and Liberty, but Liberty is home.
Freedom is too laggy and too immature.
Justice is too laggy.
Virtue is meh.
Liberty has a very active community and will help people out, even strangers.
Since your question was population... I would place Liberty at 4th.
Come to Liberty and type: /chanjoin LB to join Liberty's Global channel.
Happy hunting.
One problem you're going to run into on high-pop servers.
Notice the LOVELY red dots (all three of them)?
When logging in, you get a nice queue message telling you that you are number X of a queue of Y people who're waiting to log into the server.
So, essentially, on the first day something really flipping cool drops in the game YOU CANNOT LOG INTO YOUR SERVER OF CHOICE. Why? BECAUSE IT IS FULL.
