Self Heal - Why don't some of you have it?
I have a DB/SR scrapper in the making. right now she is at lvl 37. I was looking at a few builds and I was a bit surprised to see that some of the /SR builds had no self heal. Why is this? Are you dependent on that defender or controller to heal you or is your build that IO-ed out that you just really wont get that one devastating blow to the head and go down for the count? Plz do tell. I saving up alot of money....for what I don't know. I have alt-itis and I'm lookin to get that one toon that I can resort to as my AV and task force go to hero. I have a 50 DM/SR, but he has siphon life.

On my IOed out invul scrapper, I know I sometimes went for multiple missions or TFs without activating Dull Pain or Aid Self, taking the alpha on team-sized spawns and not getting heals from teammates. Hell, I think I might have soloed a few AV without DP or Aid Self. It's most likely the same for IOed SR scrappers.
Stacking a heal on SRs defenses still makes it a lot stronger in the situations where you actually need the added mitigation, the question is are you often enough in these situations to warrant devoting two power picks for it ?
Well, I'm usually getting healed by someone, but sometimes those healers die. There always that one time though where I'll take a big hit and I lose like half a bar before I get healed. I'll get really low and take a step or two back and aid self and jump back in. I'm lvl 37 right now and I haven't got into the set bonuses for this toon. Especially since the market is being gouged at the moment.

Never felt like I needed one.

I don't agree with the poster who says that heals are overrated. They aren't, but then, they aren't always essential either.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
My Fire/SR scrapper has Aid Self, the problem (With SR especially) for scrappers is that you can only have 4 pool powers. My Fire/SR got the Tough pool for more defense, Hasten, Fitness, and Aid Self; all 4 pools taken and any other power i want from there isn't possible. I had to skip a travel power mainly for that reason, i could have taken Super Speed but i decided not to.
But i do believe Aid Self is the most helpful for SR. The other secondaries have a form of healing in their powers, but SR doesn't; that and it's easiest to heal while dodging attacks.
For those who don't care about the 'no inspirations' rule that some abide by, green inspirations are more than enough.
For my SR, I just couldn't be bothered to go without a travel power for the rather small benefit that Aid Self offers. I had enough regen that I rarely needed a heal unless I got hit HARD. Like, Cimeroran Boss hard or Rikti Boss hard. And in those cases I'd have a green insp or two handy. It's not like I was using the dang things for anything else. Mind, I never tried doing high level no-insp stuff like the RWZ Challenge or AV soloing. If you're into that kinda thing you probably want Aid Self. Otherwise, meh.
Why no self heal?
1: My claws/sr has 20% DamRes to Smash/Lethal without even considering the passive scaling DR.
2: He sits at the defense soft cap to melee, ranged and aoe defense at all times.
3: He has capped defense debuff resistance.
4: He has Over 1800 hit points and regens at 27 hp/sec.
5: The only self-heal option open to him would be aidself which has a stupidly long animation which cuts into his damage output.
I solo AVs without a self heal. Therefore, no need of one.
Be well, people of CoH.
You only need a self heal on a /sr that is softcapped for doing over the top av soloing and pylon challenges and stuff like that. My ma/sr's stats are probably similiar to billz's up there, although I haven't tried solo'n AVs cause I don't have aid self, and I heard it was needed for it. The power doesn't fit my toon is the reason I never got it, and I fly, have tough/weave, fitness, 9 sr powers, and a lot of the primary, so it would take a sacrifice to fit it in.
99% of the time that I play my ma/sr, i don't look at my health bar, and only look at blue during really, really long fights.
If you're going DM/SR you won't need Aid Self because you have Siphon Life. When slotted properly you will have a nice 300 point heal.

Exactly, why spend two power choices on something that popping a green or two could do just as well, and without having to worry about being interrupted. My DB/SR seems to not get hit much at all since I've hit the softcap, I'm carrying fewer greens and purples now.

Tray full of oranges for me...
I do have aidself on my claws/sr. Just nice to know it's there when ever I need it. But I'm doing things that would usually kill me if I don't have it.
My bs/inv, claws/inv and fm/sd however does not have it.
Enough HP, resists and regen usually negates the "need"...
I have a claws/sr that as of lvl 44ish has approx 48% melee, 44% ranged, and roughly 38% AoE def. All without tough/weave. Once I gain the lvl requirements to slot the 2 remaining zephyr set IO's my AoE will be around 44%.
I have all of my secondary and all of the primary that I want.
What powerpicks can I realistically get any use out of? 44 stimulant. 47 aidself. 49 caltrops.
Leadership is teh suxxor for scrappers. I already have travel and fitness.
Suggest something else and Ill take a listen too. Please.

My recommendation: Don't take it. Save your money and IO out your toon
I couldn't live without a self heal, personally
Heck, even with SL slotted for healing/recharge I still gets pwnt by some of the top end AVs (Recluse, Statesman, Positron, etc)
Greens.
This game is easy. On a good build against even seriously nasty enemies, you'll be better off popping a few greens to get you through. Against most content, a good build won't even need those greens. So taking two powers just to get a slowwwwwwwwww, interruptible self heal would be a waste in most situations that this game will present you with. You really have to go out of your way to find extremely difficult content PLUS start introducing artificial restrictions like no inspirations before you need to pick up a self heal.
Now, that pretty much describes how I play the game. Absolute maximum levels of survivability require a self heal. So my IO'd out builds are always going to include a self heal. But I'm not going to need one for normal content.

Has anyone ever taken Aid Self on a Regeneration scrapper? Serious question

I agree with the stocking up on reds vice greens and taking aid self with my SR. For all those toons I also take energy torrent to get the knockdown effect on the mob, wade in and lay waste...if I need to, I'll hit another knockdown power and then aid self. For me this is every effective and I have no problem taking the other 1/2 of the map away from the main group and solo the mobs set for the 8 member team.
