AION? REALLY? Why do I not believe this? Maybe I am looking to much at now and not the expecation for growth in AION. I seen the gameplay of AION and it doesn't look shabby at all. I may give it a go in between my CoH off time. I'm taking a short hiatus because I am playing God of War 3 on hard mode. A game that truly takes so skill and reflexes.
But back to the thread. I played WoW a long time ago for like a week. Man, I just did not get into the whole dungeons and dragons theme. But i do find their pet interesting. And it's cool that their costume pieces actually mean something. I love my CoH though. I grew up reading comics and collecting the comic cards. What can I say...this is my "niche" but I'll be damned it I run around my real life city wearing tights. LOL! -
No one said that CoH was a failure. In my opinion CoX just doesn't live up to it's potential. There are numerous ways that CoX can be brought to glory in the public eye rather than just in the small groups. If WoW has 1.5 mill subscribers and we have that 165k (some of which aren't even playing anymore) then our CoX team might be doing something wrong.
People say the Sci Fi thing is a niche thing....well so is Dungeons and Dragons. I know alot of people who can stand running around in chain armor and shields slaying dragons and stuff. I know tons of people who grew up on comics rather than DnD. Each is it's own genre. CoX just hasn't been capitalizing on all the comic movies/shows that have came out and continue to come out. -
YES! CoX doesn't have very good advertising at all. Do they even have web ads? I heard of CoH back in like 2004 through word of mouth. Been on and off it ever since. I wonder how much a simple add showing some epic gameplay would cost. They need to jump on it! I'm sure plenty of CoX fans would contribute into campaigning this MMO around the world.
-
I was reading the massive awards page and thought to myself, "What would it take for CoX to be better than WoW?" This might be a hard question to answer other than one obvious solution.....WoW disappears.
But outside of that how is it that WoW remains on top? Is it that it has longevity? Is it that it's genre is the most popular? Is it that it has great expansion packs? Is it the graphics? What gives? I've been playing CoX on and off for a number of years now and I hate seeing the numbers dwindle. The streets are much more quiet than they used to be. Less raids going on. Ah, but the costume contests are still a plenty....in which I rarely win unless I happen to catch an early morning CC where like 10 people are there. (BIASED JUDGES!)
I just want to see CoX reign supreme. Do you think Going Rogue and Ultra Mode will help alot or just a little? I wonder how many folks will even be able to enjoy ultra mode with the system requirements and all. -
Hey all. This thread is probably less informative than most but I just thought I'd share my experience.
I've been playing CoH on a Mac for a while now. Bootcamped on my Imac 20in 2.0 Ghz. Then when the Mac client came out I played it natively (if that is even a word) I max it out at 4 GB of RAM. It ran ok, but still choppy. Especially in WW and Cimerora. I wish I could remember the average frame rate. I'll get it later. I gave my GF this computer when I bought the new Mac. With the new 27 inch 3.06 Ghz 4GB Ram and ATI Radeon 4670 (i think) with the 256 MB dedicated OMG I could not believe how smooth it ran. I even maxed out the graphics (world detail and character detail max res not windowed) This things runs so great. I never thought I'd get it to run so smooth. I cannot wait for the Ultra Mode. Later today I will post statistical data. -
Interesting. I actually overlooked the epic power pools. My defense would definetly be taken care of as far as blasters go. Anything else I'd just have to work on positional defense from set bonuses I'm assuming. Luckily for my I have 3 vet respecs if I need them AND of course dual builds capabilities. I only use one because I don't PvP and I don't have situational builds...it is what it is...a blaster.
-
Hello ladies and gentlemen. I am not a frequent blaster so I am a bit newb-ish when it comes to using pool powers. I was wondering if I should go with a the fighting pool for some mitigation and resistance. Don't get me wrong, being an ice/ice is cool because I have a number of powers at my disposal that aid in me not getting hit, but I'd like to up that percentage as much as i can. Also would the leadership pool be cool for a blasters endurance? Maybe I should just ask what pool powers would you recommend? I'm using Flight right now and I'd like to keep it. I don't have any set bonuses YET. I have about 100 mill to use so far (I know it's not alot)

Hey gang. I took a few month Hiatus from CoX. I got fed up with some issues that I have totally forgotten about. I took the plunge and went CO. Played it and enjoyed it for a couple weeks and then I quit. The game as it is right now isn't worth sticking with. I'm not even going to get into the details, but I began to miss CoX.
