I16 is out, what about Going Rogue?

ok, GR is supposed to be released after i16....And since GR was announced, there has been really next to nothing released on any real details on it. Like, can villains go to real paragon city intead of preatorian paragon city, or the same about the heroes going to real rogue isles, etc.... GR is supposed to be the next expansion and issue, so lets get more on it.

GR will be released sometime beginning of next year, more than likely. And I thought BaBs I17 is coming out before GR and that it's not I17 but it's own expansion, much like CoV?

I'd be surprised if it comes out sooner also. I'm going with after Christmas or January anyway. According to the "Loyal Through Thick and Thin" advertisement, people with an active account between August 15, 2009 and November 15, 2009 will get Beta access to Going Rogue. Loyalty access will be the Second wave of Beta. Pre-Sales will be the Third wave.. which might bring it Live right around the end of December.. but most likely early 2010 unless things go REALLY smoothly.

Correct, from the information we have now, GR will be a separate expansion much like CoV. However, the assumption that GR will be released near the same time as I17 (in much the same way that CoV was released near the same time as I6) is a reasonable one to make.

That was said about issue 16, not 17. Everyone was thinking i16 was GR, but the devs made it clear it wasn't i16, but GR will come after i16.

They release Issues at the same time as major expansions so players don't have to download a ton of stuff they may not have access to.

I'm pretty sure that we will be able to cross over to "real" paragon city and "real" rogue isles. As its something that has been requested for quite awhile. Praetoria will be a new zone/zones.

The implied mechanism is the change from hero to villain or villain to hero is done in Praetoria. After you are fully heroic or villainous, you can only go the that side.

So a Villain who becomes a hero will be able to visit Atlas Park, but would not be able to visit Mercy Island unless they became villainous again.

I may be off the mark, but that seems to be how it will be set up from what I have read and seen.

  • Issue 16 will be released before the "Going Rogue" expansion.
  • The "Going Rogue" expansion will not be coming out as the next issue after Issue 15.
  • The "Going Rogue" expansion will not be coming out between Issues 15 and 16.
  • The "Going Rogue" expansion will not be coming out at the same time or before Issue 16.
  • The "Going Rogue" expansion will be coming out sometime after 16.
  • Issue 16 and the "Going Rogue" expansion are not related to each other in any meaningful way.
That clear everything up?

i17 Middle of Jan and GR beginning of Feb IMO.

i17 will introduce the story elements associated with GR along with the normal additions and nerfs that all issues get.

Everyone is assuming and hoping for the issue that gets released to coincide with Going Rogue will be issue 17, and while it is likely, it hasn't been confirmed yet. It could be issue 30 for all we know right now. Considering the sizes of issues 14 and 16 development wise, I think we're done with issues for this year (usually try for one big and 2 small ones a year, we got 2 big ones this year). Also because of the loyalty program they announced the other week:

Quote:
From here: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/new..._and_thin.html

All City of Heroes® and City of Villains® players who maintain an active account for the time period beginning August 15, 2009 and ending November 15, 2009 will receive a set of special rewards for their loyalty to Paragon City™ and The Rogue Isles™:

• Closed Beta access* for City of Heroes Going Rogue™
• Exclusive loyalty badges**: "Vigilant" for Heroes and "Determined" for Villains

* Going Rogue Closed Beta Access will be granted using a three-tier system:

Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time.
Tier Two: Loyalty Program players
Tier Three: Players who Pre-Order Going Rogue (Preorder details to be announced at a later date)
they won't be able to really start at least the 'tier 2' closed beta testing until November 15th. Considering the holiday season comes soon after that where many workers are going to be out of town for much of it, it would be very tight to get it out before the end of the year. They might not even start any beta testing until after them because of it.

Assuming Going Rogue coincides with issue 17, I'd say 1st or 2nd quarter of 2010, depending on how much beta testing is needed.

I'd say you are probably right. If there are any more content updates for the year, or if issue 17 does come it will be small and won't coincide with GR.

But more than likely 17 is with GR and is next year.

The start of closed beta for CoV was in late August of 2005. Release was the end of October 2005. It is possible to be released this year with the same beta period depending in when it enters beta. Of course, what we don't know is when it will enter beta or how long the beta period will be.

With that said, I don't believe it will be released this year because of the loyalty program dates. Having 3 waves of closed beta, then open beta in about a month is pushing it.

You're assuming there is an open Beta, which I would doubt. This isn't a free issue, it's a paid for expansion. I would guess the only beta will be the closed one.

I assume there is one because it follows their typical Beta/Release process. I don't recall if there was an open beta for CoV though. It was just too long ago. But, simply because it is a paid expansion does not exclude the possibility of an open beta period.

Idanno. I was thinking that anyone who Goes Rogue will only be able to operate in Praetoria and would not be allowed back into redside or blueside. Kinda like how they did with CoV: villains can only operate in the zones created for CoV (well, with the exception of the co-operative zones that have been created since then.)

I say that because otherwise, who's gonna hang around in the new Praetorian zones? If characters who Go Rogue have a choice, do you think they will play in a zone that only one-third of the playerbase has access to? (ie, those that bought the expansion.) If the Devs don't force them to play in Praetoria, think of how difficult it will be to find teams there. Think of purpleside market prices. Most will only play in Praetoria if the devs force them to.

I'm sure the devs are putting a lot of work into designing and coding the Praetorian zones (they're not just gonna be cut-and-pasted versions of the existing zones, no war walls for one thing.) And I bet they would not appreciate it if we didn't play there.

*Gives Kryhavoc a Cookie* Yes, that's how they've explained it. I also think Posi said there would be a small cost. What that cost is... anyone could guess.

CoV beta started August 2005. The game was officially released on October of 2005. So it would not be out of the question for the game to be out before year's end, if beta started in October.

That being said, the Loyalty program terminates Nov. 15th, but since Tier 1 for 60+ month vets happens before Tier 2, it's plausible that closed beta could start in October, leaving the last half of November through December for Tier 2 & 3 closed beta, then open beta. However, I doubt they would launch too close to the holiday season, since there would be little to know time to address any post-launch bugs that may crop up.

Although I could see open beta going through the holiday season with the official launch after the new year. In any case, it's all speculation and educated guesswork.

If my rusty memory cells are recalling correctly, the closest CoV got to an open beta was 1 weekend before release where they ran a stress test in partnership with FilePlanet.

Then it closed back up again and we got the end of beta event and then the servers closed down for a couple days until the head start weekend for pre-order folks.

There will be a stress test, but that will be the closest to an open beta.. Thats is what they did with CoV. The open beta was just a stress test over a weekend, then they released the game that next week.

Best Case Scenario for Going Rogue Beta:

  • Tier 1 — 60+ Month Vets: Oct. 20, 2009
  • Tier 2 — Loyalty Program: Nov. 17, 2009
  • Tier 3 — Preorder Purchasers: Dec. 8, 2009

That would put release at about Dec. 15 (perhaps as late as the 22) assuming everything goes perfectly. This makes the Beta period 8 weeks, or 9 if the 22nd ends up being the date.

This timing makes it very likely that GR won't release (in the real world, as opposed to this bizarre wishful thinking) until mid-January of 2010.
