Interesting night.

So I kind of got my girlfriend addicted to the game. We live together and our computers are set up side by side. She will even shout "I just got a great hero/villain idea!" a few times a day. It's kind of cute.

She hates making female toons. She says, "The character creator is sexist! The girls behinds are all huge. They even have a BOOB slider. If I can make a character with breasts the size of beachballs I should be able to make a character with a package the size of a watermelon."

We have had some interesting conversations when we are both on a team and she decides to talk to me in game instead of turning her head and actually speaking to me. Last nights tops it.

She was playing her lowbie male tank.

Girlfriend: Hey can you invite Mr. Shapper?
Leader: i wud like to keep the team as small as possible so it dont get crazy, know him?
Girlfriend: Yes, he is my boyfriend. We are sitting right next to each other.
Teammate: ...bat for the other team?
Leader: r u a girl?
Girlfriend: Yes, please invite him.
Leader: u have a myspace or facebook?
Girlfriend: Yes, but i only give it out to close friends
Teammate: lol it's a dude he won't give it out.
Leader: sorry, i don't team with *******. y wont u give it out if ur a girl?
Girlfriend: Because I don't have to?
Leader: I told you i dont team with ******.
Girlfriend: Well, we play together so if you don't invite him I will join him.
*Invites me*
Me: Hello
Leader: Hello ****** ******
Me: I saw your whole conversation, you know that the most outspoken homophobes are the ones living in the closet, right?
Leader: **** YOU PIECE OF **** ****** ****** I AINT NO ****** UR THE ****** GO **** YOUR BOYFRIEND WHILE YOU **** YOUR DAD AND **** *** ****

*Leader kicks me and my girlfriend*

Then, the leader elaborates in broadcast his feelings about the whole subject.

So, we find a perfect opportunity to bring out our new characters, "Totally Fabulous" and "Richard Love".

We sign on and we ask him to invite us. He sees our flamboyant costumes and goes ape. I think he smashed his face on the keyboard cause all we saw was "ajhdaf klasfd fdjklsjklafdklfjas;lkfja sjkfjkl;asfd kl;asfdjkl;asfd " and him auto running into a wall.

We fear he had a heart attack.

So, if the leader of last night's team happens to be reading this(you know who you are), I hope you are okay. Slamming your face or fists on the keyboard must have hurt.

Feel better sweetie!

Love ya!

-Totally Fabulous

I could never openly condone griefing.

I am not sure where people like that come from, but *we* have run into morons like that from time to time.

"Do you have myspace?"
"yes"
"Can I have it?"
"no"
"Why?"
"I am married"
"I just want to look..."
"no thanks"
"your a DUDE"
"YOUR AN I D I O T"
"why?"

I was referring to deliberately rolling flamboyant/stereotype characters and tracking down the tool team leader to ask for invites.

My wife and I play together too.

It is funny how our ideas for alt duos will arise in the strangest places and conversations. We often create character duos- couples, brothers, sisters, best friends, etc. They're not necessarily paired in name or appearance, but the character's story would be incomplete without the other. We never really pay much attention to the gender- both of us have male and female alts.

That can lead to some moments similar to what you mention. Of all my female alts, it happens most to Russian Blue for some reason I can't quite fathom. Some guys just can't comprehend that a guy would play a feral catgirl wearing nothing but a scarf.

Usually starts with some compliment on the look, then an invitation to team / supergroup / or "meet up sometime." I say I'm waiting to team for someone/ usually team with someone, etc. They press, "your boyfriend?" so I finally try to dash their hopes: "My wife."

I kid you not: I've had a few people swear that they KNEW I really was a girl and just using lines like that so guys won't bother me... or that I really was playing with my boyfriend/husband but he got on my character specifically to scare off the competition, etc.

Hope springs eternal?

We were talking about this last night in an AE team. I had my DB/WP scrapper Brooklyn Bridge out to play. Brooklyn Bridge is a nearly 8-foot fellow whose taste in costumes runs towards voluminous gothic clothes, cloaks, or heavy armour. Although he does have one cute leather outfit Myself and my teammates were talking about how some guys just can't comprehend that yes, women play this game. And yes, women sometimes make male characters and enjoy playing them.

Fortunately I've never had to deal with raging homophobe boys like the OP- I would have petitioned that team leader for his foul behavior right away. I've got gay friends and I don't put up with that cr*p at all.
And just for the record, I'm not a snitch who plays with one finger always hovering over the "petition" button. It takes something godawful for me to launch a complaint- harrassment, abusive behavior, griefing, or the like. Racist, homophobic, or hate speech are definately on the list.

How do I never run into these people? I play on Virtue, always play female characters, do a lot of PUGs, and have never gotten people asking for HAWT PIX or Facebook or screaming that I must be a guy.

