Just wondering but would it ever be posible to by a Lifetime Subscriptions option like they did in chapoins Online?

No, the offer for Champions is only good till the end of the month, I believe, and will likely never be offered in that game again either. It's an incentive to get players quickly, and get a bunch of money back to further development. It's pretty much a reward for those willing to roll the dice and invest a semi large chunk of cash on an unproven product.

Offering something like that 5 years on would probably be greatly detrimental to the game at this point, all the long term players would immediately jump on it and start putting the pinch on the devs later as their income started to dry up.

Yes. Your standard $14.99

Come on...
CoH/CoV EU doesn't even have an annual (1 year) sub option.

Quote:
Current UK/EU Plans
  • 1 month: £8.99
  • 3 months: £23.99 (equivalent to £7.99 per month)
  • 6 months: £44.99 (equivalent to £7.49 per month)

    Limited Time Offer
  • 6 months + 1 month free: £44.99 (equivalent to £6.42 per month)
Working on the UK prices £8.99 x 12 = £107.88, even £6.99 x 12 = £83.88

Therefore UK's annual sub (if it existed) would be roughly £85

However I could conceiveably see them offering a lifetime sub for roughly £500 (60 months @ about £8.33 / month)

But I would hope that this would immediately unlock:
  1. All the veterans rewards.
  2. All the unlockable costume options.
-----

Note:
If I compare this to CO's opening lifetime offer (in USD), $199 for CO lifetime sub, including Beta access to Cryptic's STO MMO.

Note for Rednames/Devs:
The CO information added above is for reference/comparison purposes only.

They're never going to offer a lifetime subscription for this game at this point. It's unprofitable in the long run, and they know that the players who would buy it are hooked anyway. Let alone one that makes Veteran Rewards instant, that would immensely piss off everyone who doesn't have said lifetime subscription.

Lifetime subscriptions offer a very specific resource to the production house/developer. They're designed to quickly regain capital when the game launches, as there has been no revenue for months on end. To paraphrase Jack Emmert, Cryptic sold itself to Atari to keep the lights on.

When you've had a steady stream of subscription fees for 5 years on end, you don't need lifetime subscription offers to get yourself into the black.

Ouch. That blows.

Never. Even if they did go nuts and offer lifetime subs, you only get the vet rewards after you have actually been playing long enough. They have ALWAYS worked that way, even for people paying a full year in advance. And before someone says, "Just because it was that way in the past, doesn't mean that..." Yes, it does. Otherwise they're screwing over their existing customers. Not a good business policy.

If they did start offering lifetime subscriptions, I would start getting worried that they are expecting to close up shop within a year. The only way it would be profitable (assuming the same pricing levels)

I really hate you right now >_< but yeah. Those type of subs are a big gamble for both sides.

i could see it as a 60 month vet reward. i mean seriously, after 60 months of paying they should get a shot at a lifetime membership. they paid their dues.

They'd also likely pay for another 60 months without the offer. A lifetime sub at this point in the game's life would be financial suicide, or so expensive it'd be more economical to pay monthly.

I don't think it's as bad as you make it sound. LOTRO offered lifetime subscriptions right off the bat, took them away for a couple years, then brought them back, and the game is doing fine.

There will always be people who can't afford to drop $200+ bucks all at once for a lifetime subscription, especially if it's only offered for a limited time.

There will always be altaholics who buy yet another account (plus accessories) that may need to be paid for monthly.

There will always be microtransactions and expansions to bolster the income that could potentially be lost by offering lifetime subs.

Personally, I'd like to see a lifetime sub offered to 70+ veterans, either as a "pay this much now and never pay again" thing, as a reduced monthly fee, or perhaps as a "buy x months get x months free" offer much like the one they are offering right now. "Hey, you spent a grand on us, have some real swag" would be nice.

Nah. They're out to make money, and they know 70 month vets aren't going anywhere.

Presently I have two accounts. One for myself (primary) and one for my wife (secondary) and since I play much more than she does both are paid by myself naturally. It would be nice to have my primary account become a lifetime subscription and keep paying for my wife's since it would help me save some money (especially at this point in time after my hours got cut) while still paying normal price for my wife's game account.

I've played the CO beta recently an it just feels like too much busy work (i.e. to go location x,kill/save person y and return to z to do it again 5 or so times without any real veriety) and personally I would NOT pay 15 bucks a month for that game.

If I had the cash I would only consider playing it if I had a lifetime sub since I wouldnt have to worry about paying extra cash to play the WoW/CoH knockoff (face it folks that's exactly what it is from the interface all the way down to the sound effects and animations.)

I'm probably going to get some flak for that but screw it,it is the truth.I've paid for this game since I like it but if I had that chance to get a lifetime deal I would and still keep paying for my second account plus the perk boosters that they release not to mention the extra toon slots and what have you.

It would be nice, but generally lifers are offered at the start or before a major investment to geta big cash infusion right away. It is a gamble because if people stay the standard time (3 months by some estimates) then they made out well, but if they are like myself and quite a lot of cohers, and have over 60 months, then we become unprofitable. So its a gamble. they gamble that a percentage will quit, a percentage will stay and be a loss, but will be loyal and good pr, and a portion will pay the standard rate and take it in the shorts. and its a percentage on the gamer's part that the game will stay up and not make a massive horrible decision(swg comes to mind) to kill the game for you. If they did it now here, I would pull the trigger in a second.

I'd agree something like that would be nice from a player's point of view. It would make things fairly convenient for some people.

But as others have said at this point in the game's lifecycle a lifetime sub offer could only be seen as a bad omen that the Devs have given up and expect the game to go down the tubes relatively quickly. I've been paying for this game annually for years now and that's close enough to a "lifetime sub" for me. Personally I still like this game enough that I actually don't mind giving them money for it. I consider it a vote of confidence from me for a job well done.
