Wiff! Anyone else missing attacks?

Quick Question: Has anybody else noticed if they are missing on their to-hit rolls, missing on their attacks. It seems that my level 50 stalker has been WELL below average on his to-hit success lately. (I usually moniter my to-hit roll and will glance up when I miss). My Martial Arts Stalker is slotted around 65% to hit bonus in attacks with a Touch of Death Set, Mako Set, and 2 Kinetic Combat Sets + acc/dam/rech in my 4 melee attacks (including Assassin Strike) and a Thunderstrike Set in Dark Blast. I usually have 95% to hit white/yellow/orange minion class mobs.

This morning I counted 25 misses out of 95 attacks, average to-hit roll was 90% (only fought 1 Boss during that run). I then hit the next 15 in a row (blue minions) running the count to 25 of 110, still well below average. I will admit that it is a small sample size but it was certianly noticable.

Anybody else notice a change.

I was noticing the same sort of thing last night on one of my scrappers. He seemed to be missing WAY more than usual.

I will have to keep an eye on it for a bit and see if I can figure out any pattern.

Double check with hero stats, or save your chat log and go through it to make sure.

Hero stats is showing 85% (vet powers)-95% (regular powers) to hit for me and that's after running a Katie Hannon TF, with all the to hit debuffs that the Cabal use.

No accuracy nerf here.

I was having the same feeling on my War Mace Brute, but I ran HeroStats and everything added up. I reached the conclusion that it was purely psychological; War Mace attacks hit so hard that you really notice when they miss.

It's just a case of randomness being quite random, and not always in your favor. Alternately, enemies with defense.

Also, I was running my Fort earlier, taking on BABsy and Mynx, and had no accuracy issues there.

Cones, AoEs and PBAoEs can make it appear as if your single-target attacks are missing more frequently by forcing the streak breaker to kick in at the "wrong" time. Were you using any cones, AoEs or PBAoEs?

I find it more of an issue when I solo. When I miss, it's screaming at me. I'm always running with a 95% last hit chance on all my powers. 92% on +3 mobs and still hit most of the time. Once in a while, I'll get a couple of powers that miss back to back, but over all, the percentages are still showing correct in Herostats. I just think the misses scream at you more then all the good hits.

I've had a few fights recently where it seems like I'm missing a lot more, but it usually turns out to be something in the group of bad guys that has defense buffs when everything else in the pack didn't.

Thing is, we hit our target so often that missing is so much more noticable and noteworthy. I've been known to scream whenever a Build-up/Aim Snipe misses more than once a mission, but sometimes that 5% chance to miss at any time likes to meet its quota within five minutes. In the end, it's just bad luck.

Martial Arts/Super Reflexes Stalker: Storm Kick, Crippling Axe Kick, Eagles Claw, Assassin Strike, and Dark Blast for single target goodness.

I was fighting Crimorians during the streak and I know they stack Defense w/shields but my to-hit on them was still 95% for the white minion class. Amazingly I died to a level 52 Boss and minion (soft-capped Def) during the wiff streak and that hasn't happened in a Looooonnnng time. That's what made me notice. The to-hit check on the boss was about 70% but jumped up when I defeated the minion.

Side note: During the wiff-fest 10 of the 25 misses were on the 95% to-hit check.

Your not alone. There has been alot of talk within my teams lately with reguards to missing alot more than usual. Noticably alot more and it has just started.
I have noticed the hit/miss ratio to be noticable increasing in my main toons I play.
My Stalker---AS seems to miss 1/4 times at this point before it was 1/10 times maybe but never missed every time on a placate or with inspires added to the mix. Now i am feeling unreliable with reguards to my Stalker.
My other main Kin---It is very noticable when the Transference, Transfusion, and FS miss very disturbing......

I haven't noticed anything different. Have you been playing another game recently? I know that whenever I switch between games, I'm always surprised when I miss in other games whereas in CoH, I expect to see it happen enough that I don't think it's weird when it does.

Since we got the Beginner's Luck buff it's been much nicer. It used to be that in the lower levels I almost felt surprised when I did hit something.

One of these days, I'm expecting a patch note to say "nerfed accuracy". Then a zero-size patch the next day with patch notes that say, "fixed accuracy."

Because they never actually nerf accuracy.

I hate that feeling, that sadly I experienced all to often...

I actually have my to hit rolls to print at the chat box, and I confess I smile when I see all of my attacks are pegged at the 95% chance to hit probability; after all I well go out of my way to ensure ultra high accuracy, for what good is to hit very hard, if you never hit?

