Dark/Shield Help again

I'll look at your build when I'm sober.

Here is the build I'm thinking of for i19.

It's pretty much my current build with Assault and Tactics, and I dropped Focused Acc and took Conserve Power and Physical Perfection instead. In other words, pretty lazy. Also moved the Armageddon set out of Soul Drain into Shield Charge. This will help not kill fodder for AVs and Pylon runs and with Physical Perfection and Conserve power I don't have to worry about the additional end cost on Soul Drain as much. I also finally bit the bullet and slapped a third Membrane in Active Defense, so I can continue to merrily combine all my purples into reds even against the new Praetorian enemies.

Of course I'm gonna change things up probably once we get concrete details on how the Alpha slot will work, but this is what I'm looking at for now.

Ok I lied and took a quick look at your build while not quite sober.

If you slap a full set of Eradication in Dark Consumption, remove two slots from Tough and move the Obliteration to Soul Drain....You will gain some HP, and you can remove the Aegis set in Tough and remain soft-capped to AoE. Then you can slot tough with a generic Res IO and two of those End redux/Res HO thingys or three of those HO thingys, either way you'll end up using less end.

Ok, I spent some time looking over your build, and also re-vamping mine. I also started a new DM/SD from the ground up...though it did turn out similar to my I18 live build since I was keeping my own build goals in mind.

As far as your build, I don't see a whole lot that you could improve on. The one thing that jumped out at me was to move the three Miracle set from PP into Health, which will net you a bit more regen. Also, you'll get the benefits of the unique and better regen at lower levels, if you exemplar. You'd also want to move around power choices if you plan on exemplaring at all.

My personal nit is that Smite only has 85.9% Acc vs. +4 without SD or Tactics. Not a huge deal, but one my build-OCD focuses on. You could move two slots from CJ into Battle Agility to make a 4-set of LotG to raise the Acc to 89.4% in Smite and your DDR goes up slightly(91.06%), but your Melee Def drops to 45.3%, which may not be enough of a buffer for you. I also admit to liking the purple damage proc and a Clouded Senses damage proc in Smite for better DPS, but I'll address that in my build update.

Finally, I noticed you slotted two Menbranes and one Enzyme in AD. I know you're going to better end management but AD will have a brief period where you're not double-stacked. It may be a wise trade-off, but I've never tried it.

Here's the build I did from the ground up. The big thing that I wish it had was higher HP - it's sitting at 1996 compared to yours at 2031. A bit lower Resistance and 5% less recharge, but still capable of running the top chain. It does have a fair bit of gain for the losses , though. 95%+ Acc vs. +4 in all attacks without SD/Tactics, Smite has purple and Clouded Senses damage procs for higher DPS, better end management since CP recharges faster. Take a look and let me know what you think:

Finally, here's my current live build, but with Assault, Combat Jumping, and Super Speed added. Awesome padding to all positions just by adding CJ. This build is also capable of exemplaring to 27 and remaining soft-capped in this incarnation. Also, pondering removing a slot from Tough to put an Enzyme in AD for better DDR, though I haven't done it here:

Here is the live build change, I took away some of the defense buffer, I think you lose on average 1.5% but I added some +hp and some regeneration, I lowered your end cost but you also lost 2% resistance.

That is a good idea and I will definitely make that change. Don't worry too much about exemplaring, I have a second build that allows me to keep my soft cap to L27.

I would love to have slotting like that and I'll have to figure out a way to slot that and keep every aspect of the build with in a 95% target of what it is currently at.

Quote:
Finally, I noticed you slotted two Menbranes and one Enzyme in AD. I know you're going to better end management but AD will have a brief period where you're not double-stacked. It may be a wise trade-off, but I've never tried it.
Yeah its either not have it ddr capped and have it permanent double stacked or have a small period of insanely under ddr capped and then be at the ddr cap lol. I might switch to having the 2% under ddr capped at all times.

I'd say work on your endurance consumption, its pretty high, you'll definitely need to use DC and CP a lot.

I did a quick look over. As far as Endurance goes, you're ok without Tactics on. I think Sant didn't notice you had it turned on in the build.

My main concern is that your Melee Def is technically not even softcapped. If you hover over the Melee percentile, you're at 44.97%. You're losing some survivability there, and with only 88.98% DDR you'll definately notice a lot more incoming damage if you go up against debuffers. I would shoot for more Melee Def to give yourself some padding.

-edit: You could replace the two LotG in Weave with two Enzyme HOs to get to 46.03%, and if you want a bit more, the LotG: Def/End in Deflection with another Enzyme to get 46.32%. If you did both switches, you'd be losing 1.66 HP/sec regen, which isn't something you'll even notice. (Yes, this is more expensive, but if not this, then the build will require some work to pad Melee Def without losing other key build goals.)

Lastly, SL is underslotted. You're losing both damage and healing with that slotting. If you can afford HOs, I'd go with the 3/3 Golgi/Nucleolus. If not, then I'd move a few things. Replace the Heca: Dam/Rech from MG with a Recharge IO, and replace the Heca: Dam in Smite with the Heca: Dam/Rech. Put the Heca: Dam into SL with a Mako: Dam/End, CI: Dam/End, Touch of the Nictus: Acc/Heal, Touch of the Nictus: Heal, and Touch of the Nictus: Acc/End/Heal/HP/Regen. This will net you 95.26% Acc, 95.9% Dam, 73.78% End, and 88.07% Heal enchancement in SL.