My wife and I play together as well. She only plays female characters, and always with a skimpy outfit and the chest slider as far right as it will go. I create characters on concept and am comfortable enough with myself to have characters of both genders. Invariably I will get a comment on my female characters. I don't touch the chest slider and most of them are covered much more that what my wife makes. Still I will get the sexy comment from someone and I always respond with a thank you and let them know that my wife thinks so too.

The responses range from a laugh from the other person to outright horror that I would play a character gender that wasn't my own. And like to OP, we often talk in team chat more than we talk out loud even though we are no more than five feet from each other.

I just make note of those that make an issue of it and then don't bother playing with them again.

@Reddi:

That guy should have been petitioned and reported. Nuff said.

I am a guy, and I mostly play female toons for a very important reason: Though I play on the two busiest servers (Virtue and Freedom), I very rarely get asked to join a team. So I solo. It takes me about 8-9 months to solo a toon to L50. If I'm gonna look at the backside of a toon for that long, I'd much rather look at a female's posterior.

If that makes me a sexist pig, then: OINK!

COV closed beta, I created a character, trying out the different costume pieces. Ended up with a female covered in fur with the animal head. Really wide body, boob slider smallest possible. I am leveling up after the tutorial and someone says, "Hey, sexy outfit." He then asked if I wanted to team and have some fun together. I told him I was a guy, but he was still interested in "having fun." Logged off, never got that character to level 3.

Or, if you have the science booster pack you can change into an ugly dude whenever guys hit on you and say you have a package for them.

I can't say I've ever had an experience like this on here. Though it amuses me how many people don't understand that 1) girls play video games 2) they don't have to prove it to you 3) they're not interested in you outside of whatever game mechanics they joined you for (i.e. PUG) and 4) they are probably already spoken for to further reinforce #3.

That being said, the people like referenced in this thread amuse the hell out of me when I get to see their antics. Even if it also saddens me that they're going to inevitably scare off some of the people that are 'testing the waters' of gaming and don't want to be associated with that kind of stuff.

Oh, and MunkiLord, you almost ruined my keyboard with that comment! Jerk :P

If only there was this emote in the game, it's the perfect response.

I had an amusing encounter at the Black Market in Cap. About 1 in 10 of my characters are female and I was playing one of them. I had decided to use some of the magic costume items and the character is a tall redhead with the witch leather outfit and a full cape with the high collar.

So, some guy comes over and stands in front of me, moves off to the side a bit, walks around me. Then he sends a tell:
Him: nice outfit.
Me: Thanks. I just got the magic pack so I wanted to try the costume parts.
Him: It shows a lot of skin.
Me: Actually this version has the lace panels - there's another version that shows even more.
Him: Mind if I check out your back?
Me: As much as you can see. The cape is pretty much in the way.
Him: Do you have a costume without a cape.
Me: No, this is my only one with the magic costume parts.

Then I take my recipes and go over to the University to craft some stuff. I come back a few minutes later to get some more stuff and I see the same guy standing next to a different female toon. He is doing the same walk-around inspection. I send her a tell:
Me: Is he telling you how hot you look?
Her: LOL Yes! What a bozo!

So I walk over to him and start chaining the smack and slap emotes while berating him on local for chasing other women. Two OTHER female toons pipe up in local that he was hitting on them too. He leaves the area. I mention on local that I hadn't had the heart to tell him I was a male player. Half the crowd by the Market respond with "ROFL" or "LOL".

Heheheh

This game actually has made me make MORE female toons (I'm a grrl) though in tabletop games I tend to rp males because they're way easier and fun to stereotype.

I do get 'the stare' sometimes, which I find oddly flattering until it goes too far like some of the conversations above.

But I've also had a male toon, MA/SR scrapper, who is HAWT. Leather pants, fingerless gloves, nothing more, long hair, the muscular chest option.

I had been fiddling around with Council and Outcasts in Steel Canyon when I see this higher level female toon standing there nearby, not interfering but not saying anything.

I asked them, "checkin him out?" And she was all YES, we laughed. I admitted that I made the toon because I wanted to see him in action. He was indeed quite smexy. I love this game.

Generally though when someone "learns I'm a girl" all that really needs to be said by me is "you should wish me a happy birthday! Last monday I turned 42!!"

They usually stop when they realize I'm older than their parents...

My wife and I openly refer to ourselves as such on Virtue and the only thing we ever get is "I wish my husband/wife would play with me!" What's awesome is that more often than not I am playing a female character and she's playing some macho looking dude. Virtue is clearly the classy server :monocle:

Same here, even on the rare occasions I've gone into Pocket D at night I've never had this issue come up.

Only once ever in 5 years has anyone even asked.
