Caemgen's Commission Corner

It's the latest in a long line of crackpot theories on how the world will end.
A combination of a 5 thousand year old prophecy (of a sorts) the I-Ching combined with the last day on the Mayan calender combined with a computer program that "read" the collective "wisdom" of the internet (our technological zeitgeist if you will... I typed that with a straight face... just sayin ) and they all spit out the same date and so the EoW'ers are all in a lather once again. They get something to get all fired up about again (they need it too when y2k came and went and no planes fell out of the sky and the markets didn't implode and no meteor struck the earth) and we get a crappy movie with great special effects.

Dangit now even the art collectors are PCR' ing me... *shakes fist* curses foiled again!

I think this one is even cooler than the Caemgen piece he did. Part of it is the dynamic pose, the crushing of Crey (Alpha's person nemesis) and the bit of stylization there is to the piece but I personally have a hard time coming up with any word to describe this one besides "EPIC"

Actually the pose reference I sent him was http://360.kombo.com/images/content/...on-man-hit.jpg telling him I wanted something similar to that. Artist and colorist also mentioned that I sent them IM refs...

Not sure if they looked at the exact image you have as well or not. The angle certainly seems so. I'm good with it either way...

Heh, looking at this again I notice that ref pic I sent is just the movie version of the art... Somehow missed that on first glance, though I had just woken up...

Anyway, I guess I was thinking he would switch it up a bit more than he did but it doesn't really matter to me. Daybreaker himself is a bit of an homage to Iron Man so I see no reason at least some of the art shouldn't reflect that.

The blue light bouncing back up from the punch definitely must be a product of the art but it fits perfectly with Alpha currently using the peacebringer archtype (which I think fits him perfectly so long as I stay away from the form change powers...) so I'm really glad he kept that bit in...

But when I said I loved the dynamic of the picture it definitely wasn't all about the pose. Of course that is part of it but at least is much is finally seeing Alpha take down Crey - the sign being smashed and the buildings coming tumbling down... Even the black edging of the picture and how Alpha's arm and the one building break this edge... Even the buildings being off to the side as opposed to behind Alpha, maybe it was easier to draw that way but to me it looks awesome, kind of a two panel page without the panel.

So yep, he followed the reference shot probably a bit more than I intended but it works so I have no complaints... I wonder a bit if language came into play there... His English is a million times netter than my any other language but since he's obviously a native speaker I tried to simplify my intent to "something like this" when I think initially I was going to say "your take on this kind of pose." I was afraid "your take" might be one of those colloquialisms we all never think twice about but foreign speakers might not grasp... I'll have to be more forceful on getting my intent across in the future...

I didn't get the reference at first, but now I know it's a thousand times cooler.

Rhardo originally did work for me on the portraits for the Daybreak Patrol... I loved them all and it was about time I got him to do Caemgen and Fenian as well... This completes my set of rhardoized versions of my characters... For now

Not every artist on my deviant art watch is a great artist... Some have distinctive styles which I like for one reason or another, some are a bit too experimental or weird to be great... And some are just people who may some day be great but right now just aren't.

My latest commissions come from someone currently in that last category.

Not to say I don't love what I got so far... Nor that I don't have high hopes for the headshots I still have coming from her... but she's a beginner and her work is kind of hit or miss so far. I really like a few things in her gallery, others are just kind of meh... Maybe even most.

But hey! I do not say this to slam the artist at all. If that was my intention I wouldn't have taken a chance and bought anything off her... Instead, when I saw her journal about how she was opening for commissions for the first time I looked over her gallery again, I checked out her prices, and I decided why not? I may get lucky and what she does for me may be among her better works and if so I'm getting them cheap... And if not *shrug* not much harm done and I maybe give a boost to someone just stepping out into the scary world...

I'm such a greating freaking humanitarian, aren't I??

Anyway, the first items up are the chibified versions of my trio... These were done by Zeamay http://zeamay.deviantart.com/ - Not the best chibi's ever but I think they're all darn cute anyway...



I'll post the headshots up once she's done with them but so far the initial sketches look pretty good

Just got the last of the headshots from Zeamay http://zeamay.deviantart.com/ and while the quality of the three varies a bit, I must say I'm glad I was the first to hire this gal She is just beginning and it shows but I think given time she'll end up being rather good and having a style all her own... Overall, must say I'm most pleased with the Fenian pic.








I actually really, really like the Fenian pic... It's not the best art I have of Fenian but I think it really captures her personality in a way the other arts just haven't yet...

Commented on her DA already but yeah the Fenian piece came out great... it's a whole other side of her I haven't seen depicted yet.
Daybreaker is good too considering that is her first "robot" ...Caemgen is a bit sad wookie-ish but hey to quote the immortal Meatloaf... 2 outta 3 aint bad.

CR - Those were pretty much my takes on each exactly The Caemgen pic actually isn't bad... But it doesn't really depict Caemgen. For her first commissions though, not too bad.

Also, I uploaded the wrong Alpha version. She had tightened up the left edge a bit - Here's the final version:

No it's not bad as a whole and parts of it (notably the hair) I really like but what ruins it for me are the horns... when I stand back and look at it they resemble oversized ears more than horns.
If the horns were reshaped and moved a bit though I think it would be a much better overall look I think.

Also the face doesn't resemble Caemgens much... strangely enough it actually looks like a difference face in the CC (supernatural face 13 I think it is) but that may just be coincidence unless she has knowledge of the game that I am unaware of?

I missed a lot of your new artz Caemgen - They came out exceptional, congratulations!

They went a little less detailed on the costume than I expected and played with the power effects but I must say I am loving this overall...



Don't have the finalized, full sized version quite yet but once I do it'll, of course, be up on DA....

PS: I love the words on the walls too! Very kool!

This one came out really nice too. Some things that I like...
the brick wall and the power fx reflecting on the floor, (that's a nice touch) her legs and her ribs.
Also the little bit of daylight coming from overhead to light the alley shows up on her figure like it should...

What I think is a bit off would be the tails of her bandanna where it connects to the skullcap is too thin and almost
looks to be cut off and floating (or like they are part of the power effect)...
The poster with the pink writing on the far wall is too obscure... unless for some reason it's intended to be illegible...
The backwards use of your name... once you see it you can't not notice it kind of thing and it breaks the thought of that being graphiti.
These are just my opinions and it still came out very nice.

P.S. @VexXxa: of course the words are misspelled.
(well his name is anyway) but I agree it's a neat effect.

P.P.S. Yeah I know your name on DA starts with a K but that doesn't explain it ending with an "M" once on the
left wall and again where he flipped it backwards (to look like a different word I'm guessing) and put part of it on the far wall.
