I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it is only the taunt portion.
I used to run a End Red in AaO instead of the Taunt. Reason I had changed it is I was hoping that it would allow for me to maintain agro better. For when I am helping some friends level and we are absent a Tank. The build I have now does not run into any End problems with Taunt being slotted. But I can see how more recharge equals faster attack chain which means more end drain. That could be a problem.

Does the Taunt being slotted in AaO make any kind of worth while difference? How would I find out if it effects the duration or the 'strength?' of AaO power.

I'm not sure if the combat logs in game shows enhanced or unenhanced numbers for powers but you could check there under AAo's power numbers. If it doesn't you can look in Mid's, right click the power and it will lock it so it won't jump to another power, go to effects and then it will show you the duration of the taunting effect. Unenhanced it shows 16s and with the taunt enh it shows 24s. I'm not sure how an additional 8 seconds of taunting effect would help, I don't know of a way to quantify that but I've never had any issues with other players peeling off my aggro with just running an end red enh.

It's not really an issue for me, but more of a pet peeve. For me its those occasions they decide to attack one of the outskirt baddies, or one that runs away after I jump in and hit Soul Drain. They end up doing fine until the Demon goes Invincible, then things get rough for them until they get more levels under their belt. Even though I know that I have no control on who they attack. I just hate people dieing when they are with me. lol

Since the effect is not that noticeable then I'm going to change back to the End reduction to save me end.

I am however debating on if I should use the 2nd build over the first. As the first build is pretty much set up how I would have it once I get the pvp recipe. Just move two slots around and change Siphon Life. However if I did the 2nd build I would have to buy a complete set that I will just end up discarding once I get it.

So I was goofing around and I came up with a build that doesn't have the optimal slotting for Siphon Life(cringe) but I managed to squeeze out 10% more of recharge which has SD 4 and some change seconds off of permanent. I just can't get over not having SL with the best slotting...

I'd make a build with the GA Proc in it at first, it has a large effect on your build, it will let you move slots around and use sets that you normally wouldn't be able to use.

With how good yall made the optimal slotting for Siphon Life sound. I don't think I would exchange that for a little more recharge. Especially is you already have more than enough to run the best attack chain smoothly.

With you mentioning that I started to think. Maybe I should change my build up to look like this, until I get a GA recipe. I lose 5% recharge compare to the ones I posted the other day. But it's still 5% better than the current build I am running.

Just from experience the siphon life slotting, 3 golgi and 3 nuceloulus, is what really keeps my toon alive it heals for 269 hp and still does awesome damage, my build is still capped with out the gladiator proc and has 142.5 recharge. I would definitely build around that specific slotting for siphon life, its awesome but y'all knew that already lol

Interestingly, I've been fiddling with the idea of frankenslotting SL some and getting a damage proc in there. Granted, this is with the solitary goal of trying to get my DPS to break the 300 mark on a pylon run, not for general gameplay.

I think for the pylon run I could afford to lose some Heal enhancement and also Accuracy. I have Tactics running constantly in my new revision, so Acc wouldn't be as needed, and with Comm Officers/minions I don't find that I need the maximised healing from SL as much.

Now I just need to buy a respec recipe...

As to the build - I wouldn't sacrifice the 3/3 HO slotting in SL for 10% recharge. Really, the difference in downtime for SD between having that 10% and not isn't going to affect your performance noticeably, yet the loss of optimal slotting in SL would likely be noticeable.

I don't think I'd ever give up the HO slotting for SL, its just that good.

You know after reading all of these people talking about how amazing Dark/Shield is, I'm beginning to wonder 2 things, how popular is it becoming and how long will it be before one of the two sets are nerfed lol.

If certain combos are going to be nerfed based on popularity and/or performance, when can we expect combos like fire/kins and ill/rads to be nerf batted?

So seeing that the change to Shield Charge happened with the launch. I wanted to go out and test my DM/SD and see if he could still perform the same....