So I'm back and asking whats new with CoX? Has the community grown or changed any? Any new challenges to tackle? I sooooo missed the teaming in CoX. They don't call it an MMO for no reason. Other games AH HEM kinda forgot what that meant. -
Hey all. I am lvling up an ice/fire tank. I am at lvl 26. Do any of you have a solid "up to lvl 30" build for this type? I've ran a few tanks in my life, but I seem to be dying alot here. Even against the council with now vamps or wolves. Just mainly smashing and lethal damage. It's starting to get annoying how squishy my tank is up to this point. So far I've taken all the ice powers I can except for permafrost (holding of til later) and in the fire powers just the first 3. I took fly and air superiority (because I like to keep the bosses of of their feet) Would combat jump make me that much more survivable at this lvl? I can respec out of the fly pool. I have a few vet respec available to me. Plz help.
-
yeah, I most def wont be having a purple set yet. First and foremost is surviving. I haven't taken on any AVs solo and probably wont at this rate because of the lack of time I have to put into decking my toon out with purples. I don't even know which one I want to do yet. Maybe my DM/SR....or my Kat/WP. Dunno yet.
-
Quote:Hehe, I'm a scrapper...I already won. I like that LOL!The reason you're going to see /WP, /SR, /INV, /Shields more often than others, is IOs.
These are the sets than can be softcapped easier than the others. Softcapped defenses is GREAT mitigation.
What I find however, is people make use of these sets, and think they can be just as great with just using SOs, and skipping some of the powers that make these sets even better.
IE...The Fighting Pool.
Shields for example, really isn't all that, UNTILL, you get TOUGH/WEAVE and IOs going.
Ran with a lvl 50 Shield/ tanker, who kept faceplanting...wasn't IOed, didn't have Tough/Weave (or Aid Self in place of that).
Though that said, Shield Charge and AAO are just funSo, may not be all that survival wise without IOs and Tough/Weave, but oh, the pretty numbers you can put out makes up for it
This isn't to say I think everyone should min/max their toons, but they wonder why they aren't doing as good as some other similar tanker/scrapper, and begin to think the set is the sucky, that's why.
Electric Armor is new, so it's going to see some play, but I expect to see that die down, when people realize it's not all that, even with the heal. They can be IOed out to become monsters like the others, but takes alot more work to do so, and even then, they're still seen as the weakest monster compared to the others.
FA and DA lacking knockback protection doesnt help their perception either...plus they're older sets, so they lack what the newer sets do.
Now after all that is said...
Pick a combo..you're a scrapper...you've already won.
My problem with some sets taking more to make better is that not all of us have alot of INF to make some these sets work (ok we can make them work BETTER) And with the rate of the purple drops, I'm not sure if people would like building up the stash to make the set work. But these days it is easier to squeeze out more defense via set bonuses. You just have to plan accordingly I guess and Mids does help. I haven't played with mids enough, but I should. I should make a pre IO build and post IO build, but not purpled out builds. I don't have a purple set to my name. Just too darn expensive. And no one is trying to sponsor my toon. LOL! -
I dunno. Maybe my primary power let me down....Dual Blades. All i know it that I found myself in the hospital or getting revived more often than not. Which for me was a bad sign. And that probably backs up the statement that someone had made that people have different playstyles for different powersets. Maybe my playstyle was too aggressive? I dunno. But that was a while ago, and I'm willing to get every secondary a go-round and patiently get them up and "making them work" although I don't have the bottonless pockets of inf.
-
I'm not so much worried about the clickyness of a power, although I have tried regen and scrapped him. NOT because it was clicky, but at an earlier level i just didnt have the patience for dying so much. These days though I am more patient because I'd like to give each and every secondary a go-round and make my own declarations about each of them. So currently I have a DB/Elec and an Elec/dark. My DB/elec is up to lvl 19. So Im looking forward to the lvl 35 and lvls.
-
I like DM myself. I have a DM/SR and a DM/SD. I like both. Never tried a DM/WP, but it sounds lovely.
Sould drain and then shield charge is great.
The defense plus the -tohit for the DM/SR is also great to. Plus in SR you have quickness to supplement your recharge time on your powers. Great for siphon life especially. Practiced brawler is great mezz protection. Having /SR give you some great time to let your regen go to work. At the same time YOU MUST TAKE TOUGH! Because when you do get hit, you take the hit hard. Like Roy Jones getting knocked out. -
Werner, you should try MA/FA up to 50. It might be a different experience. But maybe part of my ignorance to the lesser used sets could be do to me reading these forums all the time. I hear horror builds left and right about this and that. I had a fire/stone tank up 36. Just wasn't working out well for me. Not that i was dying alot, but I had the keep the ground shaken in order to keep the baddies occupied. I think it just wasn't tanky enough though. It almost felt like a glorified scrapper minus the damage output.