So, with a few minor adjustments, the build will be quite solid.

So, with I19 you all think Grant Cover,Assault and Tactics is the way to go? I'm thinking about tactics for the rectified reticle IO. Does that one need to be turned on?

The more people I meet, the more I'm beginning to root for the zombies.

I already have grant cover, but yes I am picking up the leadership pool so I can increase my defense without set bonuses and then move some set bonuses around. Yes you need to have tactics on in order to have that proc on.

I also have Grant Cover already, as well as Tactics and Maneuvers. I have GC to run situationally for Def Debuffers, and Tactics + Maneuvers uses less end/sec than running Weave + Focused Accuracy.

I'm running Tactics strictly for the GSFC proc to up DPS marginally, as I already have +95% Acc vs. +4 in all attacks without it. The +Perception built into Tactics really negates the need for the Rectified Reticle unique, IMHO. I'm likely going to pick up Assault to run while teaming, as my wife and 2/4 friends I most frequently team with all have it too, and stacking +Dam is always nice.

The only reason I could see why you'd want to pick up the RR Proc is for PvP outside of that I don't really see a reason for it. Not to mention you probably wouldn't want to PvP on a Dark/Shield.

You don't need to have a power toggled on for the RR Unique to work. I have it slotted in BU and it's always on.

+Perception is useful in PvE against attacks that cause -Perception such as the Arachnos's Smoke Grenade which you run into a lot red side (I'm uncertain if it helps against Placate). However, all of the builds here have Tactics so the IO is probably unnecessary.

I guess but I'd much rather slot Tactics with something more useful imho.

I'm a newbie player relatively speaking... I don't have any super farming characters yet. But it looks like my DM/SD might solve that rather well. I'm trying to build up a workable 50 IO set that won't completely destroy my bank while being pretty close to important caps, and this is what I have so far. I'm going for economy at the moment as opposed to numbers, though. Most of the big ones are going to come from hero merits. Any ideas or ways to save money and up effectiveness and such is highly appreciated!

Of course it'll be for I19... but now that I think of it I don't think I saved stamina slots. Oops.

Purples and PvP sets can get very expensive. That 3% defense from Gladiator's Armor is going to cost you billions, unless you are willing to save up 30 hero merits for it.

Also, DM/SD is not exactly optimal for farming. Farming requires a good deal of AoE to kill as many enemies as possible, as quickly as possible. There was a thread recently about power set combinations that are best for farming. A DM/SD build is best for putting out very high single target DPS so you can kill AV's and other hard targets faster.

+1

If you're looking to do farming, your best bet is either an Electric or Fire/Shield defense character. Dark will take too long to farm with.

It does well enough with soul drain -> shield charge + fireball, while also being able to do things that aren't strictly farming. I don't want to make a char JUST for it, being able to at all along with TF's and such is good enough!

I would try to slot weave a little bit more so you can lower your endurance consumption. Also maybe slot some Luck of the Gambler's into Deflection and Battle Agility to raise your passive regen and hp a little bit.

Dark/Shield Build Thread

I’m looking for an outside opinion of this planned DM/SD Brute.

While I know I should focus on one or the other, I will probably do a fair bit of teaming and general content with this character – but I’m very interested in using this character to do some no insps/no temps type of challenges.

Some notes:

  • I wanted Obliteration in Soul drain, but couldn’t fit Gaussian’s in anywhere else and was having difficulty reaching softcap without it and figured with Fury and Dark Obliteration any damage I lost is marginal.
  • Would have liked a bit more recovery (to about 3.5 eps or so), more regen and more recharge.
  • I will most likely go for the Spirit Alpha boost as eventually the Ultra Rares when available would add the extra recharge I wasn’t able to squeeze in otherwise, and the healing component would benefit OWTS, Siphon Life, True Grit and Health.
  • The Patron Pool Power Selections are set in stone (the slotting is open to criticism & changes)
  • I debated heavily on the slotting I have now for OWTS, 2 extra slots for the heal IOs was a lot to spend, but it does add an extra 250 HP when I need them. That being said, if removing 1 of those slots leads to a large enough improvement elsewhere, I’m open to that.

I updated the build using the new Mids, and made a couple of tiny changes.

Any comments or criticisms would be welcome, or some way to add more Recharge while remaining softcapped and not losing too much in other areas.

Would switching out Hecatomb and Crushing Impact in Smite and Midnight Grasp as well as adding a sixth slot for recharge requirements in MG increase my DPS?

I assume you're running Midnight Grasp/Smite/Siphon Life/Smite, so yes it should improve your DPS due to the hecatomb proc being given more chances to go off.

I did the exact same swap on my SS.SD Brute moving Hecatomb from KO Blow to Haymaker and saw a definite improvement.

If you have time, I'd love an opinion on these two builds (slightly modified from my earlier posts, I just can't leave the build alone).

I really wanted Shadow Maul, but I'm playing with every option available.

Here's probably my favorite of all the builds I've worked out, with the exception that I would lose Shadow Maul.

With this build I would go Cardiac.
