Using the forums at work

I sometimes browse the forums at work and I am located in an open office.

Is there some way I can make them look more professional (for example remove the background picture of Statesman and Paragon City) so people that happen to look at my computer do not realize what I am reading?

Preferably I would like only text if possible

I know there's a text-only "mobile" version, but for the life of me I can't remember how to manipulate the URL to get to it. It's not a normally-selectable theme.

I've turned off signatures and images, then added the following AdBlock Plus rules:

Code:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/styles/coh/gradients/*
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/styles/coh/misc/background.jpg
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/styles/coh/misc/logo.png
That removes the annoying gradients that make the text harder to read and blocks the background image and the logo at the top of the page.

Turning off images and signatures has the side benefit of making the forum more browsable on my phone as well (using Opera Mini on a SE c902)

Lol I love the forum handle. So very fitting for this topic ( I also sit around and goof off half my workday on these sites...)

That being said, you can always go the lowtech option like I did... use the privacy film on your monitor so only you can really see clearly. You should have plenty of time to shut down any offensive websites before prying eyes look too closely heh.

If you use Firefox at work, you can use a plugin called Stylish, which allows you to change the way the forum looks.

Zombie_Man made a couple new skins which do exactly what you want. I love them:

I thought that as well while I was browsing down the thread list, "Using the forums at work" + "TimeWellSpent" = lulz.

Create an elaborate word-switchout system that replaces CoX and game-related terms with work-related terms.

Reminds me of that fake 404 error page that states "YOUR BOSS IS COMMING! RUN" if you read it.

Glad you all liked my name :-)

If I am stuck with Internet explorer due to company policy, what can I do? Seems all the suggestions were dependent on Firefox

Someone smarter than me might be able to answer this better, but can't you block the background/title images directly from the Hosts file?

Yeah im on IE due to company regulations as well, thats why I went with the low tech privacy film option... creating an elaborate word switchout system seems too much like ...work to me, and thats why im on here goofing off- I dont feel like working!

IE 8? My sympathies.

CTRL+Shift+F should get you the InPrivate Filters which will allow you to configure ad blocking. Then you should be able to just add the pathway to the images you want to block.

Any ideas how to get the same result on Safari for the iPhone?
