Caemgen's Commission Corner

Just grabbing up a little corner of real estate for me to show off all the great artz I have gotten as gifts or through commissions.

First up is nothing new but is one I absolutely love... A gift from ChristopherRobin which I immediately decided was the definitive face of Caemgen...

Next we have an amazing piece of art by Eddy Swan (http://eddy-swan.deviantart.com/) of the same character, just this time a full color/full body piece. I love the mood set in this piece by the colors and I absolutely love the celtic knotwork Eddy used on the gloves and the shoulder pieces. I've already asked artists who I also have working on this character to work it in to those pieces as well....

And last (for now, so latest?) but certainly not least, a group shot of my morning static team The Daybreak Patrol by Juggertha (http://juggertha.deviantart.com/). Having nothing but screen shots of each character, Juggy somehow managed to totally capture the character and personality of each while still maintaining that distinctive Juggertha style...

I'm sure larger shots of the last two can be found at the artists pages (linked above) or at my DA page - http://kaemgen.deviantart.com/

That's one of the better pictures I've ever seen Juggy do. Very nice.

Very nice, Caemgen

Care to let us know who the Daybreakers are (the individual members)?

Very nice little gallery you have starting up there bro.

I love the new Daybreakers piece that Juggy did, he is always a sound choice for good art. Eddy just keeps getting better and better.

Hey on that avatar from Chris, is there anyway to use something to straighten that out? I mean make it straight up and down? I like it don't get me wrong, but i have to tilt my head to really see it lol.

Keep em comin Caemgen!

I would never knowingly support keeping any females clothes on for arts sake.....

Wait a sec, Sassy might read this...

Um...nothing to see here......

The Daybreakers are, from left to right, Officer Kirby, Tac-Officer Hoplite, Daybreaker Alpha (me), Officer J. Hustice and Daybreaker Sigma...

We are an early morning static team that meats up Tues + Thursday mornings at 9am eastern for a couple of hours each (anywhere between 2 and 4 depending on RL and how awake we are)

It's about the easiest going, coolest group I have ever been in. Everyone is amazingly laid back, helpful and nice... If you were really interested Pyro we have 3 openings on the static team (we stopped actively trying to fill to 8 but aren't opposed to new members) and most of us also have other toons we play whenever so we of course have openings in general membership... In fact I put all my toons in the group. We're on Virtue, by the way...

As for my avatar by CR, I believe I have a straightened version used in a couple buttons Pyro made up in my gallery (click the right hand face in Sig Bar for my DA page) under Gift Arts... Personally I like the angle. It gives it that oddness which really suits Caemgen

And it was a good day for art... First Juggy's finished piece and then Taclobanon finished up my 3 person commissions (The contest art Bubbawheat won should be coming soon....) So, here's the latest three by Taclobanon http://taclobanon.deviantart.com/

Daybreaker Alpha:

Fenian Girl

Caemgen

Full size versions should be up on my DA page soon, just click the right hand side of my sig bar

Yeah was on DA when those three came up on the artists site. Daybreak Alpha is my favorite of the three because of the outfit pieces and the overall look of the piece but a huge Gratz on a great day for you in artz buddy!

Posted

I dig all three ofthose, but yeah, that Daybreak Aplha is my fave. It's got a very cool vibe to it.

Posted

Three more very cool pieces. There's something about the style of the Daybreaker Alpha (the Taclobanon one) that grabs me. The "brushstrokes" (well, I assume its digital) or something. The other two are very nice as well. Also, I didn't have Taclobanon on my DA watch list until you posted those so there's that!

1) I should have posted the full size to begin with. Corrected below.
2) There is a way to rotate to a more "correct" angle, but not that I have or know Paint only rotates by 90 degree angles and that's all I have...

Drawing by CR

would it bug you if I rotated it ?

like so

of course its a lot less work to just tilt your monitors so it appears even :P

Thanks Deebs!

And I didn't need to tilt my monitor... My brain is tilted to begin with

Patience, patience... I refuse to whip my artists into working faster. I'll have to wait to speed them up until I find my paddle.

Heh...

In all seriousness, I treat the commissions much like I did tattoos... I refuse to rush the artist because I want it perfect! I'd rather wait a bit than get a rushed product.

Now if it starts running into months or longer, then I may get anxious

Yeah i'm with ya man...

But still:

Something about how you are right behind him... And he's all bent over like that... Just seems wrong.

Eddy Swan has such a gift for setting a mood with his colors.
I can't wait to see what he does with the Cannonbrawl run prize I'm working up for Starwind.
On the note of the Celtic knotwork... isn't it great when one artist just does something so right that even
though you weren't aware of it a second ago you know immediately that it has become part the definitive
look and all others that attempt it after must incorporate that part of his(or her) vision into any and all future works.
Love it when that happens!