Oh and my bad for referring to Katana as Ka. I was on my Iphone and I got lazy and complacent. lol. -
I'm no CoX experts so I haven't tried alot of combos. I did run an Ma/Fa to like 24 I think and "scrapped". Him. Had a Ka/Da a few years back and scrapped that too, but I may give it another go since it improved. Maybe even fire/da. I guess that's the beauty of the game...to try out the many combinations and see what works for for me.
-
But the weak sets require a healthy amount of inf to be strong though right? If so then that kinda messed up. The casual player might be pushed away for this or that set because the secondary wasn't cutting it up to say lvl 30. But I degress, SR for me wasn't always the beast it was. That was my first toon a few years ago and man I died ALOT! I stuck it out though.
-
Hey all. I've been playing CoX on and off for a little over 3 years. This is the year that I got a little more serious or in depth shall I say with building and tweaking a toon. The other day I was looking to create a new scrapper toon and I was a bit undecisive due to the nature of some power sets. I don't mean to seem like a whiner, but why are some powersets SEEM more doable than others? Like I see way more /sr /wp /inv and /SD running around than lets say a /FA or /DA. ElA is probably a running around more because it's fairly new. Or like why are more baddies more resistant to lethal and smashing while fire is one of the more less resisted attacks out there.
I could be wrong in the above mentioned statements, and I'm sorry if I am or sound totally n00bish or something. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the choices we have.
Is CoX an even playing ground for the many different combination of toons we can create? Like are there just as many lethal resistant baddies as there are negative resistant? Do you guys get what I am saying? I mean, this wont make me stop playing CoX. I think this question kinda came about when I found my DB/Elec taking longer to chop down enemies my DM/Sr. And my DM is mostly single target.
Ok, precautionary flame suit on.
GO! -
I had a fire/shield up to 41....deleted him. alot of DPS, but I seemed to die alot. But months later I try a DM/ shield, and I had a blast with him. Hard times in the 30s, but I worked through it and slotted some IO sets. Now I am 50 with him on the verge of making him my farming monster. Sould drain then shield charge is LOVE. When there is no tank around, I step up and say I'll take the alpha strike. Everyone is on the ground and the rest of the team has time to get in an attack or two to finish them off. I also had alot of fun with my Kat/WP. I had nice survivability wilst having no self heal. divine avalanche was a great tool. As for a tank I loved my Inv/Dm. People always asked me how I got him to be such a beast. Mostly single target, but when I sould drain and do my cone attack it was also love.
-
To my understanding the weaken and empower combos are better for the early lvls as they provide some much needed debuffing.
-
This is my first time trying to make a very good build. I have a few 50s (those that I didn't farm up to 50) This Dm/Shield and my Kat/Wp are the only toons that I have alot of set bonuses on and am currently trying to kinda tighten up. I also have a Dm/sr, but I'm not sure if I have much fun with him. I can try to make him nice as well and it would be easier, but I dunno. Just seems a little more boring to a degree. I don't have him as pimped out so to speak like my others. My DM/shield is one that I'd like to turn into my "farm juice" influence bank. But thanks everyone for the inputs. Keep them coming. I'd like to tighten this up with stuff that is within my means ya know.
Is there a way to import the build data to the cohplanner online version? -
Thanks for the build Santorican. That something more manageable. Now I have to try to see how I can sell off what I can from my current build. I have a couple vet respecs left. Also, I noticed there was some excess melee defense in there. I might think about replacing the Smite touch of death for something else. Also, you don't recommend slotting siphon life for healing purposes? No frankensloting? Hmmm, don't get me wrong this does seem like a good build. The recharge is great compared to what I got. But yeah, lookin at this I'd have alot to try to somehow sell off. Any suggestions as far as the selling goes as to HOW?
-
Hey thanks for the info Igor. Yeah I know it was a trainwreck of a build. Thats why I come to you guys. I didn't know phalanx was unenhanceable. I coulda saved alot of those slots. I'll check out that link you gave more for some more insight. Thanks again. I have two respec left (veterans) so I can deal with it. I just need the inf. lol
-
Hey all. I dinged 50 recently and now I want to work on getting this build better. Maybe even up to AV soloing standard (I know alot of money that I really dont have) SO, I know my build is kinda spotty (bad choice of words) so I need some holes filled in. I ALMOST have my defense capped, but not quite. And I also would like to get some more recharge up and squeeze in some more of whatever I can without totally getting all purpled out. I'm not ready for the purple sets yet. This will be my first project on a super build. This is also my first time using Mid's so sorry if it a lil messed up. Take a gander.