Yup, hardly a noticeable difference. Ran missions at +3/x8 against Rikti solo and the Praetorian Demon farm of mine.

Warning this is an experimental version of mid's using leandro's mid's change, I'd suggest not opening it if you do not have that version of it loaded on your computer

So I updated my build for I19, I'll be dropping Focused Accuracy, and picking up Assault, Conserve Power, One with the Shield or Taunt, and Tactics.

Dark/Shield Build Thread

Posted

So I went through and made a build including fitness being an inherent rather than what i did before with just moving powers and slots around. I came up with a newer build, alittle more of everything even endurance consumption, a lot more of of endurance consumption. But I now have conserve power and dark consumption so I don't think I'm going to be having any endurance problems lol. Again if you don't have leandro's Mid's patch, do not open this. I uploaded it as a long forum post for those of you who don't, sorry to those who don't like them lol.

Dark/Shield Build Thread

Posted

If we're posting I19 builds, here's my theoretical build.

I didn't save any slots for stamina. I'm hoping I can do something with the Alpha slots to improve stamina. Not enough public information has been released to conclude if they will allow current IOs to be slotted in them. If Alpha slots won't improve stamina, I'll have to sacrifice some AoE defense by pulling a slot out of one of the travel powers or figure something else out when the information is released.

I am against using HamiO's in ways they weren't intended to be used. I don't want to have a build broken or gimped because I depended on HamiO's to enhance defense and then have them fix it. I know I am putting myself at a disadvantage by not using them for now, but the build still soft caps defense, except for the missing .09% on ranged.

You are sacrificing way too much in the name of getting more recharge, you've completely underslotted health, stamina, tough, and true grit, and have over slotted grant cover. I'd seriously reconsider losing a lot of recharge in order to make your character much more sturdy. If AoE damage is your aim, I'd suggest making an Electric/Shield because Dark/Shield won't even come close. Also Positron has made mention that having Hamidon enhancements increasing defense by 33% is an accepted feature, the only thing you'd have to worry about using HOs is having Active Defense's DDR flagged as unenhanceable.

I was going by the information on this page. I just came back from a 3-year break from the game, so I haven't kept up with forums or dev posts to find out if that is still accurate.

Grant Cover was slotted that way to boost DDR in case True Grit's becomes unenhanceable in I19.

Stamina becoming an inherent power really stretches out available slots. I was hoping Alpha slots would work similar to regular ones, considering this is a theoretical I19 build. I haven't seen any information on how they will work. I can only guess that they will allow us to make builds like the one I just posted without the deficiencies you pointed out.

I'm pretty sure I want DM / SD. I don't have an absolute desire to be AoE DPS. It is just nice to have some when needed. Single target DPS seems more important because minions die easily from everyone else's small AoEs or from shield charge + fireball. I won't even start this build until I19 comes out. The cost of IOing a DM/SD is far more expensive than any other build I've done. Going halfway on IOs and getting the cheap stuff doesn't seem like it will provide anywhere near the amount of DPS a fully-slotted DM/SD scrapper can do.

It is, but if I have to turn the power on to gain DDR, I want some endurance reduction slotted in it.

That is correct! Usually I just slot Grant Cover with an endurance reduction and call it a day.

LotG 7.5 mule. .05 end savings with an end redux isn't bad, but it's usually not game-breaking for end sustainability. Using GC for a LotG 7.5 also helps free up another Defense toggle with higher end cost for a full Red Fortune set to help with Ranged Def.

Other's have addressed that GC's DDR is unenhancable, but of note is that True Grit doesn't offer any DDR, but it does offer a significant survivability boost in +HP, which really should be enhanced.

I'm not even bothering to toy with I19 builds yet. I want to see if the inherent Fitness powers are slottable before I let the idea become a huge timesink.

Castle has said that they will be. I'm resisting the temptation myself, otherwise I'll lose interest in the character until i19. But Assault....and Tactics....and Physical Perfection so I can run them....
