There's a resurgence of Alpha pics! Woohoo!

Great new stuff since the last time I peeked. Grats as always, Caem.

Great stuff, Caemgen. That Aposcar piece is indeed very slick, I really like what he did there. Simple and dynamic.

Myke is a good guy and I look forward to seeing the WiP when it's finished. He really has been honing his skills. And I love team-ups!

Thank you again my friend for this gift.
My pleasure... Team Ups are cool so thank you for agreeing to it!

Heh, not sure I love the idea of Caem wearing some kind of leather chaps but I do think he did a great job of expressing the furriness...

Thanks! Not exactly the color I would have chosen for Alpha's powers but it does look way cool

Thanks! But, err, Alpha is still technically dead. Just some overdue stuff with him finally getting done...

But he's part of the trio so of course he'll be resurrected... I've actually got the piece envisioned but not hired out yet... And have hired out new Alpha stuff so yeah, he'll return before he's actually resurrected I guess. Weird.

One of the things I find impressive about the Aposcar piece is that it looks a bit simplistic at first but if you look, the details are all there.. Plus despite just ordering simple bust portrait's he's gone above and beyond so far

As for Myke, I think he really has returned with far greater skills! I'm just happy to be benefiting from them! As for team ups, you have to stop in more often! There's been a couple times I been looking for volunteers and had difficulty!

Bah ... it's more an honor for me

Woah, the Myke one is wonderfully organic. Almost a shame to ink it, though I'm sure it'll look fantastic.

Nice Aposcalpha too.

Funny I almost called them chaps but then decided that sounded a little off. LOL Maybe we should push for those skin/material type pants on the females in game for sure! I still think it looks cool on Caem though.

The last of my recent Bindweed (aka Happy-Dan) commissions: Fenian goes to the Carnival!

As a super extra bonus, he also modified it into a comic cover!!

I love the carnie pic. Too bad the carnies in-game don't have hair like that!

I'm a little late but the MykeManila piece is awesome.

Hmmm, never was sure just how CR's last comment applied but....

Moving on!

Latest piece is some Poser work by isikol... I'm not sure if I really consider Poser stuff art or not - I guess I mainly lean towards not. It's like a high tech way to play with dolls, no? But out of all the Poser stuff I've seen done (and I'll admit I never went out in search of it) the only person who ever really impressed me has been isikol. Some of his stuff I most definitely would be willing to call art... So, when I decided I'd see how my trio would come out in Poser, who else would I go to??

Now the following is not the best piece I have ever seen by him but considering how hard it probably was to get Alpha and Caemgen anywhere near their actual designs, I am impressed.

Though you don't consider it true art I still think this is a cool piece. Only things that really stand out to me is Caem's head looks very 'shopped and his right hand looks oddly twisted. Alpha looks cool - maybe his shin(why does that seem spelled wrong? is it?) armor looks a little out of proportion to the rest of him but it's armor it's supposed to look a little bulky. All in all I wouldn't mind having a piece like this! Grats again Caem!

Caemgen! Your piece by Isikol is amazing! I consider Poser a type of art. Otherwise anyone could turn out awesome pieces like Isikol's!

BTW...Where ls Caemgen's KILT?

Hey! I said I considered some of isikol's stuff art!

Never bend your wrist when throwing a punch!! Yeah, I was focused on a couple different issues which I got changed/fixed but missed those...

Shin. Yep. Spelled right

And yeah, the armor is a lot different but I think that had to be expected... He's also got a bit of the ole C3PO thing going on in the middle there

But I definitely do not mind having a piece like this... But hmmm... Maybe for the next contest..... Hmmmmmm.

Thanks! I think I'm leaning more towards it can be art... even if I'm usually going to say it's not. *shrug* But just because everyone can't do it doesn't make it art... I can't wire a house but I wouldn't call that art :P

As for the Kilt... That'll come and go as I feel like for the art I think...

Anyway, one more isikol piece in the works... That one will be the 3 faces of Fenian

Man, digital animators are gonna be pissed when someone finally tells them they're really playing with dolls.

Skills differ, but if you're GOOD at it, you're making artistic choices when using Poser. What about composition? Color? How you use your light sources? People who really get into it will also do a lot of postwork to heighten their pieces.

Is set-up photography not an art if you're using a digital camera? I did a huge photoshoot of eggs for a Photography assignment. Was I just making breakfast?

I don't personally like Poser work, but I also don't personally like most cubism. But can I see where there is artistic knowledge used towards both? Of course.

Well, you were actually, until you left the eggs out all day after the shoot

There's good 3d/poser stuff out there, but like you said, you have to do a lot of post work on it usually to make it really shine, and you still need to understand the fundamentals. Which is why there's a ton of bad poser art out there because it's so easy to get into and extremely hard to master.

The dead eye look is what gets me with most 3d pieces, which is thankfully finally becoming less and less common as people get more experience and the technology gets better and better. It's still very early on in the game with this stuff.

Yeah, which is another good point. ANYONE can oil paint, too. That doesn't automatically mean its all done well.

Media is media; its the artist that makes it art. Its insane to deem something not to be art because of the media used, not the way the artist used it.

The contentious thing about Poser for me is not whether it's art, but the fact that you are using materials created by other artists to do your art. Anything associated with Poser is inherently a collaboration. I've disputed this with Doug Schuler for a long time--he simply views it as another tool, like a paintbrush. I view it as getting source material from a team of highly talented professionals to work with.

Fine art photography is often a collaboration in the same way. But people seem more likely to recognize a model as being a significant contributor to the work vs. Poser which is just viewed as software.

Collaboration or not isn't really the issue for me. For me it's pretty much the works I've seen. As I mentioned, I haven't sought out a ton of it so I am admittedly basing this on a limited sample... But most Poser stuff I have seen is bad, boring and *shrug*. Still, isikol has impressed me with a lot of his stuff. It's always seemed to me like he takes it to a level that the vast majority that I have seen just don't.

So yeah, I can view his stuff as art... Most Poser stuff I've seen? Nope.

I definitely see where you're coming from. For me, its a shifting line. How much of the piece produced DEPENDED on the individual textures/pieces made by others? Or was a piece successful because of all the artistic choices made? Its much like using Photoshop to me... a poor piece will rely mostly on fancy-pantsy brushes, but a strong piece will be in the artists skill, with specialized brushes being more of a precise tool.

I see the same in the photography/model example. It depends on the shot. Did it rely heavily on the model emoting, or was it more about the light/exposure/lens choice/cropping etc., etc.

And Caemgen- if you're not liking Poser art, that's the fault of the artists, not the media. I also don't see much merit in a vast majority of it. But I know that's not because of Poser itself.