Cool piece by Juggertha there. Eddy's work keeps gettin better everytime I see it. He makes Daybreaker Alpha look very iconic.

Having shot it from all different angles (including straight on) the rotated one is the one that always
grabbed my attention. The angle really draws the attention to the unique shape of the horns.
I can PM ya a "straight on" shot if you want buddy... but for me the fact that it's "just a little bit off" says Caemgen.

Wow I'm impressed with Taclobannon's renditions.
Alpha's piece really conveys a bleak post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
Fenian's is bright and sunny like she is reveling in the use of her powers.
Caemgen's has that eerie "make-you-look-over-your-shoulder-to-make-sure-he's-not-behind-you" effect.
I love his take on the wings too. Very nice! The dark style of linework in this piece reminds me a lot of Jacobi Law.

And there is a crap load more to come... But after that crap load there is likely going to be a long interval of constipation... Err, maybe I'm carrying the anology too far.

Let's see, I have the following still out there:
(3) Cashoo's takes on the same characters and poses as Taclobanon did
(1) Alpha piece by Rhardo
(2) Team Up pieces by Foo from CCC#3
(4) pieces not involing my characters - prizes from CCC#1 and #2

Plus, errr, some other stuff.

But I'm done purchasing for this year. I swear.

Probably.

Or totally define their look when all you really had was a vague idea. It is totally cool.

I was thinking moody and full of complicated, confusing, over worked back story... But I'm happy with iconic

Thanks. Thanks. And thanks.

Ok, it's the artist that deserves the praise (feel free to go to his DA page and give it to him!) but I'm going to take a teeny, tiny bit of it since they're my toons!

I wasn't thinking apocolyptic about the Alpha piece but I can definitely see that. I was thinking more him just have some huge battle. Either way, I think the pic definitely captures that battle weary warrior thing quite well!

Fenian is supposed to be very lighthearted and a bit errr, frespirited I guess. In my head (and any stories I write about her, when I get to that) she's been through dark times bt they haven't touched her much. She's totally getting comfortable with her powers but at the same time she's not looking for more than she has. She could grow more powerful through study of ritualized and formulized magic but she's happy with what just comes naturally... Specially since she's all about taking care of the little problems and leaving the big stuff to the real heroes. In game I have to go up against Nemesis and such to level her but in her own "reality" she'd probably not tackle anything bigger than the Family unless the problem fell right at her doorstep.

I love the Caemgen piece and that is definitely a big part of his character... The watching, the brooding, the being scary looking... But eventually I'm going to have to get a piece that captures his more vulnerable side. The side where he's not really a demon and not comfortable looking like one. The side where he feels like an outcast because of his looks and really just longs to fit in... And probably could but is too afraid of rejection to try. Probably not the easiest thing to catch in a single piece of art though.

I know you're joking but I actually considered checking with you before I tried to straighten it... But then found out I didn't have a program to do it with anyway 'Sides, if you had an issue with straightness you should have complained about the buttons!!

I couldn't have told you since I didn't know you were doing it, silly!!

But actually, nope... I figured they all had the benefit of a bunch of reference shots. In the future, though, I'm including your sketch in the reference shots and going to point out that the face should be based on that.

Actually, one thing I need to do is sit down and write out a list of "quirks and peculiarities" about each of my characters and put it right in the reference gallery for that character. I don't have a long list but I still find myself forgetting to mention things in the rush of "making the deal."

In CCC #3 I asked entrants to pair up one of their characters with one of mine and suggest a scene between the two. I then picked some finalists and had everyone who wished vote on the final winners...

At this point I would like to apologize to everyone involved for wasting your time.

I had the best of intentions of running the contest, and following through with it just as I detailed in the original CCC #3 thread but in the end I just couldn't do it.

All the entrants had such cool characters... All the suggested scenes became so vivid in my imagination... After the contest was completed I just wasn't satisfied with the two winners. Not that I wasn't totally eager to see the two pieces. Not that I didn't think they deserved to win. But rather I was disappointed in not seeing all the other ones...

Well, I could only think of one way to fix that... All entrants got one of their entries commissioned out.

Not everyone is getting a piece by The Foo which was the announced prize (though the two winners and a couple others are) but they will all be getting a piece done. Frankly I didn't want to overwhelm Foo nor wait forever to get them all done... I was going to wait to reveal the pieces from the non winners until their all done but with so many people watching various DA pages and such I realized that just couldn't realistically be kept a secret.

Anyway, the first piece is done. I would like to present you all with Fenian Girl and Oathbound by Juggertha:

Fenian Girl is my character, Oathbound belongs to... Oathbound. The rest of the pieces will be posted here as they become available... Larger version can be found on my DA page (click the face on the right in my sig bar) and Oathy, PM me your email address and I will email you the full file...

Caemgen, you are a totally awesome and generous guy!!! I thank you!!
