Freeform Respecs
After reading all the replies, I can't think of one single person who likes doing a respec. The few folks I know that actively do them are usually people who haven't been around that long and have no real idea of how much hassle it really is. I know I don't look forward to doing them at all, and really hate myself when I make a mistake in power selections because I wasn't paying attention at the time.
This certainly would be a great addition to the game's QoL.
A partial, non-tedious respec would be a great addition for those wanting to change only a few slots or non-destructively replace a few enhancements.
No definitive list of what improvements are going into GR even with summer around the corner, so still hoping some form of updated respec process is on someones desk, especially with powers changes, dual builds and any new IO's.

Well said, I just helped my wife rework her claws/wp brute last weekend, and using mids was a breeze placing slots and IO's to just the setup to maximize how she wants to use it, but then the actual respec took easily twice as long, including the reorganizing of all your trays, temp powers/accolades/vet powers/pets.
Increasing the number of enhancement slots for storage during respec would also be a huge QoL upgrade, but one thing at a time.

never going to happen. the dev's have stated that we are lucky to be able to save any at all. don't hold your breath on this one.

It's just a side wish, the respec process getting updated is the big QoL upgrade.
But I don't think 'never going to happen' is set in concrete anymore, like it used to be, so who knows, if there's enough interest generated they're willing to give whatever a look.
Some sort of Mids-style respec setup is what a lot of us, maybe most of us truthfully, are wishing for.
There are probably 10 to 12 characters that I should respec, but don't, simply because I consider it a major hassle. If we could just substitute one power, or move just a few enhancements, I would do them in a heartbeat.
I would even spend a good deal of influence to get a "special" mid's-like respec. How's that for an influence sink?

Or maybe a special respec recipe with the mids-like options, how much do you think that's fetch on the market.
I love these definitive statements. Makes the person stating them appear to know what they are talking about, when in reality he/she is guessing just as much as everybody else.

If enough people are interested in it (or anything reasonable) I believe it will be given serious thought, and may only be a matter of free manpower time.
After all, respecing is a fundamental character tool, and compared to it's equivalent in Mids, the games is outdated and user-unfriendly.
I even wonder if dual builds would benefit from an updated respec process.
i like this idea, i have a lvl 50 dark melee/stone brute i want to move just 1 enhance slot to a different power but dont want to go through the hassle of a respec

I thought I had already posted in here, then I saw that the little "you've posted in here" symbol wasn't on the thread symbol. Remedy this immediately, Agge! So I am doing so.
I would love... LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to freeform respec. I am accumulating several characters in the upper levels and it is practically work to respec them anymore. And having gotten a few VEATs up close to branching level, I shudder to think of respec'ing any of them.

why didn't you quote everything i said? here let me do it for you.

Things change, manpower, circumstances, budgets, directions, devs, etc. So the fact that one dev said that once may not mean anything a year or two from now.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will happen. But people said for a while that power customization and emailing items to yourself wouldn't happen either. But they both did.
So making definitive statements like you did aren't really worth much, if anything at all.
Because the rest wasn't relevant.

no one ever said power customization wouldn't happen. they said "at this time it won't happen". same thing for email. why does know one seem to get this right?
|
But many posters in the past stated that such things as mailing items, influence, etc would never happen. And those people were wrong.
So making statements like "it will never happen," is actually quite pointless. Because you just don't know that.
But it ups his post count and makes him happy.
Btw. I still like this idea and I hope something like this will be incorporated in the future.
Even if it will "nevah happen"... eh hem.

You know what tax week reminds me of? How much of a pain respec'ing is..
I like this idea too, AceMace. I'd like it even more if it included the abilty to lock the power trays and keep them set the way they were before the respec. Instead of the jumbled mess we get now.
THats why I hate respecs SO MUCH. Resetting the power trays to the way I like them.

Same here. I just moved one slot on my lvl 50 MA/SR scrapper. A dynamic respec would have been awesome. As long as it leaves my power trays alone too.
|
I just had to respec to test one power in my build last week, what a pain it is.
I've pointed this thread towards a couple devs, I really would like to see respec'ing updated from it's current 2001 model. =P
Would like to move enhancements around w/o wasting respecs myself. Being able to lock powers into place is a step forward. Would be a great QoL feature for 50s though.

And from what we've been told so far about Incarnates we may want to switch our builds around more often once the system is fully implemented, which, as everyone has mentioned is currently a pain in the rump.
For something that's such a large part of what you want your character to be, it's much too much of a messy time consuming process.
I really hope the Devs have a heart and give updating respec'ing a thought.
If they could configure a process remotely akin to Mids Hero Builder it would be hailed as the single greatest quality of life update in the games existence.

There is one issue: Enhancements. If you respec from the Fly pool to the Teleport pool, what are you gonna do with your Fly enhancements?

Step 2: .......
Step 3: Profit!
