Looking for the FUN again!
If you have a scrapper that can handle staying in the middle of a mob of 25 +8 enemies for five minutes, I'm afraid my game knowledge isn't enough to know of anything better or even equal, performance wise.
Nonetheless, I think you should try shield scrappers. I could go ahead and list their numerous strengthes, but "it's fun" sums up the whole thing (especially Shield Charge) pretty well.

Having said all this, I would suggest you make a Katana/Invuln. Excellent survivability when DA is stacked with Invuln's defense levels, good AoE damage, good ST damage, and it blooms early so it'll be fun for all 50 levels.
I'd second shields. Considering shield charge alone puts Blaster AoE output to shame, you haven't experienced power until you've played a shield character.
Or you could do a claws/willpower brute
Not to just shaft Nihili here, but I wouldn't suggest shields. It blooms very late which makes it difficult to resist the urge to delete it. I've also found it to be a bit squishy for my liking, until it is totally IO'd out and at the softcap. I also don't like that you pretty much have to take every power in the set, and it doesn't leave much room for power pools. |

Shield being defense based, it stacks very well with team buffs/debuffs and inspirations ; these same inspirations rain from the sky seeing how fast Shield scrappers can kill stuff. The resistances / max HP aren't too shabby if you slot for it as well. AaO is also a great aggro aura, making the toon capable to tank for teams on SOs.
I did just that the whole weekend (with the exception of a steadfast +3 def, everything was common IOs), either on PuGs or soloing, so I know it works.

50 Claws/WP Scrapper. Highest DPS in game, 7 toggles including FA --> no end problems! |
lol
I heard bubblers with 1 unslotted attack was fun maybe you should try those?
Well, not to start an argument, but now I feel I have to defend my case.

Well, I find it hard to believe anyone could tank with only genric IOs and no inspirations (and a steadfast). Even with that, and some pool picks to raise defense you're still looking at around 30% defense. With 1 luck running all the time, I am sure tanking was an easy feat. However, I prefer using sets like WP and invuln that do not require inspirations to tank.

Now if you specifically mean DA + Invul/WP + cornerpulling, that's another story (a story that is specific to katana and BS, and not relevant to all invul and WP builds), but nothing's stopping anyone from making Parry + Shield + cornerpulling either... I'd argue DA/Parry and cornerpulling stack much better with Fire or Dark anyway.
When I said I prefer WP/invince b/c they do not require as many outside buffs to work, I was referring to level 50. Any scrapper is going to have a difficult time tanking w/o insps/buffs at lvl 22. I realize my wording was a bit confusing so I apologize for that.
I had a fire/shield up to 41....deleted him. alot of DPS, but I seemed to die alot. But months later I try a DM/ shield, and I had a blast with him. Hard times in the 30s, but I worked through it and slotted some IO sets. Now I am 50 with him on the verge of making him my farming monster. Sould drain then shield charge is LOVE. When there is no tank around, I step up and say I'll take the alpha strike. Everyone is on the ground and the rest of the team has time to get in an attack or two to finish them off. I also had alot of fun with my Kat/WP. I had nice survivability wilst having no self heal. divine avalanche was a great tool. As for a tank I loved my Inv/Dm. People always asked me how I got him to be such a beast. Mostly single target, but when I sould drain and do my cone attack it was also love.
Back when willpower came out I made a tank so I could try all the new powers much quicker than playing a scrapper. After trying them all out, I decided to make a DB/WP Scrapper. DB was interesting at first, but it was slow to come of age and the damage just wasn't there.
So I looked at the powerset comparison on Mids. It said that the highest DPS for a scrapper was Claws. Wait a minute... Claws?? This was always known as a low damage set. My choices always steered clear of it. But if Mids said that it was the highest DPS I would give it a go.
My first power was Strike. I had tried swipe on one character 6 months before and hated the low damage (he was deleted). So this time I tried Strike and WOW! Non-enhanced and I could almost one-shot the npcs. With a base recharge of only 3.2 seconds, this was looking good. When I got my first AoE power "Spin" I enhanced it as soon as possible and headed to the large mobs in Perez Park for fast leveling.
On this character I didn't train my first defense "Mind Over Body" until I got Recovery at 20. This was tough, but doable. Just relied on Fast Healing.
Anyway this was my first level 50 character in over a year. The ones between were just alt trials. Since I started playing computer games in 1975, online games from 1982 and mmogs starting in 1999, I have never played a more powerful and FUN character before this scrapper. When I was 42 I sk'ed with a 8 player team doing a level 50 mission. After a while I was very bored when they were trying to pull out only a couple at a time. So I broke from the group and went past the SK limit back then of 200 feet, making me 42 again. Got myself in the middle of a large mob -- 25 or so. After about 5 minutes the team leader asked me how I was doing. Told him that I was having FUN! I was taking very little damage and of what I did take was being regenerated back (I had tough and weave fully slotted).
I also had Conserve Power trained from the Body Mastery epic pool. Later when changes to the pool were made, I respec'ed to Focused Accuracy and Physical Perfection. Using only regular IO's I run 7 toggles including FA constantly and don't have any endurance problem. (claws being a low endurance set).
ANYWAY...
I have been trying to find another character that is just as fun. I have not found one yet.
Any ideas?