What I have seen at times, is the game random number generator is much less than random, and seems to get easily stuck at certain number areas. I notice when I am missing like 75% of the time, despite I have a 95% chance, I immediately go to my chat box and scroll up to check on my rolls; only to find that I been getting rolls beween 90 and 99%, and thus I am missing about 75% of the time, since the game does not afford me the other 89 chances, for whatever reason. On other occassions, but much more less frequent thant the stuck high, it has been stuck low, and all I can do is crit anything that gets on my way, which I must confess is quite gratifying.

In the past, I have challenged the random number generator and had asked for ways a player could kick free the "stuck" random number generator, such as having the means to apply a seed, or something you could do to generate a new random seed.

Unfortunatley, too many players, simply say random is random, and your luck is simply bad, and therefore there are no problems, the game is perfect.

While I accept that ramdoness is inherently "random", still statistical principles and trends tend to be consistent, so if I have a mathematical chance to miss 5 times out of 100, I should only miss 5 times in a one hundred roll sample.

But when I miss 20 times out of 100, its indicative of a stastistical anomaly or a problem.

I would like to point to the statistical principle of Standard Deviation, in which the alledged grouping will fall about 80% of the time, that means that 80 sets out of 100 sets of 100 rolls; will yield only 5 misses per 100 roll. Of course the other 20 sets of 100s could have actually less misses or more misses.

At times, I do feel, I am operating at the 1 Sigma deviation; which I find acceptable. But at times, I do experience a swing beyond the 1 sigma, which is unacceptable, and can if held to it too long a game busting experience.

If you feel, like the game rolls as off, simply record several sets of 100 rolls, and then study it. If in the first 100 rolls, and if you have a 95% chance to hit, you should miss 5% of the time, give or take 17% of the time to remain in the 1 sigma stastical variation; that would place you in a range from only missing 2 to 7 times per hundred rolls; a 2 sigma standard variation would yield no to 9 misses per hundred; a 3 sigma would yield a no to 11 misses per hundred; and so on.

So if you think, your hits or miss is odd, make sure to have rolls reported in your chat, and colelct the data in sets of 100 and form an opinion.

I haven't noticed anything like this.

You should keep in mind, though that with the way human mind works it may seem that you miss more often if you're expecting to hit with each strike.

Monitor your last chance to hit to detect getting debuffed. I'm sure the game is calculating things exactly the same way it has for the last 5 years. Computers are funny that way.

The commentary above is very true...

Before you go to tears over it, as I do on occasion, make sure that the miss roll you are having an issue with, that your attack power was at 95% chance to hit. You need to ensure all of your attack powers are at 95% chance, and keep up with game variances such as your debuff, or the mobs getting a defense buff such as MOG, for instance. If you are having probability changes, it becomes much more difficult to determine if you are or not suffering from a deviated probability.

About the only thing I noticed was on one attack, I missed 5 times in a row. It had be jumping up and down, but then I started hitting again. Very weird.

Found this out after taking a hard look at the combat chat. I had just picked but not enhanced Cloak of Fear with my DB scrapper. A closer look revealed the base accuracy of 0.67.. miss miss miss.. I threw in some accuracy enhancements at first opportunity, and passed the knowledge along to a few friends.

I'm betting it's psychological. I couldn't tell you about the times when I hit with my stalker doing buildup+assassin strike. But I can darn well remember those times when I missed.

I noticed it a few months ago when I caught a single-target attack missing twice in a row. I spent about an hour doing math to try to figure out how it could have happened and trying to replicate it so I could get a screenshot of the Hit Rolls channel (i even had a long, detailed PM all typed up and ready to send to Castle), then saw it happen again and realized that it was because I had a minion wandering around next to me while I had Oppressive Gloom toggled on. The first single-target attack that missed had triggered the streak breaker on OG's next pulse, which caused the missed hit roll on the next single-target attack to remain a miss due to the streak breaker having already granted me a forced hit with OG.

I think I recall actually cursing out loud at the game that day. >.<

I looked into this same thing a couple of years ago when a friend had the same complaint. He said his DM/DA scrapper was missing all the time. I did some tests on my own DM/DA scrapper and checked the combat log. I found that the combination of OG and the streakbreaker code was forcing misses on some of my other attacks.

I don't pretend to understand streakbreaker, but when you mix high-accuracy and low-accuracy attacks (temp powers like Sands of Mu or damage or stun auras that aren't slotted for accuracy), the streakbreaker appears to force misses at inconvenient times.

If you're running with one of these auras try turning it off and see if you feel like you're hitting more often.
