Buying Boosters Multiple Times

There should be a descriptive comment next to the word Perk, imo.

They do, yes.

I wouldn't be against more disclosure in the account page, though it wouldn't help me at all (I have everything already, and will continue to have everything). But without that disclosure and/or detail, you have to exercise your gray matter before making the purchase. Especially if the dollar amount of said purchase represents an amount that is dear to you.

It's still something the system should be able to catch. Regardless of whether or not you think some people deserve to be monetarily punished, design flaws are still design flaws.

This is the main problem I see. I mean, it's cool to see all those codes on my account page, but it'd be nice to know =what= "perk" I purchased or applied on such-and-such date.

I have to agree with the OP here. I know on one occasion I have gone into the store and couldn't recall which boosters I already had and which I still needed. By the end of that trip I ended up buying and applying the science booster which of course I later learned I already had. It was no biggie as its not much money but I can't see where having a list of purchased/applied game codes could be a bad thing. Or even having the site check and confirm you really want to purchase that item twice.

*shrug* I don't see it as a flaw necessarily. Just like I don't think there needs to be big bold letters on my Motrin bottle telling me not to take more than the recommended dosage. If a person can't be arsed to log in to the game to check to see if they have the features attached to a booster or item pack, I don't feel any sympathy that they bought something they already had.

Many supermarket receipts have heavily truncated entries that aren't always understandable. Would I feel upset if I bought two of a particular item because I didn't know I had bought the first one already? No, because I should've checked my bag(s) first. Does that mean supermarket receipts need to print the exact name (including flavor/variety information) on receipts? I don't think so. Would it be nice? Sure!

Bottom line is, I don't tend to immediately think any mistakes I make are someone else's fault. If I had paid attention or done the necessary checking, neither case would've happened. And while the former has never happened to me, the latter happens at least once a month so it's not like I'm immune to it. My immediate reaction is "I should probably pay closer attention", not "you need to print better receipts".

I find that the vast majority (over 90%) are perfectly understandable. On the other hand, having the word 'perk' repeated a half-dozen times conveys no information.

It's like if the receipt just listed the word "food" instead of the food item, and only the cents part of the dollar value.

Whether or not you feel sympathy does not mean that there shouldn't be error checking. The current implementation is ugly, and requires extra time spent by the customer service department to refund accidental double-purchases.

Bingo. I think that gets right to the heart of the matter, thank you. If they can't set up an automated system to ensure that we aren't wasting our money, at LEAST they could give us a way to make an informed decision ourselves while on the NCSoft site WITHOUT having to go into the game first to check whether this or that option exist on our characters.

Can you go through a web proxy like anonymouse? Though I'd be careful about using credit card numbers via them I guess.

Otherwise, I guess you would need someone you trust living elsewhere to use your account details to buy it.

Hope you can get it!

I agree with the OP that the names of the perks (booster packs/costumes etc..) should be listed. In fact one of the items is descripted and as someone who has bought most of the extras, my list is basically:

  • Retail
  • Perk
  • City of Heroes® Good Versus Evil Special In-Game Item Pack
  • Perk
  • Perk
  • Perk
  • Perk
  • Perk
  • Perk
They can do it for that one item, why not all? It is just lazyness on the part of the person adding the item to the store? As for people suggesting people should log in and find out if they can't remember, perhaps the person is not in a position to be able to check at the time they are ordering it.

Hope the OP got their money back but I'm wondering if the OP or anyone contacted the NCSoft support and enquired about it yet?

If you actually READ, "the OP" in full, you'd know I don't really care. I'm well off, I can afford to waste the money. I just worry about those that aren't.

If you buy extra apples or steak-umms you can eat the extras. A copy pack does nothing. It takes money while giving no service or product in return.

The store could check if there are any accounts under that master account which are capable of accepting the code. If they're all already upgraded, it should merit at least a warning before finalising the purchase.

Hopefully those that aren't check before they purchase. I assume they would if resources were tight.

(unless they are less well off because they sent their savings to the widow of a Nigerian General and are waiting for their cheque to clear of course)

I agree with the OP. I don't understand why I have "PERK" instead of the name of the item purchased and applied, yet it will show me the last 4 numbers of that particular item code. I get the feeling that it is a half-finished, UNPROFESSIONAL attempt at creating a billing and purchasing site.

I personally like to have an ACCURATE, itemized list of all services or products I purchase. What would you say if your bank statements starting coming back to you with generic entries that just said "Transaction" that didn't give you any more information (including monetary amount!) so you can't verify and check off against your own records what has cleared and what hasn't?
To me, that is just shoddy business.

The buyer should be the one to know what he's bought but there are issues on NCSoft's part too.

Simply naming items "Perk" isn't really good enough and should be readily fixable.

We also need something in the Cossie creator (and optionally the UI too) to identify the various paid Add-Ons.

I'm guessing this is an historical thing: NCSoft have been kind of caught out by the popularity of the bolt on goodies so didn't forward plan too well.

This.

The whole window with item after item being listed as PERK, PERK, PERK, is why I always check in game before buying something. It needs to be fixed.

I also went and checked this time before buying the Martial Arts Booster. I remembered saying that I was going to get it last week, but wasn't sure if I bought it this week. So I logged in FIRST to make sure. Cause I don't trust NCSoft's page.

This is what I do too... why waste the money when its so easy to log in and trigger an emote? Of course.. I'm the weirdo who buys the packs as soon as they come out, thus I never have to remember if I got it or not.

The only one I haven't bought is the Cyborg Pack.. but that's just because I know I'll keep miss-hitting that button that makes my toon go boom.. thus I'm being proactive and not giving myself the option to do so.

Or you can always take the self destruct power and take it off of your power tray entirely... or put it in like tray 7 or something...

Or just say F it, and use it EVERY single time it's recharged no matter what you are doing in game at the time..

Some would call that insane behavior though.

What?

Why are you looking at me like that?

My list looks like:

Retail

Preorder
Retail
Collector
City of Heroes® Good Versus Evil Special In-Game Item Pack
Perk
Perk
Perk
Retail
Perk
Perk
Perk
Perk
Perk

Apparently, the GVE was the only one accurately defined. Generally sloppy token/offer naming, to be sure.
