I16 is out, what about Going Rogue?
Haven't we learned that pushing out a release just before the long Christmas/New Year holiday is a recipe for disaster? While it would be "nice" to have this on the store shelves before Christmas from a business standpoint we still have about a month's worth of patches for I16 needing to be done plus the whole zombie/Halloween event plus the Father Time Holiday event. I can see another booster by the holiday season. I'm going to guess March 2010 for Going Rogue.
Speaking of which how many thinks that the Natural Origin Super Booster will include exclusive animations for Super Strength, Martial Arts, Swords, Maces and Axes? Maybe a custom weapon skin or 3? Or is Mutant next? |
I hope that new animations are not relagated to a paid item pack. I am also hoping that mutant is up next, would love to see some new animal heads and other classicly mutie things.
So, if my understanding of GR is correct, there is still no new content coming out for CoX? Your hero becomes a villain and runs villaing missions (which have already been run) and villains run hero missions (which have already been run).
When is there ever going to be a content upgrade? The biggest issue is the level cap. It has been 50 for waaaaaaay to long. At this point, it should jump up to 70. They also need to add at least 2 new maps for each mission flavor (i.e. office, warehouse, etc.). I really do not care that my blaster can now blast in blue and black. I would much rather have some major new content introduced. Simply allowing you to switch sides and play the content that has been around for 4+ years is, well, lazy at best...and we are supposed to buy this as an expansion? Maybe I am way off base here but they really need to get content and get it soon. In the next 24 months, there will be some really amazing MMOs released (no, not talking about Champions whose graphics are annoying at best and actually ripped sounds straight from CoX).
C'mon...where is level 70?
Which wouldn't really help anything. It would require a bunch of powers re balancing, coding changes, etc... and all to, at best, temporarily pick up players' attention

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

Remember this is a PAID expansion so is going to be on par with the CoV launch if not more. So there will be new starting zones and potentially new content ranging from 1-50.
And I have to disagree with you about the level cap - 50 is fine by me. And there is talk that there will be Difficult tasks for level 50s to do that make them more powerful, although we dont know what that entails. But it sounds like more end game content.
But really there has just been SO little announced about going rogue that we cannot judge either way about how good/bad this issue is going to be.
I'm against raising the level cap. I'm having enough to do just to get to 50th.
Plus, look at WoW. They've raised the level cap twice, and they've had to almost constantly rebalance and tweak practically every spell and ability in the game, multiple times, due to the raised level caps in Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. And you can bet they'll have to do it again and again and oops, one more time (forgot the pally nerf) for Cataclysm.
Now, there's supposed to be some sort of alternate advancement possibilities in Going Rogue. What are they going to be? Who knows?
I'll tell you what I'd like to see in Going Rogue though.... (you know, besides Dual Pistols, which I am looking forward to).
Alternate advancement options that allow you to unlock costume parts for your account, not just the character you're on. (Just the costume parts, not any badges or accolades). As an example, let's say you've long since defeated 200 Council on an AR blaster, which unlocks the Council SMG. Well, fulfilling an alternate advancement option allows you to unlock all the costume parts, account wide, that defeating 200 Council would get you, like the Ascendant shields.
Likewise, you wouldn't have to wait months for a specific event to roll around to unlock holiday costume parts on a new character.
Or how about an alternate advancement option that allows you to unlock bonuses? Like a SG based one that gives you an additional percentage of Prestige? Or that opens up new SG base parts, or costume options that aren't previously available?
anyway, just my $0.02

Nah, I don't think they'd ever add anything like that to the game. Thbat would be silly.
@Roderick
Something like the ability to log out in a certain location, and after logging back in, gain a bonus to XP, Inf, Prestige or Salvage rewards on mission complete for a limited time?

I think the case with WoW or whatever is that they had always planned to raise the level cap and worked that into their power/ability balance from the initial design phases.
The game is balanced around level 50. Always has been. Extending out the level cap would require a lot of game balance work to make doable.

Not to say that there isn't a lot to balance in WoW, just that it seems easier to balance due to the way the game is designed. This same design also makes the game a lot stiffer in the way it plays, IMHO. I much prefer the looser feel that CoX has where you are free to slot anything that you can use and you don't have to grind for enhancements as much as you do with WoW. I hate grinding for loot and I severely dislike Bind on Pickup items. I found it. Why can't I sell it or give it away???
*Wanders off muttering about game designers who put in stuff that makes zero sense with regard to the way things should be if the MMO was in fact real*

It has also been confirmed by Positron in another interview that Praetoria would consist of multiple Zones.

Raising the level cap requires that the entire game, which was balanced around 50 levels, be rebalanced around the new cap. This would likely mean more levels between powers, and fewer slots per level without a new power, all to artifically inflate the game.
Our developers are smart enough to know that a level cap raise is a temporary fix for a permanent problem. They also realize that they don't need to do the extra work to rebalance the game, all they need to do is add more content. With many major systems upgrades out of the way (with the exception of a graphics upgrade which has been hinted at), I think the Devs are going to be able to refocus on new content and powersets to keep them fresh against their competition.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)

Jan/Feb are two of the slowest retail months of the year (everyone spent what they had for Christmas), so I would think a Spring 2010 release for a retail box would make more sense.
