What is going on? I cannot get damage badge

So I was AFK damage farming a bit and came back home and played the same character. I played for about an hour and I did NOT LEVEL AT ALL or anything of that nature. I go back to farm damage (For my Born in Battle accolade) and now the damage meter does not update.

What is going on? How do I fix it?

Edit: I should also note I am using the EXACT SAME MISSION. Its a newspaper mission in St. Martial.

There's other threads that address this in the forum, so I'll try and summarize:

First, the stupid question: You're sure you weren't in the AE, right?

Second, if you have any accolades (or possibly any other sorts of buffs) that raises your HP above the BASE LEVEL (so you have 225 BASE HP + 100 BONUS HP), any damage you take first takes off the bonus HP and (stupidly) that doesn't count toward the badge.

So, using Whimpitron up there (must be a petless MM):
  • He sets up an overnight. The guy he goes up against does 98 points of damage each hit. Absolutely NO work on the badge is done. Whimpitron pouts.
  • Next night, he finds a different guy, and gets 212 points of damage each hit! Whimpitron is somewhat disturbed to discover that only 112 points of it counts, but hey, it's damage.
  • Third night, Whimpitron figures he'll find someone who does 220 points of damage. He manages to make it through the night without dying, and makes much badge progress. Life is good.
CoT of various flavors are the usual suggested sadists to your part time, temporary masochist. There used to be a Rikti, but he does a double-damage type now and is a little on the deadly side.

Edited to add: You possibly, while playing, added a set enhancement that changed your bonus HP, which would have made that specific mission go from "useful" to "aw, crap."

Not quite. It's actually a lot simpler.

Regardless of how many HP you had before being hit, if your current HP after being hit are above your base HP, the hit doesn't count at all. If your current HP are reduced to an amount even 0.1 below base HP the whole hit counts.

Actually, careful testing has shown it's not quite that simple. Just because the extra HP are exceeded, does not always mean the full damage will count. And I have no idea why or what other extraneous factors are involved.

The only thing that appeared to be consistent is that if the extra HP were only exceeded slightly, the results were unpredictable. If the extra HP were exceeded by a massive amount, then all the damage would count.

I stated in my original post its the EXACT same mission. I went into a Council Newspaper mission and used a +2 Mekman minion. I come back home (And I gained about 1 million damage went from 500,000 to 1,500,00). I go and do Hardcase's two story arcs (and I did NOT level) and I go back to the mission and now I cannot get damage?

Even if my hp falls below 50% I cannot get it. NOTHING has changed.

I farm this badge in an Oro arc, using CoT Guides as my sadists of choice. I set the arc parameters to exclude enhancements and temp powers (IIRC). I enter ths mish, aggro a CoT Guide, and then hit Rest.

It took me about a month of strictly overnight farming to get the third-to-last damage badge this way. Since day job badges came along, I haven't done any damage farming, but I did estimate the last two damage badges would take approximately 4 months each of strictly overnight farming. Shorter if you did it during the day as well. I plan to re-start my damage farming later this year once I acquire all the day jobs.

Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.

1387 badges, and counting

It would be simpler for everyone if the devs got off their butt and made it that all damage counted, not just the one effected by Base HP.

Or dare I say that a reevaluation of certain badge requirements is not out of the question?

Dropping the zero from Empath was a great start. However it can still only really be obtained via the Arena, just a lot less Arena time.

Damage badge 3 and above (especially Immortal) are best obtained to only obtained via AFK farming.

The money badges: only via normal game play, transfers and marketing do not apply nor does money from AE mishes/farms/arcs. Yet the requirements for money badges 5 and 6 (Popular, Leader) do raise a question of their accuracy. 1 billion and 2 billion respectively.

Also there are some of the KILL X-AMOUNT badges that some question the requirements of: ie: Illusionists, Rikti Monkies to name a couple.

according to the devs, badges like empath were intended to be gained over multiple years of play and they had no idea people would farm for them >.>

That dreaded farm word but going on the totals you need for some of these badges I would even consider doing it myself, and I must admit I,m a self confessed farm hater

Funny how that works... my main hero, a mind/emp troller is now 48 months old and he still hasn't achieved his 4th healing badge (never farmed for it).

Thank goodness Devs don't intend for people to grind for badges!

I think what the devs failed to consider in their not completely misguided intention that certain badges should take years of normal play to earn, is that this game is built to encourage alts and as a result most people are not going to play one or two characters exclusively for the years it would take to get that badge. Heck, I can't play one character exclusively for a week at a time.

Well. . .3 years almost exclusively playing a thermal, and a good friend of mine (Ifrits on pinnacle server) still doesn't have all of them, I don't think she even has the 5th yet! =]

Got this from the support page.

Quote:
There are several safeguards built into the game's system that will restrict your character from earning credit toward damage badges if certain conditions are detected. We cannot disclose specifically what those conditions are, but one general example would be if you are standing in one location and continuously receiving damage while maintaining an effectively invulnerable state. These safeguards were implemented to help prevent exploiting.

If you are performing a specific activity and you find your damage credit is not going up, it is recommended you change what you're doing. As long as you play and complete missions, and help defeat enemies in combat, you generally should not run into this issue.
Haven't tested it to confirm if it is true, but it was supposedly posted yesterday.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

The date shows when the page was last edited/updated, but I'm certain it was originally posted a long time ago within the forums. I'm guessing somebody decided to finally put it on the support site to discourage people from damage farming. I have yet to run into any circumstance that actually prevents credit though. I damage farmed last night as a test, and it worked normally for me.

OK pretty sure this has been covered,

AE will not give you credit toward the damage badge.

I amfortunate to be a such a CoV geek I have 3 accounts I have thermals on my 2 main accounts I also have a friend wit 2 accounts and a thermal as well

basically we get a paper mish in grandville

the level of one of the lvl 50 thermals

we lk the person needing the damage badge pick a mob drop into rest and let them wail on that toon till they get the badge usually 1 night and 1 day will cover it the thermal just auto heals from a distance with cauterise

I did this just a few nights ago on my new stoney for BiB and it is still working as I was able to get the accolade the next day.

I hope one of the replies help you to overcome whatever is causing you not to get damage.

That explains a lot and goes along with my observations.
Its not easy to get damage badge progress with a Willpower character that relies on his by now about 40% additional hit points and the ability to quickly regenerate them, I can tell you. O: )

I also dont quite understand why they give bagde progress (or anything) while you are AFK or didnt do anything for a while. Shouldnt that be easy or are all night-farmers running bots that have them do something while they sleep?

Well, since a safeguard against that was not built in from day one, it would need to be added. I guess whatever amount of AFK farming occurs, the devs don't see it as a big enough problem to prioritize a fix for it.
